Strong Little Snapper

Oh BTW i was in Denver for a layover this afternoon and people were saying it was going to be mid 90’s there…kinda hot for Denver isn’t it? But then i flew in 1000 something degrees at home…lol

heh. yeah, nothing worse than the PR’s stopping when one seems to be on a roll. they will come back, though!

No. It’s standard length. I grip very close in. Maybe that’s why it appears so long to you?[/quote]

Nevermind I had to go to your HUB to see clearly.

Today was cooler. Felt a bit low in spirits heading into the gym and tired since I only got a few hours of sleep last night. Woke up and got to thinking. You know how that goes. One of the things I was worrying about was my new PLing gear and feeling like I don’t have enough time to break it in and have confidence in it. Should I bag out on the meet? Go raw? Go back to my old gear? Suck it up and see what happens with the new gear?

Squat
5/45
5/95
4/120 belt
2/135
1/145
2/160 suit straps down, knee wraps . . . nowhere near depth . . . too light a weight to be in gear for me
2/175 good
3/185 straps up
3/195
3/200

I was close on a few of those triples. Depending on the judging, I could get called for depth based on my vids. Egads. I would sure have to eat crow if I got called on depth at a meet after I badger everyone around here. It’s hard for me to know when I’m “there” with the armor on.

That triple at 200 was a PR for me. Also, the geared USAPL state record for my age/weight class is 198.

Next week I’ll drop to doubles and singles. Still struggling a bit with handling the weight.

Reverse Band Squat
3/235
3/240

RDL
5/95
3/5/150

GMs
3/5/90

Lying Hammie
3/8/80

Decisions were made during my squat rest periods: Do the meet but wear the new squat suit and go back to my old bench shirt and DL suit.

Spirits and energy were greatly lifted after training. I love that about this sport.

The current record is 198?

Smash that.

doing great here! part of why i don’t do low bar back squats is because i can’t feel the depth, either. i bet you will learn to with practice, though. congrats on a very nice PR.

if you are doing triples then have your spotter call depth for you so you get deep enough. As far as if you should do the meet. Hell yes you are only competing against your self. You can triple more than the record and you enjoy doing it so go and have fun. Im not sure what the problem is are you afraid someone is going to laugh and make fun of you… that has not been my experience with meets… go have fun do your best and enjoy the sport you have chosen.

Same advice for you bulldog… just do the meet it will be fun…

I think I will have to go back to my old suit for my upcoming meet. This new suit is just too tight. I may be able to break it in over time. Or if I lose poundage, it may work for me. My old suit is pretty substandard. It was given to me third-hand.

You lose poundage? Really? From where?

Glad to hear your spirit and energy came back.
Good Fortune at the meet!

DF: Yep. That’s the record. And it’s mine. When I started competing, it was easy to break the existing USAPL records because they were so low. Remember I lift masters. Just not that many small old ladies who want to compete at powerlifting.

Damutt: I’ve done six meets. My hesitation is my own expectations. Nothing else. Also, my coach cues me on depth when I’m on the platform. But I’m having a hard time feeling it in this new suit because it’s work to get there. After a few weeks of practice, I’m definitely getting better.

Ruglayer: I’m small and don’t weigh that much. But I carry a fair amount of fat that comes and goes depending on how clean I’m eating. My thighs are prepared to sustain me through any famine.

I’m 100% positive, and will put money on it, that you can hit depth just fine in gear lifting 200.

She might need throw 250 on there to hit depth:)

Training partner at a meet this weekend just missed 1047 for depth, because his gear is that tight. He can handle the weight just fine, he simply needs a very slightly looser suit to get down in.

How many weeks until the meet?

That used to be the case here as well. However, in the past year, three very strong women have made a come back on their 50’s. One of note is a lady by the name of Joy Burt. She hasn’t competed in years and suddenly did an open meet a couple of weeks ago at 57kg and 54 years old and got a 417 wilks raw. Years ago she set a world record pulling over 450lbs at 123. I don’t know what’s in the water lately but it seems like a good time to be a middle aged woman

I can’t wait to see how you do. You’ll adjust to the suit. The thing I find tough about doing more than singles in a suit is I get sloppy and start cutting the last couple high if I’m doing triples.

When are we going to see more video?

No kidding right? In '92 she had an equipped total of 470kg at 56 kg with a wilks of 553. It’s like seeing a legend come back to life. There must be something in the water in Newfoundland because they seem to produce a lot of big lifters.

I concur! I love that its your record too. Dominate Snap! You got it.

I’m glad that lifting raised your spirits. That middle-of-the-night brain activity is a real bitch.

Bench yesterday. In the old shirt. It went well.

Started with cuff stuff, DB rows, rear delts.

Flat Banch
10/45
5/55
3/60
3/65
1/75
2/85 in shirt to two boards
1/90 to one board
2/95 to chest
1/100
1/105
1/110

If I could get 110 lb. at my meet, I’d be thrilled. Have never hit that at a meet before.

Then seated row and tricep pushdown.

Gotta admit that my shoulder and forearm/bicep area were utterly trashed after the benching. Think I’ve got some serious tendonitis going on.

Benching is looking good snap.

The discussion above made me wonder what everybodys wilkds numbers are.
