Huh?

Grip is a preference, regardless of pulling style. Most people pull mixed when at or near max. I pull mixed because, well, it’s easier for me. You can, however, pull double overhand or hook with either DLing style.

Are you squatting in Doc Martins? Very cool if so.
No, those are Pendlay Oly lifting shoes. I am a Doc Marten kind of girl, though.

Is that your “sweet spot” where your legs are on squat?
Do you mean my stance? Yes, that’s my normal stance. Wide.

Snap - I suppose what I meant was that you’ve struck me as a traditionalist when it comes to the big lifts so to see the bodybuilder-esque work in here was a bit surprising.
You’re right. I tend to just squat, bench, and DL and do a wee bit of accessory. That’s really what I’m drawn to. But I’m getting no results with benching. So it’s time to try something new.
JoeGood wrote:
Is there a meet or a goal you are shooting for?
Nope. Kind of odd for me. No meet in the future. I’m a bit aimless in terms of goals these days. But I’m okay with it. I’m just focusing on getting better. And that’s easily measurable.

Then we are both focusing on getting better. I also have no set goal for my lifting at the moment, other than to get rid of my knee cave. Just doing the main lifts better is more than enough for me.

Please do a food post. I am very interested to hear more about the nutritional changes you are making.

P.S. You are looking oh so fine in those videos.

good stuff as always. and I love me my doc martens, think I still have like 7 pair

Great videos…modified stance pulls feel so awkward. Good job getting it done!

Both of the MD physios I went to about my longstanding strain were against moves such as sumos because they would be too much stress on the hamstring. Same with RDL, SLDL and good mornings. Still, the last one was against squats and deads on the same day, so maybe the fact I am doing this with so far no ill effect bodes well for future health.

Yes, I had thought sumos were more glute and hamstring and less quadricep than regular DL, and had thought people sumoed less.

I agree with Fish on the epic socks! They rock! I, too, am curious about your food changes, the meals you cook, and shots of the meals. Don’t leave your fans hanging.

I knew I liked you. Docs are awesome.

Ahh, diet talk bores me. Plus, I signed a nondisclosure agreement. So I will honor that. I will say that I feel like I eat all the time. It’s hard to get it all in. Beef, pork, chicken, eggs, cheese. All in one day. Sugar and processed carbs are out of my diet. I feel great.

Had a good training session. Week two with the new upper body programming. And all is well.

Flat bench
Wide-grip flat bench with slow eccentric
Low incline DB bench
T-bar row
Lying skulls
DB row
French press
Hammer curls

I’m doing much better staying tight in the bench and driving with my legs. I have some success with gripping the bench with my inner thighs/knees to anchor my ass down.

Gotcha.

Sugar and processed carbs are pretty nonexistent in my world too. Lean protein and veggies and fruit are big. Cheese is my favorite food in life, but I try to limit it because its easy for me to go hog-wild.

Next time I bench (whenever that is) I will try the inner-thigh gripping idea. That sounds promising.

i’ve been working with a diet girl and have the same thoughts. The first couple days I had nightmares about food.

glad all of your new changes are going so well!

SNAP WE HAVE THE SAME SOCKS.

Have you done much work with mp’s? I hate them slightly less then benching, actually far less but I’ve never given them much time. I wonder if that might help us(me) bench burnouts.

Diet talk/listing out stuff bores me as well…I don’t enjoy reliving my meals by journaling them. makes me sad that they are over and in my belly already.

I have not been able to successfully MP since I had my shoulder repaired. Overhead shoulder pressing strength has never returned. I’m working on little DBs right now.

Not a lot of time to train today.

RDL
8/45
5/95

Conventional DL
5/115
3/10/145

Squat
5/45
5/75
4/8/95

IPF Masters World Bench in town starting tomorrow. Guess where I’m going to be?

@ James

I would not call what Ksnap is doing is “bodybuilding” more like weak point training.

FWIW if I was training her: We would do a basic Powerlifting Template 4 days Plus some extra work.

Monday : Squat. Then weak point training and then sprints
Tuesday: Kettlebell class --done light-- ( this will help rehab shoulder and build power)
Wed: Bench. Weakpoint training. Then bootcamp class later in the day.
Thursday: Active rest.
Friday: Deadlift. Weakpoint training and jumps
Saturday: High voulume upper body day.
Sunday: Rest

Abs would be done (with weight) on lower body days.
Mobility work/stretching done everyday.

This would be periodized with respects in that I would lay out a 1 year Macrocycle with 2 peaks for competitions and slowly ramp up her work capacity.

Rick

oh geez! I am such a jerk…I forgot about your shoulder for the mp’s !! I totally forgot :{

…but really its hard to tell you’ve had injuries–at least from how hard you train and keep going for it. I know you of course know and live the differences but, you really are incredible Snap!!

Really impressive how you just keep going, no matter what problems come along.

Cavalier – that is true of you as well. You and ksnap have really begun to show that skill.

Remember when that wasn’t so true? Amazing how much iron can heal.

Begun to show? Geez, I’ve only been at this a measly 30 years or so. But thanks for the compliment. And it does apply to Snap.

I remember admitting to my aunt (my gorgeous, show-stopping 69-year-old aunt) that I was a bit afraid of growing older and all that it entailed. She looked at me incredulously and responded: “But there’s only one other alternative. And it’s far worse.” It’s the same for me with powerlifting. The idea of not powerlifting is far worse than having to work around obstacles.

I’m starting new programming this week for squat and DL. Again, I’ve given up control of my programming for these lifts. I’m a bit nervous about ceding control, but I need to bust through some plateaus and get out of my training ruts. And I trust the coach, which is hugely important. If you look around the gym at the regular gym-goers, they do almost the exact same thing every time. I’m guilty as charged. So I’ll be doing a lot of new things that get me out of my comfort zone, like front squats, rack pulls, and single-leg accessory work. I start tomorrow.

Yesterday:

Band pullaparts
Lying L cuff stuff
Wide-grip flat bench
DB flat bench
Arnolds
Front raise
Lateral raise
Reverse flye
DB row
Rolling DB tris
Lat pulldown
Hammer curl

Trying to go up a bit in weight or add another rep or two each week.

Been attending IFP Masters Bench Worlds off and on the last few days. And my overriding takeaway is that these lifters have their setup and form so dialed in. The arch, the leg drive, the tightness and precision that is inherent in every component of the lift. Really impressive.

Ahhhh, more changes. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do.
