So my buddy is getting married in the Dominican Republic in 3 weeks. And initially I just figured I’d go down there and go full bore etc. and party hard…but now as I get closer to the date…I don’t want to…I don’t want to waste all the hard work I’ve put in the last 4 months training to look good for this trip.
Although, I am still not totally happy with how I look and I’ve determined that this trip is a short term goal and that my long term goal is to hit single percent body fat by end of summer. I am not sure if this is realistic or not but I figured set the bar high and get to work.
I know the basics with bringing down protein bars, protein powders, Flameout, and that stuff. Can anyone provide any suggestions on how to eat decently clean with resort food or is it a lost cause?
one suggestion would be to fill up at every meal on as much fruit and vegetetables as possible. often times tropical locations have some nice fruit offerings. load up on low calorie stuff and maybe you will be too full to take on the heavier items. Obviously booze is an enemy, lots of empty calories, and when you get banged up you tend to down garbage food.
To be honest I was really thinking hard about not drinking…that’s the whole not wasting all the hard work I’ve done deal. Course then some of you might argue that not drinking at an all inclusive is a waste…but I didn’t really have a choice as they type of trip cause it was for a wedding.
1 week isn’t going to destroy everything you’ve worked for. After all, you said all your work the last 4 months was to look good for this vacation, right? For fucks sake, just have some fun.
The times i’ve been to all inclusive hotels, you CAN eat healthy or sorta at least. They all provide meat, eggs, fish, veggies, and fruit. That said if you have access to a gym, enjoy yourself somewhat if you worked that hard to enjoy THIS vacation (life is short etc)
if its a higher end resort there will probably be plenty of furits and veggies and few roasted/grilled meat options. as far as drinking goes, just stay away from a lot of the mixed tropical drinks which are heavy on the sugars and carbs. stick to a beer or to. otherwise just enjoy yourself.
If it’s anything like the resort I went to in Punta Cana, there’s PLENTY of healthy food available in all the restaurants - grilled meats and fish, eggs, veggies and fruits. Just stick to the healthy stuff and you should be fine. As far as booze - have a few if you want, but moderation in drinking will help you make better food choices. The more you drink, the better pizza sounds
Seriously, just have fun, take it as your week off. Eat the food, it’s USUALLY good. The buffets arn’t really anything special so you get tired of them but the restaurants in the hotel are what get you.
I usually gain 5-8 pounds while on vacation, and most of the time it’s booze weight and within 2 weeks its gone. Don’t kill yourself over it, just fucking eat and enjoy yourself.
P.S.
If you seriously bring all those supps with you on vacation, that’s pretty bad, even if you are extremely serious with your training.
Take the week off. Enjoy yourself. You’ll come back motivated to get back on track.
Seriously how much fat would you put on? If you ate 1000 calories extra a day above youre maintenance level you’ll only put on two pounds! Gone in two weeks.
I’m in favor of just enjoying yourself as well. 1 week isn’t going to set you back that much. Might even help if you have been training extremely hard and dieting.
Cool thanks for the input everyone. I was a little worried cause when I was in mexico the meals were usually like burger and fries, and then food in rich cream sauces which weren’t all that great.
But in hind sight you are right…it is only one week and it won’t set me back that much and it’ll be a nice break before i settle in on achieving my next goal.

Well I have to do some traveling for work so it’s kind of habit to avoid all the crappy airport food. Besides why break when you don’t have to…at least that’s how I think about it.
