Strong Little Snapper

Yeah that 185 was plenty deep, nice squatting.
username42 wrote:
Real good depth on the squat. So is that a squat suit or did you borrow Joe’s onsie? Also that was a great crotch shot. She has some really good lookin legs.
Joe and I are not sharing gear. That is a squat suit I’m wearing. I’ll be sure to give that girl your number the next time I see her, UN42.

with the sumo stance on squats…

is the compression gear what makes this optimal, or is it feasible for raw divisions also?

with respect to pressure on your hips, i mean.

I have been training wide-stance squats raw every week for the last seven weeks and find that my strength is now about equal to my narrow-stance Oly-style squats. I actually expect my raw strength in this stance to surpass my narrow stance strength over time. Give them a try! Actually, it seems counterintuitive to me that anyone would pull sumo and not squat wide stance at a competitive level since they seem to be complementary to each other just like conventional and narrow-stance squats are complementary to each other and use the same muscles.

Short answer to your question: raw wide-stance squats are viable.

good skwattin!

“Joe and I are not sharing gear.”

Yeah I look terrible in blue…

I think your squats , both raw and equipped are fine. You do need a bit more speed IMHO.

I love my F’n pullups too!

Alexus, the equipment helps with wide stance work simply by protecting the hips a bit - I can’t squat and DL very wide for high volume without having sore hips, and the equipment helps keep them from aching. I can, however, squat and DL wide just fine without equipment - just not for a ton of volume/frequency.

I hear that about speed from my coach all the time. I actually feel more in control when I go really slow. But I probably don’t maximize the rebound I’d get from the gear when doing that.

Thanks for clarifying the wide-stance question, PMPM. You have WAY more experience than I do squatting like that.

Did my lower body accessory work today that I didn’t get in yesterday. GMs, lying hammies, standing calf. Threw in good girl/bad girl. And then decided to try front squats.

I had no problem getting my shoulder into position to hold the bar. But it fatigued after these sets.

great numbers for ‘decided to try’ lol.

hmm… looks like i need to practice some sumo squats. i get some tracking problem / sorta painful feeling in my hip standing them up unweighted. i figured it was because the suit helps hold your hips together and i’ve never seen anybody do a sumo squat without gear so i decided not to worry about it.

had this clicky / sorta painful / tracking problem kinda thing in my hips since i was a kid. some time on the bad girl machine / squatting / doing mobility work has them now being the best they have ever felt. every now and then i learn of some ROM / movement that should be comfortable that isn’t, though. looks like i’ve got some rehab / prehab to be doing.

thanks for that.

that squat looked really good Snap

Now I’m even more curious about front squats.

You should definitely give them a try. I’m going to vid them next time. I think I was trying to sit back too much today rather than just sit down as I believe is proper form with front squats. I was practically bouncing off the floor for these. Felt like old times getting that deep.

His opinion isn’t really all that humble truth be told  I hear the speed thing all the time.

It’s funny you’re going wider and I find myself going a bit narrower. My hips feel beat to shit at the moment.

Your 185 looked lovely. I can’t wait to see what you do next. Through on 2 plates. I don’t think that’s too far off.

Here’s the issue with speed. I traditionally have dive-bombed my squats. But I have a hard time staying tight and not dropping to the floor since my hips are so hyper flexible with a narrow stance. I don’t bounce up where most people do. That being said, I like the control I have with the wider stance. I’d like to explore it further.

A 2-plate squat would be a dream for me. The most I’ve ever hit is 200 in the gym and 198 on the platform. I’m hoping to squat more than 200 at my March meet.

Nice squats

Front squats FTW

PMPM thanks for explaining how gear works for you

Front squats rule.

I find that my abs get just as much a workout as my legs. I feel like I did 1000 situps the next day. Not that I’ve ever done 1000 situps, or even 100 (or even 10), but I imagine that’s what it would feel like if I did.

Between Steely’s comment here, and your anaology getting into your squat suit as like stuffing a twinkie into a condom, I have had a good laugh this morning, thanks you two, made my day

Your 185 squat was great, and I’m no expert, but if you did put a little more speed into it like BB and Ouro suggest, especially at the bottom portion, you would get a bit more pop out of the suit, I bet you would hit 225 in March. Again… I just got a squat suit :), but I have watched a lot of geared lifters

Oh… and that freakin’ idiot walking behind you in the middle of your deadlift… if he does it again, time it as he is walking by, lower the weight quickly, throw your nice little tush out there and hip check that s.o.b. Canadian hockey style right over that equipment behind you. What a goof.

Snap, are you doing any weighted ab work? Strong core will allow you squat big weights! Let’s hit that 225 FTW !!

No. I’m open to suggestions. I’m such a girl lazy with ab work. Your comments about strong core = strong squats motivate me.

Does the ability to do a standing ab wheel rollout equate to a strong core?

Because my squat still sucks.
