Strong Women Competition Adventure

…I am sooo glad that ouro and I had our trusty cameras out to record our Awesome Competition Adventure; it was a bit hectic doing the dual Photochick/Strongchick role (“Am I supposed to be lifting something, or taking a pic?! OOPS!”), but so worthwhile to look back on the day’s work/fun  and see it again. As they say, a pic’s worth a thousand words, even though I seem to stretch that word thing to the breaking point-blush.

I think that’s all the photos for now, BUT, stay tuned for a short camera VIDEO clip of ouro MUSCLING through the press medley (thankfully the audio won’t be a part of that presentation, as I was screeching like a banshee…yeesh). I’d upload it now, but I’m on s-l-o-w dial-up; it’ll be quicker to get it to ouro in the near future, and have her do the upload!

It’ll be worth the wait, as you really get a sense of the epic struggle involved in that freakin’, um, I mean DELIGHTFUL test…stay tuned!

Wow !! Great job! Thanks for posting the details & pics!! Motivating!

Renee

You guys both ROCK.

Sounds like a good time.

Congrats! That’s fantastic! I’m hoping to compete in my first contest in August, too

This is so awesome. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Sounds like my kind of weekend… I’d much rather do something like that than go to a lame movie or sit on the couch all day.

How exciting! Ouroboro, you look fantastic – so competent and happy!

Good on both of you!

Hmmm…Emily Q, I’m so sorry you originally thought I was maybe saying, “Hey, ouro IS fab, but am I, like, chopped liver?!” It sounds as if after you saw the video, my ‘hmmm’ made more[?] sense; so relieved about that!!

I just put that silly ‘hmmm’ non-comment down, 'cuz I didn’t know if I had to have some text in the message space before the vid would load. And as we’re on mega-slow dial-up for the internet, it takes FORever even just to load a pic.

We’d never actually successfully uploaded a video-tried once, and gave up after an hour! Soooo, after my ‘hmmm’, I WAS gonna put something like “…don’t know if this vid clip will load!”

After 2 hours, it still didn’t look like the OURO PRESS clip had uploaded, so I just shut the 'puter down, completely forgetting about my enigmatic/strange/isolated ‘hmmm’!

What a surprise to log on and find the clip up and functioning-YAY!! I’m so pleased that ouro didn’t have to wait to upload it on her set-up…and that you-all didn’t have to spend a suspenseful few days biting your nails, and waiting to witness ouro’s big strength challenge video!!

It’s up, and it’s awesome!! Not 'cuz I took it (kicked myself for missing the first press in the medley!), but 'cuz ouro kicked butt…and even took time to skip in between press #1 and press #2 :)!!

Enjoy this moment in the sun (well, technically it was overcast!), ouro: I’m sure there will be many more, and as well as being your agent and chief cheerleader, I’ll be happy to video as well. I’m sure you’ll agree that upping my agent’s cut to 90% will be well worth it ;)! Teehee.

Ouroboro is familiar to me, that’s why I commented specifically.

Edit: Sorry, the video hadn’t loaded, I thought you were “hmmming” my post.

But you do look competent, happy, glowing and strong. Er, both of you do.

Thanks for posting that one Micropower. I hadn’t really looked too closely at it yesterday. I guess we’re lucky the sound is left out. Everyone can miss you screaming and me swearing when I missed the bag the first time. I can’t believe I skipped between lifts

If anyone wonders, the bar is the women’s version of the log press we had to use yesterday. It is a juryrigged bar that belongs to one of the trainers that he uses for training log press. The bar weighs 55lb and they added 30. It was a bit harder because it wasn’t round you couldn’t roll it up your shoulders.

Thanks Emily. I feel like I’ve said this so many times but it really was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. But then I don’t get out much. If you get the chance, you should try it.

You know, it would never have in a million years occurred to me that I could do something like that. But…maybe. It does look fun. And I’m starting to get sort of muscle-y. In fact, five minutes ago or so I asked my husband to feel my back. It just feels so different to me when I reach back to scratch.

Great job ladies, you both look very impressive, and should be proud of your accomplishments.

Ouroboro_s, killer job! Looks like you had a blast.

You have to promise that you’ll do the Woodstock comp! I grew up and lived about 20 minutes away from there and I had planned on doing that comp. I can’t now, being almost 1000 miles away but I’m homesick and I’d love to see you win it.

Great pics and videos and good for you for going all out having never used the implements before. That’s actually pretty common for first time around strong women.

I absolutely want to do that one. I’m trying to see if there is any one day training kind of thing for the things like tire flipping and sled dragging. Mostly for tire flipping though. It would be a lot harder than this one. Also, they’ll only do it for women if there are enough entrants.

I hope to talk Micropower into that one too. That was actually the best part; having someone to do it with and have a laugh with. Somehow things like that are better when they are shared experiences.

If I do it, my main goal is not to look like a huge knob. I like to keep the bar low

…waif-like (avec un peu de muscle!) Micropower, reporting, Cap’n ouro, MAAM! (Oops, hope that doesn’t give you any flashbacks, ouro, seriously!)

I think that the Woodstock Competition is more likely to have enough women-maybe they’ll even get enough to make up a couple of weight categories?!-to be a go, BUT if they’re short I’ll give serious thought to being the ‘sacrificial goat’!

(Hey, if I can get a gift basket like they had at Steel City, I’m most def there!)

Out here in the boonies, there are a few BIG tires floating around that are worn out re: tractors etc.; maybe when Dave and I (and all the Ark critters!) move to our larger farm, we can open up a strength training camp?!

Between Woodstock having some Sat? practice days, and ‘tires’ lurking in Hamilton, should be possible to do some event-specific training…still have a bit of a tuff time imagining 100 lbs. of moi moving 400 lbs. of tire, but if not-that-much-bigger ouro is game?!

Ya never know :).

p.s. ouro, ya think YOUR bar is low-puhleese!!

De bonnes choses entrent dans petits paquets!

Go for it ladies. Never mind keeping the bar low - set it high!

What’s the date on the Woodstock thingy?
Do you have a contact? You 2 girls better expect some company next time. LOTS of company.

I would have hurt myself doing that, or peed my pants.

Great job, bitches!!! And I use that as a term of endearment. Really!

You may be joking about peeing your pants but I went to the toilet about 5 times I was so nervous. It was a legitimate worry of mine

Awesome job,

strongwomen/man competitions are a lot of fun. I bet this won’t be your last.

Is there anyone in your area you can train implements with?

This was incredible fun for us. There is a big one in August in a town called Woodstock. For the first time there will be a women’s open if there are enough competitors. I’d really like to be in that one. We’ll see.

I’m trying to find something local to train these events. Most of the events and weights planned I could do. Not as easily as today. But I could do it. The only exception is a 400lb tire flip. I’ve never done it so I have no idea of the technique required. However, I never picked an atlas stone up before today and did it pretty easily off the ground before the event.[/quote]

Awesome, just keep training deadlifts, OH presses, power cleans, front squats, etc. If you can find a tire it will be a big help as proper technique helps a lot. Don’t be intimidated that it is 400lbs I would have never thought I could flip a 850lb tire.

Here is a video about how to train stones without stones.
