Super Bowl Half Time Gayness

I thought Prince was great. You almost forgot it was raining sideways from nodding your head along to the beat.

I will say, a stadium filled with mostly men singing along and hitting the ‘high notes’ at the end of the performance, shows a respect for artist and the talent that they have. As a woman watching, I thought that was impressive.

Does that worry you for some reason?

Am I the only person wondering how Prince was able to play electric guitar in the rain? Aside from impairing manual dexterity, wouldn’t you expect the wet guitar create a ton of distortion.

Agreed…though I honestly couldn’t figure if he actually WAS playing.

I’m not saying he can’t…just he kept stopping and walking…and I still heard the guitar playing…

I’m not a fan, nor a hater of Price…he’s ok…definitely talented, just not always my cup of music…but I’m STILL not convinced he was actually PLAYING the guitar during the show.

I’m also amazed at how fast they brought in and broke down that massive stage…

I said the same exact thing to the people I was watching with…

Between the people on the field and all the “stuff”…it was like watching David Copperfield make the shuttle disappear

Here’s Purple Rain.

After he asked the crowd “Ya’ll wanna sing tonight?” I just felt that this halftime show was more than just a halftime show.

It’s one of those instances in time where there will only be one performance like that ever, and it happened last night while he sang purple rain.

Downplay it or bag on it if you want, I can see how some might deem it cheesy, but for me it was awesome.

B.

Wow! I’m so glad there’s actually real men that can at LEAST give Prince the respect her deserves!

When I train I listen to (in no order);

Motley Crue
Iron Maiden
Motorhead
AC/DC
Rage Against La Machine
Prince

I defended Prince for about the last WEEK when people learned that he was performing. Including most of my family.

Prince is an underrated guitarist and a hell of a perfromer. He seems to be more “into” women than all the 80’s rock bands combined! Nothing “gay” about that.

(Thumbs down to a guy I really like though… Billy Joel. Not the voice for the National Anthem I guess. I felt bad for him).

I saw him hitting the frets with his left hand while walking around. People play like that all the time. You actually don’t even need to strum or pick to play, you can just hammer the frets on the neck if you know what you’re doing. I’ll have to watch it again and see.

Kind of sad that there is more discussion of the half time show than of the game.

The half time show was fine. Nothing spectacular, no wardrobe malfunctions.

What did you guys think of the game? You know that thing between the halftime show and the commercials?

Game was good, although at times I felt I was watching a HS game what with all the fumbles, etc.

Opening kickoff and subsequent run back was outstanding. First quarter was probably the best part of the game.

As for the commercials, the Blockbsuter mouse one and the Snickers commercial were funniest.

Prince and his ex-wife dancer, actress, and singer Mayte Garcia

 1. Prince can play every instrument in a classical orchestra except horns.

 2. Prince has collaborated with more artists, acorss genres of music, then any other artist in modern history

 3. Prince has released, bar minimum, 1 album per year for the span of his 20+ year career under his name alone. Several albums have been released by protogees, psudonyms, and side project at the same time.

 4. Prince’s last tour was the top selling act that year.

 5. Go to a club and have them play P Control and sit back and watch how many people flock to the dance floor.

 6. Prince is not gay, and as a gay man i can tell you that his gay following is very limited (though i am indeed a huge fan)

If you mean pretend playing the guitar with a CD playing then he was the best ever.

quit making shit up and talking about things you know nothing about. you’re an idiot if you can’t tell that was live playing, and pretty unbelieveable live playing at that. prince’s cranked to 11 tone was incredible.

you’re also an idiot if you can’t recognize a kick-ass performance when you see one regardless of what your personal tastes are.

that was the best half-time show i’ve ever seen.

Sorry it was pouring out so they probably wouldn’t risk it. Plus he wasn’t in synch with his guitar. Also, they never do live performances at the super bowl. Its too fucking important to fuckup on live television.
Wrong again. Prince (and all performers) do perform live (actually, live to track) at the Super Bowl. There is no lip synching or pretend playing of instruments. Believe me, I have been involved with the production of Super Bowl pregame, postgame and halftime shows, and the artists actually do perform their stuff. There is a soundboard guy at the ready to dump to track, if necessary, but trust me, Prince was performing for real yesterday.

And he rocked. Probably the best halftime show ever.

As for the load in and load out of the staging, it is an incredibly well orchestrated, heavily rehearsed process. Tons of equipment are brought on and off of the field in what seems to be a blink of an eye. Quite a rush to be involved with all that.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Most Superbowl shows are live. It’s rare that it’s not live. And with the people that have gotten caught recently not performing live, I doubt any credible performer would risk not performing live.

I love getting the gay guy’s perspective (in a non-sexual, purely platonic way of course).

Hey I am just saying. You ask most of us 'mos about Prince and they will say “uummm i like When Doves Cry”. He just isnt big in this little slice of the world.

Now u go up and ask a 'mo about Madonna or Cher… You better take a seat and get out a fire extinguisher!

Don’t forget about Liza!

My old gay college roommate is more into the Grateful Dead. He also likes hairy older guys and looks more like a lumberjack. It is funny how many women throw themselves at him before they know he is gay.

Ok, are you prepared to send me the $0.85 worth of protein shake that just came out of my nose? Seriously, this is pre-workout protein we are talking about here. You just can’t make the Madonna/Cher comment, without paying me back. Kidding.

Seriously…that’s funny shit right there.

Because I’d rather hear an unquestionable musical genius and accclaimed showman at the Super Bowl Halftime Show than what you described above?
five-twelve wrote:
I mean come on…PRINCE!!!

Why is it that the only bands that play shows like this are lame ass ones?

Its always, U2 and the Stones or some other shitty band that no one listens too anymore.

All I have to say is that nothing makes football more manily than having Prince do the have time show.
Hey clueless, Rolling Stones, after 40 years, still out-sell ANY band touring

I dare say almost any “Current” act will long be forgotten in 2-3 years and most assuredly dead and buried a decade from now

But what would one expect from someone who’s point of reference is Justin Timberlake and their entire love life is Cinemax after midnight and a blow up doll… just a hunch

As for a band I would like. I don’t know anything that is not completely old and out dated. How about Linkin Park, Nickleback, Nas, LL Cool J, Jay Z. Fuck man anyone other than a 50 year old muscians. But please no Timberlake…

Jesus Christ you are a little faggot. Linkin Park? A nerdy white rapper, some screaming little shit and overproduced records? Nickelback? The band who’s every song sounds exactly the same? Both of those bands are filled with millionaires and people that haven’t had to deal with the angst of life in 10+ years. LL Cool J? So you can look at his abs and jack yourself off in the middle of your living room?

As for Nas and Jay Z, and “your crew”, thanks for keeping it real- I know when I need to get the pulse of the street I turn to a white guy who skis and lives in Massachusetts.

Nickelback? Seriously? You should be euthanized.
LMAO…

Dweez-man, remind me to never, ever debate you about anything. EVER.

X2!

please stop making shit up.

the fact that you think it was recorded shows your ignorance and how ridiculously talented prince is at the same time. again stop making shit up. please.
