Supplements That You Would Never Go Without

I take it in the am, because if I take it to late in the PM i can’t seem to sleep. Only happened once but not worth risking poor sleep imo.

And why do you take it? Some research seems to suggest that if you are eating a normal diet it wouldn’t be necessary: Tip: The T-Boosting, Tendon-Healing Vitamin

That’s why its in my nice to have, not must have. Same with 5-htp. I don’t take them year-round, only when I feel I need them. I gain weight very easily and normally spend a fair few months each year in a strict deficit, thats when i would take it. 5-htp I take for a few weeks whenever my sleep starts to feel a bit shitty.

Is this to help with mood or is there another reason you take it?

1 - Fish oil
2 - Vitamin D3
3 - Creatine
4 - ZMA
5 - Tribulus.

As a Nurse, I suffered of poor sleep and it was one of the worst periods of my life. 5-htp never did anything for me, ZMA a little better. But the combinatin ZMA+Tribulus changed everything! Long, deep sleeps and I fall asleep easily. I don’t know if tribulus really do something for my testosterone, but for me the most important thing is that it helps me sleep better.

No just gives me lovely deep sleep

Are there any studies confirming that tribulus improves sleep?

My best bet for sleep is warm milk wih some honey that’s a bit bitter because it’s made from plant that I don’t know to name on English and eating a banana.
I eat teaspoon of honey on daily anyways. My uncle has bees so I’m getting 100% organic honey that even still has small bits of wax in it… light one is nice to raise my energy a bit. And brown one makes you sleepy.

I noticed lots of you guys are taking fish oil.

Any benefits from it?
And what are your reasons for taking it? Since it has more than just one purpose…

To blunt my insulin response when having carbs while on a diet and to make up for a diet that is low in seafood

I have to admit I have fallen victim to the supplement industry when I was younger, you can’t help but look at all the fancy containers and creative names for them all (like a pre-workout called meth lab!). With all these different pro-hormones, test boosters, recovery drinks etc it can be very seductive but I agree with the consensus here:

Highly pure Fish oil+ $10-$15 a month
Quality Multi ( I use one that includes everything under the sun plus greens) =$20 a month for 90 tabs I take 2 a day
Creatine (when bulking only) $20 a month
Whey Protein $25 a month
I can afford this but imagine if I had pre-workout, test boosters, BCAA’s, recovery drinks, etc and you can see where this is going $$$$$$$$.
If I were a pro bodybuilder I would take everything of course, but i’m not so I will keep it affordable and sustainable. Besides, what really kills me is the cost of my food which I will get into in another post.

lol, yeah @anon18228683 that is true. Or have my own line of supplements?? The funny thing is these young guys will buy x supplements because they are endorsed by so and so even though the ingredients are identical.

$20 a month! What are you taking? Definitely not monohydrate.

Fair enough. I took it once when dieting for the mood boosting effects to try and curb me being a cranky asshole. Consensus from friends and family, it didn’t work.

Glucosamine with MSM, because my joints are made out of asbestos and hope.

Fish oil, because I don’t eat fish.

Actually yes @baumbodies , monohydrate, but it’s the Walmart brand SixStar lol. I don’t use a lot of it but I have never been a big user of creatine. I guess I should invest in a higher quality version if i’m gonna use it

I think monohydrate is great. It’s the cheapest, which is why $20 a month seemed high.

Thanks for your tip, I think I’ll try it soon!
For the tribulus, I haven’t found any research confirming that it improve the sleep, but this is the effect it has on me while combined with ZMA. I’ve tried both ZMA and tribulus alone and the effect wasn’t the same.

I have suffered pretty bad insomnia off and on for years as well. Other than Rx meds which I’m not a fan of because they give me a hangover and then can’t train in the AM. I haven’t tried this ZMA you speak of but I have seen/heard of it. I tried a few sleep formulas with Phenibut which were ok. Now I just use sheer exhaustion to put me out. I find if I stay on a schedule and i’m up at 6am and go to bed at 10:30-11pm. After training in the AM and a long day at work, I sleep really well now but it changes week to week, i’m getting way off topic lol. sorry

I move around a lot. From SEA to Japan to the US. Like a lot of types of seawater and freshwater fish, clams, crabs, squids, and prawns cooked in various different ways with traditional spices. No, I don’t worry about mercury, and other people from SEA and Japan don’t seem to worry, and people there eat tons of seafood, especially in SEA.

When I am in the US, I take fish oils sometimes just because typical American diet hardly ever includes seafood in it, not many types of fish and other kinds of seafood either to buy for groceries.
