SuperMan: Thoughts?

Smalleville deserves a hell of a lot of credit. They focused intensely on how the main difference between Lex and Clark weren’t themselves…but their upbringing.

The Kents are why Superman is the way he is. Without them, he could have been another Lex Luthor easily. It is that focus on family and upbringing that made that character work even if he wasn’t built…but he was supposed to be a kid on that show growing up into Superman so I let that pass.

It ain’t Superman without the Kents.
Have you looked into “Irredeemable”?

That what I think Superman would really look like.

Just watched the Man of Steel #2 trailer and it gave me chills. Not many movie previews do that for me. Very well edited and defiantly hold off enough to make you want to see the film.

They had to make him more real. That is the only way he can stand next to Batman (who started off campy in movies also until a real writer and director got ahold of him).

The truth is, if Superman were real, he would be more hated than loved.

His every move would be criticized politically and legally.

Batman was a joke before Nolan got ahold of it. For several films it was nothing but a terrible movie with poor clown-like characters.

Sure Jack Nicholson was good as the Joker, but he wasn’t the joker you’ll remember 20-30 years from now who was unhinged and made lunatics look friendly.

How could a man in a cape go around teaching criminals to learn fear? That was a big question but hey, Gotham was a city, like every other big city and it had very dark areas.

People identified with that and actually wished there was some man with the strength and skill to show the scum who is boss.

The design of batman preys on the fears of those who prey on others.

 • You dont know who he is
 • You know he can kick the shit out of you
 • You dont know any of his friends or family, he is anonymous
 • He doesn’t like you

Thats a real world application put into a comic book.

My nephew loves Batman, he is 7 years old. He has more than a dozen batman toys, hell when I was a kid batman toys were good.

Superman will be a good movie. Its realistic, its gritty and doesn’t have the wishy-washy feel like previous Superman movies.

You cannot fairly say the old Superman would do well today, it would bomb because its cheesey but its old and thats all anybody knew at the time. The heart has grown to love it.

The Man of Steel has a feel to it, the US military going in for him throws up an interesting angle. What would the modern military machine think of someone who could pick up a tank and throw it?

As long as it isn’t stupendoulsy kiddie-friendly like the Green lantern, it’ll be good.
I think part of the Batman love also has to do with the Arkham Asylum and Arkham City video games. The fact that they were released around the time as the Nolan movies made them extremely popular. That plus they were really good games.

They tried, but I had some prior engagements so I had to decline the part.

I can already envision what this Superman movie is going to look and feel like with Zack Snyder as director. It’s going to be visually more stunning than any Batman/Spiderman movies you’ve seen that’s for sure. We’ll see if Snyder stepped up his game in character development and story telling.

All the Superman movies watched were fucking terrible. I was reluctant about this until I saw who is producing it. This could be good…
Not a big fan of Nolan. I think Tarentino should have directed all the Batman movies.

No way. Tarantino would do to superhero films, what Tim Burton would do to horror films.

I think on the next Batman reboot, they should focus more on the inner life of Batman with some surrealistic/dream sequences, David Lynch style. And the action scenes should be Tarantino bloodbath. They should focus a lot on the Arkham and screw the PG 13 ratings in all the previous Batman movies.

Superman should be directed by Ridley Scott.

Those games are more violent, which is appealing.

Well made too.

TBH, I had to decline because they said Superman didn’t have a mustache.

I guess the world is ready for a super hero with a lip warmer.

I had a lot of fun on Arkham City for a few days. Haven’t played it since though

I think in about 5-8 years time they should make a TV show about Bruce Wayne and his transformation into batman. That would be a show I would watch.

The WB wanted that…but they were left with Green Arrow.

Well they basically turned green arrow into the batman origin story anyway.

Not too bad overall, but some weird disconnects with Black Arrow being a guy in a business suit and speedy being his sister.

I haven’t seen it yet.

I’m glad if they got it right though.

They scared the shit out of me with that Wonder Woman show crap they came out with earlier. It was so bad they didn’t even release it after filing the pilot.

Terrible things about Smallville:

 1. A 30 year old dude playing a highschool kid? Come on son.

 2. Clark never learning how to fly even though they teased you with it almost every single season.

 3. The way Chloe talked. Seriously, no highschool kid in the history of the world talks like her. “Wall of weird” was so lame.

 4. Kryptonite turning vampires back into humans? Come on son!

With all of that being said I was a fan of the show back in the day but man was it annoying as could be.

I could never get through one episode. Didn’t feel right.
