Surge Timing Question!!

Hey everyone, long time reader, first time poster. This is a newbie question but it’s about Surge:

I am doing Starting Strength with a friend, and he wants to do these accessory exercises along with the workout. He got the extra stuff from the Something Awful forums. I hear they are real bodybuilding experts over there.

My question is about the timing of the surge Example:

Squats 3x5
Bench 3x5
Deadlift 1x5
Dips 3xFail
<--------------Full serving of Surge
Decline weighted situps 3x5
weighted hyperextentions 3x8

As you can see, I have been taking a full serving of Surge after the heavy lifting, and then doing the other things too. Is there a reason why I shouldn’t do this? Should I just wait? By the time we finish the rest of the workout it’s already been an hour and a half since we entered the gym, and I’m afraid that it’s gonna be too late for the Surge at that point.

Any problem with a full serving of Surge 3/4ths into a workout and then a big meal an hour or two later?

No problem at all, but it might be even better to begin sipping your Surge early in the workout.

Experiment with both and see which works best for you.

I forgot to mention that I am drinking a preworkout beverage of some whey isolate (20 grams or so) about 30 mins pre workout.

You can certainly try adding it in during your workout, but I really don’t think it’s going to have an effect on results/recovery. You should be covered so long as you ingest some form of protein/carbs before and after you lift.

My recommendation would be sip the Surge during your workout start say about 20 - 30 minutes in but only drink half of it over the workout (or have 2 separate sports bottles) and drink the other half at the end.

that way your getting energy and protein throughout and a larger dose to finish.

So the consensus is that it’s probably okay to do some sit ups and hyper extensions after some Surge, though I could maybe break it into two servings with no detriment?
