SUVs Vs Minivans

Okay, since I’m selling my truck and leaving the state, I will be in the market for another vehicle.

Personally, I don’t see a problem with a full-size car, but my wife isn’t having it, and I will most likely be using her Nissan Sentra the most, and using the “family vehicle” for when I need to haul anything.

From what I’ve heard, minivans can hold as much as an SUV, and drives better (lower to the ground), and is usually better on gas.

SUV’s look cooler, IMHO, and well, if you ever want to go off-road, it would probably be better than a minivan, but honestly, I probably won’t be off-roading (as much as I would like to say I will).

What do you like better, and why?

If you are going to buy something, but a Japanese crossover or minivan. They have better reliability and gas mileage. They also hold resale value better.

Whatever you do, DON’T buy a Buick Rendezvous…

So far my wife is leaning a lot more towards minivans.

Right now she’s comparing the Chrysler Town & Country and the Nissan Quest.

I still think it would be interesting to see the debate between them all.

Mazda CX-9 and Subaru B9 Tribeca are good choices, 7 passengers, all wheel drive, relatively good handling, better off-road than minivans and fun engine.

LOL… we rented these in hawaii for two weeks, and my mom HATED it. I did, too, for what its worth.

Honestly, I think the subarus are awesome. Minivans suck.

SUV = more tire
SUV = tranfer case and maintenance
SUV = front differnetail & driveshaft with maintenance
More components = more weight
More weight = Bigger breaks and Engine
bigger breaks engine and tires = worse handling
bigger breaks engine and tires = worse gas mileage

… get the hint?

What have American’s been getting for their SUV fondness? They’ve kept up with the Jones’.

Get a Toyota Mini-van. They are some of the best vehicles on the road.

Minivans are better for ~ 95% of the people on the road.

In addition to the stuff you have listed I believe they are generally safer too.

A minivan just says, “I’ve given up.”

Think about it.

Mini Vans are much more funtional, more cargo area, better mileage and less rollover prone. My wife had a towne and country, and it was a very good vehicle.

She traded it in because she didn’t want to turn forty and still be driving a mini van.

Get a minivan if your priority is not looking cool.

Get an SUV if your priority is looking cool.

The minivan will be cheaper to drive, cheaper to maintain, and hold resale value better.

The SUV will be more expensive to drive, more expensive to maintain, and hold resale value worse.

Not to mention, the SUV might break down on you, whereas a minivan has a lower chance of this occuring.

A minivan says “I do not need my vehicle to be a penis extender.”

Want to bring TC into this debate? He’ll settle this one.

HAHA, YES!

I fukin’ hate Minivans. I hate them. I really, really hate them.

I will never ever, ever, ever own one. I would rather own an old ass station wagon.

I know that everyone says they are so practical and blah, blah, blah. I just hate them. I don’t know why either. I don’t have a good reason or even a rational argument as to why I hate them.

I just hate them.

The good old family truckster.

Would your wife be willing to compromise and get a station wagon? If so, a Subaru WRX station wagon would be a good alternative. If not, I’m partial to the Honda Odyssey myself.

I prefer to call it “Honkey Lips.” haha

Check out a Ford Freestyle. They are awesome and give you the best of both SUV’s and Minivans. We have twin girls, and my wife loves it for everything she does. We tested countless SUV’s/Minis/Crossovers, and nothing compared to the Freestyle.

Out of the total of all SUV owners in the US just how many of those people really actually go off-roading? Hell, how many of SUV’s being made right now are actually able to go off-roading?

Then again I’m all about practical and saving money for other things (i.e Flame Out, ZMA, protein, kid’s college funds…you know that kind of stuff).

Of course you never know what’s available with all the options these days!

We have a Toyota and it is great. I hated the older minivans but I think a lot of the stigma relates to the original look of the early models.

I’ll second that. Either the Mazda CX-9 or the Mazda5. Both have a lot of pep and they’re built like god damn tanks. My mom’s 1990 Mazda MPV is still going strong at 230,000+ miles. (My younger brother drives it at college.)
