Supplements For 17 y/o

I keep reading sites that say supplements really wouldn’t hurt to take to get just somewhat faster results. Are there any good supplements that a 17 y/o can take without bad effects?

At most a post-workout shake and a EFA capsule. Learn to eat properly then after that (a few years), include a few others. It will benefit you much more in the long run to learn to eat properly first then complement/supplement as needed, if at all.

Jeeeeeeeezus, stop being so impatient. You’re 17 for God sakes - you don’t need supplements. Go waste your money on something else.

I don’t think anyone can say that when they first got really serious about lifting, they didn’t want that little boost. There’s nothing wrong with it. And please, if it’s my money, I make my own decisions. I’m not like half of the U.S. teen scene that thinks about the dark side and fascinates about cutting themselves. I’m way more mature. Supplements might do me some good.

I’ve heard good things about food.

Supplements: Grow, Surge, and Flameout would be good. I wouldn’t recommend anything else at this point.

I suggest IRON.

and Stainless Steel (fork)

mixed with lots of feather (sleep)

using the search function!

It should help a lot in your quests.

hmm… I read about Flameout and it seems good. I’m not an expert at the terminology so…

(It also has a very cool looking bottle)

I can’t find “Grow”.

I’m about to look at “Surge”

BTW, would I take the doasage thats on the bottle, or maybe half since I’m new to the “ingredients” that it would put in my body?

You can take the full dose. You might not need it though. I personally take 3 pills and not 4. It’s only fish oil, which has been show to have anti-inflammatory effects and a positive influence on body composition [less fat and more muscle]. Grow is now Metabolic Drive Complete and is just a protein-carb supplement to help reach calorie totals. And Surge is a supplement to aid recovery to be taken after lifting. You will be fine with a full dose of Surge.

If Surge is too expensive, just buy the regular whey and mix it with dextrose/maltodextrin.

The key here is, you’re young, lots of good clean foods and heavy weights will pack on the meat. If you have a fast metabolism, then eat a pizza on the weekend and cheat more.

Grow!=Metabolic Drive Complete

Flameout, good stuff, as with any purified fish oils that have fresh water fish as the fish source. The key to flameout is the high level of DHA, which is a fatty acid in brain tissue (memory/thinking) and in the arteries, which helps smooth out for good blood flow.

The fish oils help your body store more carbs and burn more fat than usual as well as the aforementioned benefits.

Good to see a 17 year old guy ahead of the game here and taking advice and not taking Superdrol or Halodrol. I wish I knew about this gold mine when I was in HS.

Aren’t you getting any results now?

Here’s the deal with me. I have been lifting weights for about 2 years. Really maybe only 1 year. I’m so on and off because of the mood towards lifting. In the past, I’ve never really had the drive. I went for the wrestling team, and its not because of the pain that I quit. I quit because I have no strength. Personally, I wouldn’t mind taking on a guy twice my size for the ladies. But really, what are my chances? I have some muscle showing. But thats just it, it just shows. I don’t know why my muscles won’t work for me. I felt like such a quitter that I destined myself to get stronger and take on the world. I just want to speed this process up. I know it takes time. Hell, I’m still trying to get an effective work-out routine. I just got my cables hooked up in my lifting area so I can expand a little. ( can’t go to the gym because of car trouble ) I just want to get stronger and healthier so I can make something of my life. I’m 17 going on 18 in a few months. At the rate i’m going, what will I have to show in 5 years? A loser? A person that can’t do a pull-up? Everyone has their reasons for lifting. And most take supplements. I think I have a good reason to atleast try them out.

Ack, OK, here’s what you need to know.

Grow! is now called Metabolic Drive, a meal-replacement powder, or protein powder, made by Biotest, the company that’s in cahoots with T-Nation. Protein powders are NOT supplements. As their longer name implies, they are used to “replace” meals. That is, if you are a serious athlete, physique geek, etc., you will need lots and lots of protein to grow, and there’s only so much chicken and steak one man can eat in a day. Most people here eat every two-three hours, each meal being biiiiiig, 600+ calories, unless they’re trying to cut. But of course, life bites you in the ass on paper, and cooking five or six times a day is a kick in the pants. MRPs help with this, by providing the possibility of a quick shake, high in protein, high in calories, for quick consumption. Do yourself a favor and grab a couple tubs of Metabolic Drive.

Now Surge is the only “supplement” you need, if you can call it that. Essentially it replaces your body of the sugars and carbs you lost during your workout. Most people drink half a serving during their workout, or halfway through, and the rest after it. Some bigger guys (reaching 200 lbs), or the richer guys, have two total servings. Either way, this powder is amazing, it really helps your body grow, and it helps you get better, faster, stronger, etc. I’d definitely pick this one up.

Beyond those two, you don’t need to dabble much. Zinc, magnesium, multi-vitamins, BCAA, creatine, fish oil, sure, they’re great, but at your age, you don’t need to be spending money on these things. Many of their benefits you won’t even feel until you’re older. I will say this for fish oil though, if you can’t get enough healthy fats during the day, pick up a bottle of Flameout, Biotest’s fish oil product. But most people are fine with red meat, peanut butter, and a variety of peanuts.

So in the end, stick to Metabolic Drive and Surge. And get yourself a meal plan, it’s by FAAAAAAAR the most important thing. What’s the point of supplements if you’re supplementing a shit base.

very helpful. thanks.

now, If i take Surge and Metabolic Drive, how could I do cardio? Would doing cardio mess up the effects of Surge and MD? Like should I take them before or after cardio. If I take them before cardio, won’t cardio just burn them off by accident?

What else would you eat on a typical day when taking Surge and Metabolic dDive? Like lots of other proteins, or lots of carbs, or lots of fatty acids, or what?

So stereotyping half of the US teen scene about being suicidal is mature? Yeah man, real mature.

Protein, creatine, BCAA’S, maybe additional amino tabs, multi-vitamin and glutamine(I know this one will cause flak). These are in addition to a lot of high quality foods eaten very often. 100% of people on this site will push food and lots of it. If anyone ever tries to tell you supplements are more important then you shout the word “Bullshit” from the highest peaks.

it takes a man to realize and notify about his surroundings. Any boy could just go through life by ignoring the truth.

I hope you’re not part of the TCOA (teen cutters of america).
