Look at those wide stance stance squats and DLs! Very awesome. Have a great weekend and enjoy some good food.
always good to catch up!!
Keep up the great work!
Smart thinking to not obsess pre-meet! But no flapping? Sigh.
Cool on the PW meetup! I saw a bunch of y’alls will be at the meet this weekend. Awesome! Wishing you the best - i know you’ll kill it!
Lifting looks great snap, you’re going to kill it at your meet.
Pretty good training day. Except for the sumo DLs.
Squat
5/75
5/100
4/120
3/130
2/140
1/155 wraps
1/165 full gear
2/175
2/180
2/185
1/195
All solid. My coach videod the 195. Except he didn’t.
Reverse Band Squats
2/3/230
Sumo DL
5/135
1/180
Was supposed to do 3 x 3 x 180. But I could barely break the weight off the floor in this stance. I gotta say that I’m way frustrated with sumo pulling. I just can’t seem to line up right and initiate the pull with my hips down. I may go visit Push Me Pull Me’s coach after my next meet for a little instructional. I believe that all his lifters pull sumo. So he must know a thing or two about it.
ATG Front Squats
5/45
5/65
3/5/85
GMs
3/5/80
Lying Hammie Curl
2/8/90
My daughter did very well at her gymnastics meets this weekend. She’s moving to a new gym beginning today and moving to level 5. My son suffered a horrible hit at his hockey game, causing a concussion. Hmm.
Very solid training. Your meet performance is going to be strong, probably stronger than you anticipate.
I agree that sumo pulling is very picky. I’d love some coaching help with this lift too!
Bummer about your son. That concussion business is very worrying.

Yeah, most if not all of Ron’s lifters pull sumo. But of course, look at his body type and you know he’s built for sumo. I’m not sure why all his kids pull sumo, it might just be for the decreased ROM. There might be one or two taller kids who pull conventional.
So what body type is made for sumo, somehow, I don’t believe tall and long legs is…
Snap everything is looking good- nice work

So I’m dying to know. What is good girl/bad girl?[/quote]
How can you have reached this age and not know the answer to this?
Just kidding.
These terms refer to the seated hip adduction (pushing legs apart and, hence, “bad girl”) and seated hip abduction (squeezing legs together and, hence, “good girl”).
Just to clarify about sumo. I want to become proficient with this lift but not because I ever anticipate it will replace conventional pulling for me. I expect I’ll always pull conventional on the platform. I’m way stronger in this stance.
great job on the 240 dl! YAR!
sorry about your son! ouch! but congrats for your daughter! oh gymnastics…
such a cool family !

Hey what’s your reason for working the ATG squats? I thought you were already way too deep and flexible in your squats?

Oh dear. I’ve been caught in a contradiction. You’re right, Arachne. They were a somewhat pointless exercise and not part of the plan. I started doing them because I threw a snit about my sumo DLs not working out and just randomly decided to do front squats to the floor. My coach looked askance at me doing them. I know he wasn’t pleased. But he kept his mouth shut.
Very perceptive, my dear.

Ms. Snap, I don’t want to be that guy, but the irony of your post is too cute(?) for me to resist. You have it backwards!!!
(think of "add"ing to your body)
Be that guy. There’s nothing wrong with pointing out an error. Thanks for the correction.
Snap, thanks for your bench advice concerning leg drive…I tried to focus on tight glutes just skimming the bench tonight and was able to add 10lb to my PR. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge.

hope your son is OK?

I hope he recovers quickly and doesn’t take another hit for a good long time.

I would say “because they made me feel good” is a perfectly valid reason!
