Just joined this site afer lurking for a few weeks. A lot of great information. I just order some products and have some questions.
Is Surge really all that much better than a regular whey protein for post-workout? Got the raspberry and rootbeer. Hope they taste good. Do they mix with water OK?
Also got Metabolic Drive. Is this good for pre-workout? It kind of sounds like more of a nighttime supplement.
Finally, I’ve been eating a cup of oatmeal before bed. I’ve read that carbs should be avoided as they can cause sleeping problems. Any thoughts and would the Metabolic Drive be a better choice. Also eating a cup of cottage cheese at the same time.

Surge IMO is the best post workout recovery drink you can get. So, yes it is better then a regular whey shake for recovery. Water is what it should be mixed in.
Metabolic Drive should be used to add extra quality protein into your diet whether you use it pre workout, breakfast, mid day. Another words what works for you.
If you are looking to maximize calories and it doesn’t bother your sleep use the oatmeal. If you are looking to minimize calories and or fat gain nix it.
Depending on your goals, Surge is usually better PWO than a whey only shake. The carbs will help replenish used glycogen and shuttle the amino acids from the protein into your muscle cells. I’ve never tasted those flavors, but the most common fav. flavor seems to be chocolate. You are supposed to mix Surge in water, so yes its fine that way.
Metabolic Drive is better used throughout the day (especially at night), except peri-workout. I’ve actually heard and feel that eating carbs before bed will help you sleep, but is not a smart choice for body composition reasons. You’re no longer expending energy or using glycogen, so added carbs will be stored as fat. Cottage cheese, or Metabolic Drive here would be a great substitution.
All of the above answers seem to be right… definitely go with the Metabolic Drive/cottage cheese before bed instead of the oatmeal if you are cutting.
Anyway, i’m on a limited budget and contemplating buying either Grow! Whey or Metabolic Drive. If I have cottage cheese before bed, should I just go with the Grow! Whey? Would eating some cottage cheese and a serving of Grow! Whey be as good as a serving of Metabolic Drive?
I also feel you are getting a lot more for your money with the Grow! Whey and I can use some as I wake up, post-workout and before bed. I feel like the Metabolic Drive is best left for before bed because of the casein. What do you guys think?

I prefer Metabolic Drive over Grow! Whey, except for cooking, but if I was cash poor I’d go with Grow! Whey over other products.

Grow! Whey and cottage cheese are both basically the same (cottage cheese= milk protein = whey), and are absorbed faster compared to the caseins in Metabolic Drive, so i like them peri workout as opposed to Metabolic Drive (i actually use BSN’s Lean Dessert Protein which is a very similar product), but both are very good for before bed IMO

Incorrect, cottage cheese is primarily casein as is milk. Grow! Whey is 100% whey. So yes, cottage cheese is similar to milk but these are different than Grow! Whey. And cottage cheese and milk probably have a higher casein % then Metabolic Drive does, since its a blend.
If you are 10% bodyfat or above, whey only after training (plus, ideally, glycine, glutamine and phosphatidyl serine).
If you are under 10%, whey plus 1g of carbs per pound of bodyweight
HOWEVER, to put this in context, if you are someone who is going to eat carbs anyway, then getting them postworkout is the best time even if you are 10% or above.

The recommendations are way too carb phobic for most people.

And it makes no sense. If you’re 190lbs:
@10% bf you’d have 190g carbs after @12% you’d have 0g carbs after
There’s nowhere near enough differece in the bodyfat to justify this difference…I think the reccomendations are on the bottle of Surge for a reason…not to say you have to follow them exactly but you get the point.

Yah bro your a newbie on here so dont give advice if you dont know what your talking about! As pointed out above cottage cheese is a casein protein primarily with a very slow digestion rate! and BSN lean dessert isnt worth $5 its high it carbs relativly speeking and its got carp proteins in it you wan whey isolate first of instead of concentrate and your gona want micellar Cassein as apoosed to a calcium cascenate which is what in bsn syntha 6 and lean desert!..
And as far as this carb debate post workout id like to know who came up with that 10% body fat gets carbs while 11 doesnt idea lol nice one!
Yeah i’m gonna go with the Grow! Whey which I can use at several points of the day and stick to some cottage cheese / natty PB / cup of calorie countdown milk for my pre-bed meal. If anything, I can use my zero carb Isopure for a pre bed shake with all that stuff mixed in … minus the cottage cheese eeww =]
