Strongman Event Training

I’m also thinking about buying a pitbull log. Should I spend another $100 for the 12" log or would the 10" log be fine. I dont have the money to buy both.

If you have the money, you’re probably better off with the 12". That’s what you will see at most contests anyway. In fact, I don’t think I have ever seen a 10" in a contest since I started competing. However, if money is an issue, you might just have to make due with the 10".

Thanks man. So far I’m planning on saving up for the pitbull deluxe yoke, and the 12" log. I also want to buy the ironmind apollons axle, and some stone molds. I actually have a mold for a 175 stone from slaters but I’m probably gonna have to buy the 240 as well.

If I would be so bold as to venture a recommendation, I might suggest a bit more focus on the deadlift. It takes a lot of work to get a really good deadlift, and it’s a very important exercise for strongmen. Not only because it’s often an event itself, but because you pick a lot of stuff off the ground in strongman.

I plan on starting competing in strongman next summer, and I will be preparing with axle deadlifts, deficit deadlifts, ME, DE, chains, silver dollar deadlifts, the works.

I am focusing on primarily gym strength at the moment and plan on doing so until about February. Then I am going to focus on technique with the events and conditioning. The only kind of strongman training I am doing currently is grip training the rest is all regular gym lifts.

Yes you are right, the deadlift is probably the best lift you can do for strongman. I would also put an emphasis on explosive training, and front squats. Also strong hands and forearms translate to just about everything.
