dude i know you’re a gints fan and i’m happy for you really. but please stop drinking for a moment and check-in w/ reality:

  1. vs pats: 21/40 255 yds; 1 INT; 2 fumbles; 2 TD and one never again in a million years triple-sack escape followed by a never again in a million years reception.

  2. vs cheeseheads: 21/40 254 yds; 2 INT; 2 sacks; and ZERO TD

  3. vs dallas : 12/18 163 yds; 2 TD; 3 sacks

  4. vs bucs : 20/27 185 yds…that’s 20 completions for 185 yds…

  5. vs pats : 22/32 251 yds…has a pretty good game until clutch-time when he fumbles and INT’s in the 4th.

  6. vs bills: 7/15 111 yds; 2 INT; FIVE fumbles…that’s 7 completions and 7 turnovers…

I understand the Bills game.

However, the rest of them are subjective. The Giants did not put everything on his shoulders, and he didn’t fuck anything up. I don’t blame QB’s for sacks- that’s irrational and you know it.

On top of that, alot of his picks were going off his receivers hands- the one in the Super Bowl hit Smith in the hands, and I seem to remember one in the Packers game too.

What it comes down to is that the QB leads the team. He engineers the drives and runs the show. I look at it like this- if Eli doesn’t drive them down the field and score that TD in response to the Cowboys ten minute TD drive before the half, we lose that game.

If he doesn’t get us in field position for the GB game for three, count’em, three fuckin field goal attempts, we lose that game.

If he doesn’t do… well, everything that he did in the Pats game, we’re not even close. And that last two minute drill- I know you guys probably don’t watch the Giants that much, so I’ll tell you from watching them- Eli’s two minute drill is second to none in the league.

Tom Brady was not statistically incredible until this season, but he won games. Eli is that same kind of way- somehow, someway, this motherfucker figured out how to win. And you don’t just forget that.

and congratulations to eli manning for finally knocking off mark rypien as most-mediocre player to win superbowl mvp.

Agreed, managing a good game and not screwing things up are a qbs first job.

I guess you missed the last 5 or so minutes of the fourth quarter, didnt you Swivel?

Eli had great moments down the stretch but he was not dominant for entire games. He didn’t make very many mistakes after the Bills game. He showed he has potential to be a top level quarterback but he needs to put up better numbers to be considered great.

It seems swivel is the only real Pats fan. All the bandwagon fans disappeared.

lookit…my point is this: i would’ve liked to have seen a defensive player(s)take MVP, they deserved it. i give eli props for getting it done but most valuable player props ? they wouldn’t have won it without him props ? i just don’t believe that. do you ? if you had to choose between playing that game again without eli or playing again without osi or strahan who would you pick ? keep the d intact and the gints still win even if they start j-load. but without either of those guys on the ends it’s 28-17 pats.

I agree. I wanted the Giants D-Line to take the MVP but I couldn’t see them splitting the award 3 or 4 ways.

You could make the same case against Brady’s first SB MVP. I don’t have the stats in front of me but as I recall he played a decent game but relied on his kicker to win and needed his defense to shut down the Rams high powered offense.

When in doubt the winning QB usually gets it.

Mannings first INT in the postseason came in the Superbowl, he didn’t throw a pick vs. the packers

One of the best postseasons ever by a QB.

you’re right on the GB game, sorry.

but one of the best postseasons ever ? dude you’re gonna have to explain yourself there.

Lets face it, the Giants are far from an all-star team. If you look at other great postseasons runs, something tells me those teams were more dominating than the Giants. Eli carried the offense, the running game helped, but it was average most of the postseason.

He outdueled Jeff Garcia, Tony Romo, Brett Favre, and now Tom Brady. And every game he did it with a different receiver. Tyree last week, Burress vs. GB, and Toomer vs. Dallas.

ONE of the best postseasons ever, not THE best!

Shockey better find a new home, because slamming drnks in the box when you should be on the sidelines is not a good teammate. Hopefully he will go to Oakland and waste away there so we don’t have to hear about him like we didn’t with Moss when he was there.

GO BRONCOS! Pats have to play the AFC west next year and the broncos have their number. I can’t wait!

You are still not making sense.

In a game that had no outright clear “stars”, you have to admit that the QB who engineers the Super bowl winning 2 minute drill drive and throws the game winning TD is going to get the MVP.

I have no idea how the game would have gone with any of them out… but it is easier to bring defensive pressure to bear by blitzing and mixing schemes than to take the head off the offense and throw in a guy who has never led the offense in a game situation.

So I disagree. But yes Swivel, props for being the only Pats fan to stand up and still say anything about the game… all the bandwagoners, it appears, have dissapeared…

And let bygones be bygones, cause now it’s baseball season… Go BoSox.

Great write up in The Onion:

[i]Patriots’ Season Perfect For Rest Of Nation

FOXBOROUGH, MA, As the once-invincible, still-insufferable Patriots attempt to come to grips with their 17-14 Super Bowl loss to the Giants, the death of their dream to go undefeated, and the possible end of their dynasty, almost every other person in America is reveling in what they consider the perfect ending to New England’s season.

