Subsidizing People for Being Fat?

Well, there are hardworking fat people, but I think you can call them the exception to the rule.

Why would someone want to ruin their health and cut like 20+ years off their life, look like a pile of bacon put into a blender and then soaked in bleach, and be almost useless physically?

Some have a good reason. Many are lazy.

We should replace this system with mandatory Fat Farms. The obese are sentenced to a routine of boot camp and instructed on proper, healthy eating, while being constantly humiliated for being a drain on healthcare, unemployment and welfare. They will not be released into society until there is proof of remorse and rehabilitation.

This would be cheaper and more efficient than welfare, and save the US trillions in healthcare dollars and unemployment, while eliminating the obesity problem from society.

Yo Momma I like how you think.

The thing is if they made it a Reality TV show they would be lining up to get their camera time.

It could be a poor man’s Biggest Loser. Then again, I bet some of them would pay, so long as they get to be on camera.

everyone wants to be famous even if it’s for being fat. What else explains those horrific shows of that obesity treatment center and fat man in a bed shows?

I have a distant cousin that hasn’t worked in 12 years using fat as an excuse. She says that she can’t work because standing and walking makes her feet hurt. She is only 190lbs, and she is always standing and playing baseball and crap at the family reunions.

I have told her that I think she’s a drain on society…

oh man, now someone over here is going to hear about that and batter it and deep fry it

The only problem is that my BMI is almost 32. No doubt they would use some asinine system to determine obesity.

The better solution is to allow them to be denied health care (for the adults). And consider a parent allowing a child to become obese a form of gross negligence.

I think we could pick out a few thousand with visual tools alone that would qualify.

I do like your idea of saving some kids first though.

That’s bulk nutrition.

In all seriousness let natural selection run its course. Subsidization of fat asses goes against the principles of evolution.

Yeah, because every single job in the whole wide world requires standing and walking… oh, except for my current job which requires me to sit on my ass in front of a computer for 10 hours a day. I can see how sitting on her fat ass would be tiring though, god knows I get sick of it.

ugh.

WDF
no way theyre eating 3000cals.
I eat around 3000 cals and even when I DONT workout i still dont gain weight. Theyre obviously eating a good 5000cals.

I saw an article in the NY Times a while ago regarding the burden that obesity puts on the health care system.

Since it is linked to diseases like diabetes, the hospitals are overwhelmed with people that are unable to pay, but can’t be turned away for treatment. Medicare picks up some of it, but not enough to make a difference.

I’m fairly fat tolerant and cut people some slack if they’re contributors to society. The reality is, how many 350 and 400 lb people do you see that make it to 70 or 80 years old?

Actually I read a recent study that looked at the cost to society of being fat and decided that it was actually cheaper for insurance companies to insure fat people over a lifetime then it was to insure non obese people, for the point you mention at the end.

Basically, fat people don’t cost that much because they die young, before they can get old enough to develop cancer, Alzheimer’s, etc. Most 80 yr old people don’t contribute to society, but cost the medical system tons of money w/ nursing homes, expensive cancer treatments, hip replacements, take tons of prescription medicine.

A quadruple bypass surgery might run 40000$, but that’s cheaper than putting someone up in a nursing home and paying for a bunch of prescription medicine for a few years. Not exactly the most ethical standpoint, but interesting nonetheless. [/quote]

Seconded. Fat people generally cost less because they die earlier. That is good for the system, but I’m pissed I can’t use it as an argument for systematic fat people discrimination/extermination.

I think the worst part of that article is the picture that shows them all standing there, looking pretty proud of themselves for some reason.

The weak will destroy everything the strong have achieved. They are the parasites of society and therefore are unable to function in a productive manner.

Fat people need more mirrors!

She claimed that her lack of a college degree made it impossible to get a job that didn’t involve manual labor.

The thing that really threw me was that she worked hauling boxes onto shipping trucks all day at some shipping station, yet she claimed that she only ate 1200 calories a day and was still getting fatter:

hefting boxes all day + 1200 calorie intake = gaining fat?

Judging by the way she ate at the reunions, I estimate she probably takes in something like 6000-7000 calories a day, most of it in the form of soda and small babies.

Fat people may be medically cheaper to live with in the long run, but I can tell you right now that they’re a total bitch to deal with for those in the field of medicine.

Every time you need to move the fat fuck, you need a forklift, or a system of pulleys. They break and bend equipment. And closing them up after surgery is an adventure in itself - after spending a summer as a volunteer in a urology/oncology clinic, I can say with certainty that very few things piss a tired surgeon off as much as a fat patient.

Ouch i see both sides of the story my family is very over weight my dad is over 200kgs and still eats crap.

dunno very interesting

I hate fat people.

I hate lazy people.

I hate leeches and vampires.

I actually grew up with a leech of a mother, she was/is a drug addict too and I hated the life. Now I’m in the top 10% of wage earners in the U.S.

As I was growing up showing a huge interest in lifting weights and getting bigger everyone told me I’d never keep it up as life got in the way. I’ve always kept it up and I’m 32, I’d say that I’ve changed my family tree!
