Swim Your Own Race

Thanks for the support.

Today was one of those rare days where everything felt easy. Super light.

Squats in gear. Worked up to singles at 180, 195, 210. Walkout at 225.

Funny thing, though. They’re high or, at best, questionable. Don’t think I’ve ever been in this boat before.

I’d say bang on parallel.

Glad you seem to have your mojo back.

How’s your coach doing? Is he still competing?

I’m with Brett, great work, very nice form.

Looking good.

It’s close but I would say good as well. Plus how are they going to red light you with that form? Nice work.

I’ve sorted out my missing plug ins - yay!

Yes, squats look good, as always. I love those days where the training seems to pay off.

I’d give it to you. It’s close so it depends on who’s in the chair on the day.

Nice job. It looked good to me.

Yup. Nationals are just around the corner for him.

Totally true. If I fly you out, will you take the chair?

Thanks for all the feedback on my squats. I’m loving squatting again. Just gotta dip another inch or so for safety’s sake. Never been red-lighted on depth. And don’t wanna start now.

My meet is two weeks away. I can honestly say that it’s going to be a total crap shoot. I am trying a new shirt. And haven’t really spent any time bringing the bar to the chest with commands and all. Plus, my DL has gone down the tubes. But you can never underestimate the power of adrenaline on the DL portion of a meet. So I’m holding out a wee bit of hope.

I’ll post my meet lifts. If I do okay, that is.

A no pressure meet? Sounds like a plan to me!1 I hope you have fun and get that sparkle I know competing offers you!

And good luck!!

When’s the meet again?

That 210 looked pretty good to me. 225 is right around the corner. Look out competition, you’re going to do great.

March 23.

So I’m a bit nervous about this meet. Thinking I might actually bomb out. Which has never happened in nine meets. Yesterday I couldn’t press anything. Either I couldn’t touch the bar to the shirt or couldn’t press it out. Plus, I haven’t remedied the ass-lift problem. And I’ve been consistently squatting high or parallel at best. Our refs are super strict here in the Denver area so close won’t usually cut it in the squat.

60 lifters. Unless there’s a small or new female, I’ll probably be first up. Which is A-okay with me.

Can you open lighter or get a looser shirt? Bombing sucks big time.

Our nationals are next week and I’m not feeling it at all. I think I’m going to drop my squat opener from 305 to 295 (137.5 to 135.0) In addition, I’ve developed a nerve problem in my right elbow so when I’m wearing a shirt it’s very painful. I’ve tried pulling up one sleeve a bit and pulling down through the pain. I’ve done my opener so I’ll stick with that (75kg) but I’m not sure if I’ll do any better.

It’s a good thing uneven lock out is okay now because my right arm shoots up fast from the pain and the left follows slowly. I checked out who’s reffing our group and one is an infamous red-light ref that isn’t allowed to ref at an international level anymore because he’s such a cock.

Sorry to cry on your thread but I thought you might like some company  I have a feeling you’ll do just fine.

“Internationally banned for being such a cock” isn’t something you want on your resume, at least in most cases.

Good luck at both your meets, I suspect both of you will do great as usual.

I’m always glad to see you drop by, O. What day are you competing?

I think I know the ref you’re referring to.

I may open with my looser shirt and then try to switch shirts mid-flight. Does that sound crazy? Anyone done it? Kind of depends on the number in the flight and if I have enough time.

I have an even lockout too. My good shoulder pushes the bulk of the weight and therefore lags. What is up with the elbow? Does the pain run down into your hand? Could it be a pinched nerve in your shoulder, like the ulnar nerve? Or is it more like epicondilitis (tennis elbow)? Does it affect your grip on DL?

The pain is on the outside of the elbow right above the joint and only hurts when pressed or compressed. Benching raw doesn’t affect it but pull a shirt on and it’s a mess. Because I don’t bench and deadlift on the same day in training I don’t know if it will affect my grip. This only appeared on the last few weeks. I was just thinking about this last night and really hope it doesn’t.

I’m competing on Thursday and lifting at 1pm. Frank is lifting Friday.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for all of us

If I fly her out will you guys hug? Maybe spot each other on some bent rows? Let me know and I’ll pass the hat to collect the airfare!

I missed this one. I’m a bit strict myself but not a total cock about it. I once had to red light a team mate for ramping a deadlift and I thought her mother was going to punch me in the face. It’s a good thing I’m fast

You’re always so, so generous.

Is it the weight? Or do you have a different groove/technique for raw/geared?

I believe your meet is livestreamed. So I can have it playing in the background at work. I will cheer for you, O.