“I just couldn’t imagine a better ending to the Patriots odyssey,” said Simon Williams, a Kansas City-area football fan who usually watches the college game but found himself caught up in the Patriots’ sheer loathsomeness during the season. “The utter lack of humility they displayed alongside an equal lack of any joy in the game, that toad of a coach, and that cologne-ad quarterback? If they have to act that badly while playing that well, you really want to see them fail in the biggest way possible. Thank God almighty, that’s what we got.”

There is general agreement that the Super Bowl, despite the low score, was one of the finest in recent memory, due in part to the fearsome performance by the Giants and a cool, courageous display of quarterbacking by Eli Manning.

However, when asked about their favorite parts of the game, most fans chose the Patriots’ cocky decision to begin the game with a trick play, which the Giants stopped handily; Bill Belichick’s smug third-quarter attempt at a fourth-and-13 conversion, which blew up in his face, instead of trying a field goal; and New England’s offensive line, which featured three Pro Bowlers, allowing high-cheekboned, doe-eyed, supermodel-impregnating passer Tom Brady to be hit over 20 times during the course of the game.

“Did you see [Giants defensive tackle Jay] Alford smack Brady right in the face on that last drive?” said Bellvue, WA newsstand operator Christian Dansby. “Brady was almost offended. I think he forgot for a few months there that he was a football player. It was just perfect.”

“God, seeing Randy Moss do his weird chicken-wing crowd taunt when they scored to go ahead in the fourth was awful,” said Jeff Lafferty, who watched the Super Bowl with rabid New England fans despite having known them for years. “What’s worse is that the Pats fans ate it up. Of course, when Burress made that catch to win? Perfection. That’s the only word for the Pats now. Perfection.”

However, most fans gave responses that had little to do with the game itself and more with the almost flawless joy of seeing the Patriots lose, as a team that has been insufferable and unappealing in victory instantly became inconsolable and self-pitying in defeat.

Frequently mentioned examples of instances which, upon reflection, sweetened the Patriots’ utter failure included the team’s propensity to complain about unfair officiating after their victories; their habit of gleefully running up the score, which also resulted in Brady and Moss earning NFL single-season scoring records in blowouts; and of course, the players’ and coaches’ hateful attitude.

“Come on, that cheating scandal to open the season and all they say is ‘Everybody does it?’ They could have at least acted a little bit sorry,” said Milwaukee architect and sports fan David Engel. “They acted like a bunch of third-graders, just the way Belichick did when he ran off the field with time left on the clock. At least he shook the other coach’s hand this time. That’s a first for the big baby.”

“The worst part for me is that none of them seem to enjoy playing football,” said Lexington, KY-area mechanic Jack Colgrave. “Even when they were winning, all they did was taunt, Randy Moss taunting crowds, Wes Welker telling people they sucked, Brady sneering at the very idea they might get beat someday. What a bunch of absolutely perfect assholes.”

“Did their team plane land safely back in Foxborough?” Colgrave asked. “It didn’t happen to lose altitude over Boston, burst into a cartwheel of flames, throwing players like Roman candles across New England, and then slam into few dozen loudmouth Patriots’ fans houses? It didn’t? Well, I guess no football season is perfect.”

shit. irish’s comments about the sox made me feel all fuzzy and i was ready to let this thread go until i saw that smack about denver. wtf ? you beat us when we have deadhorse corey dillon and chad jackson and doug frickn gabriel for receivers and this means you’ve “got our number” ?? and sorry but i’m still having trouble seeing eli’s postseason in there with the other contenders for “one of the best postseasons ever” like starr, favre, elway, staubach, young, montana, peyton, brady, aikman, bradshaw, theisman or johnny u…you’re telling me that eli is interchangeable with those guys ? you think eli is even HOF material ?

Don’t worry, the Broncos won’t be able to do it, but the Chargers will for sure (GO CHARGERS).

I’m young, so I wasn’t actually THERE for many of those others, but I think Eli had one of the most amazing post-season runs. Like others have said, he out-dueled Favre, Brady, and Romo, tell me that’s not impressive. It’s made all the more amazing by the assumption that he would fold like a lawn-chair, but he didn’t.

It was a courageous performance, he led one of the most improbable Super Bowl runs ever, finishing it off with one of the most clutch 2-minute drills ever against possibly the “best team ever” (as all the talking heads said). That Tyree catch wasn’t “lucky.” He escaped from like 3 guys, extending the play and then gave his man a chance at the ball, how could that have been better?

I tell you, as a San Diego fan, it’s awfully hard to not like the guy and respect his performance (even though there’s plenty of reason to hate him).

Are you taking something that was written in The Onion serious?

i still like the patriots

This was a great, close game to watch. Have seen many better though(Giants v. Patriots, San Fran v. Cincy to name a couple)But I wanted to see history made. I don’t like either team, but I can’t stand the thought of a delinquent team winning the Super Bowl-Shouldn’t have been in the playoffs.

I think it helped not having Tiki and Shocky around. And the Patriots came into the game with the wrong game plan. Should have came out gunning the ball, instead of clock managing. That backfired.
