Supplements That You Would Never Go Without

Yes exactly. But even creatine don’t work for all individuals. It has been prove that there are creatine non-responders, I am one of them. For most people, I agree it would be a good supplement.

Yeah, I’m glad that tribulus helps you. From research I did (googling) part of people say it disrupts their sleep and part is saying it’s beneficial.

Addition to that: I googled on bananas too.
They contain tryptophan which helps you sleep.
In addition to that there are also high doses of potassium and magnesium - and both are known muscle relaxers.
Study also confirmed that milk is beneficial for sleep too, and milk and banana work in nice synergy and boost effects of eachother.
I top that with that weird honey too so it really puts me to sleep fast.

I usually don’t have sleep issues but I sometimes use some stuff to put me off when I’m stressed or anxious and can’t fall asleep because of that.

I used some banana/cinnamon stuff before but this one works better I figured.

If I could find a supplement that could reliably help me with falling asleep (and preferably staying asleep for a suitable amount of time) I’d put that at the absolute top of my list. I’ve always struggled with my sleep if I have to adhere to the idea of a 24 hour day. I’ve found that Z12 helps with the quality of sleep I’m getting, but I have to take a double dose for it to be noticeable.

I tried passionflower tea Tip: How to Naturally Control Anxiety worked once and then afterwards it seems comparatively inert.

Try magnesium citrate for helping with sleep. I can’t tell if it’s placebo or what, but I swear that MC has made my sleep more restful

Where do you live? Medical (or recreational) marijuana is the absolute best for sound sleep and walking up refreshed. It’s a very healing plant that works wonders without the side effects of pharmaceuticals.

Sleep problems suck.
I was once super anxious and my sis gave me valeriana pills to help me fall asleep faster - and then I couldn’t sleep at all…

Usually my anxiety goes away on it’s own in 1-2hrs period if I’m just lying still in my bed and…

Not available in my country yet although we may swing around as long as Canada and the US doesn’t swing around and un-legalise it.

I’ve smoked marijuana in Amsterdam but not a strain for sleeping in particular, I’m assuming there would be one that helps with sleep but doesn’t also cause the munchies? Goddamn I had so many waffles…

But I noticed the same phenomena that I described earlier, I had to smoke so much more than my friends who are about the same size as me. After two days we started rolling two joints, one for them to share and one for me to go at alone. Did go for edibles on my last day there though and that hit me more.

Also, I’m skeptic that breathing in anything other than air into your lungs might not be doing them any favours.

I’ve had prescription anti-anxiety drugs but they don’t provide a restful sleep so they are of no use. Slept 8h tonight though! Yay!

Fish Oil helps offset, a little, the enormous amount of Omega 6 fatty acids we’re all now being treated to because the animals we eat are rarely being fed their natural diet. Instead, they’re being fed grain which alters their natural Omega profile from Omega 3 rich to Omega 6 rich. Better still is to eat animals fed a natural diet (ie, pasture raised, grass-fed and grass-finished beef and forest-raised pork, etc) in combo with Fish Oil supp.

As for sleep, that’s been my biggest issue for a loooong time. My doc started me on a little cocktail… Extended release Melatonin, 10mg (5mg immediate release, 5mg later). 1-3 of them depending on how I’m doing. She recommended the Natrol Advanced Sleep brand. I’ve NEVER had a problem falling asleep but waking up 4 hours later was an issue and that’s why I like the extended release formulation.
Additionally, PS-150. That’s phosphatidylserine 150mg. It’s a sunflower extract and works in concert with Omega 3’s to build healthy cell membranes. Among it’s other functions, it can lower cortisol levels (great for those who work out intensely) and that can help regulate sleep as wacky cortisol can be what causes people (me) to wake up and not be able to go back to sleep.
Those plus the usual recommendations: no electronic devices for an hour before bed, etc…
I’m now just taking 1 of the melatonin and that’s it. Most days I’m sleeping for 7-8 hours, up from 4-6.

I do about 1600 mg of it. Helps me relax but my sleep quality is still awful.

I stack a scoop and a half of Redcon1 Fade Out, 15 mg Melatonin, 1600 mg Mag Citrate, 3 otc pills and 1600 mg of 5 HTP… sleep still sucks.

Wow, that is quite a stack. Fade out has Phenibut in it so it’s just not effective every night. I know it sucks to hear but only use it 3 or 4 times a week or it loses it effect… I have no idea why I am sleeping good the last few weeks because I have the most horrendous Insomnia usually. I mean I will stare at the ceiling all night, I think it’s because I just exhaust myself so much. Might be time to get an Rx medication? No sleep is the worst

Yeah, but you can get tablets or edibles of CBD, and even indica or sativa. I use small amounts (you can easily microdose), and I don’t smoke it either. The tablets are like edibles, and take ~1.5-2h to kick in, so you just take one around 8 or 9 pm, and you won’t get munchies because you’ll be laying in bed when it kicks in.

Perhaps it’s often overstated, but there are certainly anti-inflammatory properties and stress reducing properties, which has helped tremendously with recovery and rest. At least at the levels I have used it, there are no negative side effects. Certainly at consistently high doses, or with constant use/abuse, I would imagine there may be negative consequences.

My mind never stops racing no matter how exhausted I am. Lack of sleep is absolutely awful. Worse than having the clap…again.

150mg of 5-htp before bed for a few weeks always sorts this out for me.

I tried finding it in the supplement stores I frequent but no joy. Does it go under any other name?

Edit: nevermind, apparently you need a prescription for it in my country.

I’ve only ever seen as 5-htp. I get mine online, a few of the mainstream supplement comoanies here stock it, multiple brands on a well known online marketplace.

I see, well, I don’t know if you saw my edit but in my country it requires a prescription and as such bringing it in online from abroad is a crime.

Oh damn sorry buddy didn’t realise you were in a difficult country.

No worries mate!

There are some very effective non-supplement tactics you should try:

  1. meditation. As little as 10 minutes can make a huge difference in quieting the mind. You can try a guided meditation (from an app, website), read a book on the topic, or find a local group. Truly life changing if you give it a sustained effort.
  2. turn off electronics, bright lights later in the evening. Try reading with a reading light before bed.
  3. carbs. I sleep much better having carbs in the evening, and many others do as well.
  4. make a list. If you are stressed about what you have to do, make a list before bed and you’ll feel much better about tackling it.
  5. take a walk in the evening (but don’t do vein-popping workouts late in the day). Many (myself included) have trouble sleeping if doing intense activities late in the day).
