oh i always called those drop sets. they’re incredibly fun, in the pukeworthy sense of the word.

Yeah, they basically are drop sets, except with an emphasis on forcing lots of reps beyond your failure point at each weight. Pukeworthy, and liable to get you dirty looks from other gym-goers for all the noise you end up making during those forced reps. :slight_smile:

I already have “issues” with the height the bar comes up to when DLing. I can’t for the life of me figure out now not to crush stuff doing those bridges. The last thing I need is for the curl crowd to post a video on youtube of “The old fat guy who smashed his groin with a BB”

The only ab work I can talk my self into is weighted planks and that explains why I have abs of cheesecake.

Thighs are a tough issue. You clearly have low BF, but you must hold what little you have below the waist. Hey! Luckily for you, below the waist is exactly where you are currently limited to training! I see an opportunity here…

Rachelle, that forced rep, drop set scheme sounds DISGUSTING. But in a good way. On occasion, my trainer guy makes me do forced reps – actually we did some yesterday on pull-downs. I hate it, since I HATE to be helped. But if I get a training benefit thereby, I’ll get over myself and suck it up.

Maschy, deload is over! Bench and squats tomorrow. Then because my gym is closed Easter Sunday, I’m gonna have a hard time getting in my Week 2 deadlift. About which I am not happy. However, I have an oly bar at home, a nice kettlebell, a chin-up bar etc. If I can’t figure out something from that, then my lameness must negate any whining.

Time IS running out, Kimba. That is the truth! I have that sense more and more often and it causes me to panic a bit. Ahh, I feel like I’m talking to a therapist. Of course I want to be hotter. I’d be lying to say anything contrary. And, quite honestly, I think most people would consider me hot for my age . . . in a petite, wholesome-looking sort of way. Most people are surprised when they find out how, umm, old I am.

Yes, all of my bodyfat is in my thighs. Okay, some in the buttocks. But the thighs are my nemesis. If I lose weight, it tends to come off from the waist up, which is precisely where I DON’T need to lose it.

I hate it when life (work, holidays, children, etc.) gets in the way of my training. Hope you can get your DLs in, Kimba.

noticed the drop set talk…I do those with leg ext and leg curls, not that many of you do those… :wink:

you can do em with anything that is easy to ‘drop weight,’ quick since your not supposed to rest really…

regarding time: take each day as it comes and take time to enjoy the small things in life…like roses and coffee :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s one thing I’m looking forward to moving down to the flatlands, spring happens much earlier 4000 feet lower in elevation. And bike riding that doesn’t feel like it’s going to explode something.

yeaaah for Kimba and bike riding. can you believe they got over 3 ft of snow in parts of Tahoe this week? i might be headed back up for one more boarding trip…i thinks i should get me a bike for spring. been saying i want one. the thought of traditional cardio makes me want to vomit. bike makes me think happy thoughts.

Enough of this getting old stuff. You’re not most people; most people don’t take care of themselves, and you do. I worry myself about when I’ll cross that threshold from “getting better” to “getting worse” but I think there probably isn’t a hard-and-fast line. (Also I want to get my prodigal youth in FAST before I get old enough that it’s an embarrassment.)

They have helped allot with lockouts, and I feel the results on squats that and my jeans dont fit.

or one arm db deadlifts? two pretty decent different moves.

I train abs to keep uprtight hanging leg raises are the shit. but only if you do feet to face

George, bike riding is way better not at elevation. Your instincts here are perfectly correct.

T, bike riding is fun. But I worry about the safety of riding in your area. Beautiful, but so few roads that aren’t busy! Maybe a mountain bike??

Alisa, thanks for the positive thoughts. Its a youth-oriented culture, remember. Its easy to get caught up in that when, really. What’s the point? Time waits for no woman. :slight_smile: As an aside, I used to scoff at women who Botoxed, facelifted, spent $$ on wrinkle creams and such. Now I totally get it – still not doing it, but I understand. As a further aside, perhaps buying that 10x magnification makeup mirror was an error.

85# 1 x 5 <–working. This felt heavy. This SHOULDN’T HAVE FELT HEAVY!
100# 1 x 5 <–working. Heavy.
110# 1 x 3 ← weak money set. 3? Seriously???

85# 5 x 5 <–Just to try and salvage a bit of pride. The weight actually felt less heavy a few sets into this, then I just barely squeaked out the last couple.

I could blame this on getting to the gym VERY late at night after a hard day at work. But I won’t. Mentally and physically just not my night.

Bench Press
Bar 1 x 5 warmup
60# 1 x 5 <–working
70# 1 X 5 <–working
80# 1 x 2 <–another weak-ass money set. I should be able to do 6

The less said about this, the better.

25# dumbbell behind head 3 x 10 ← PR +2.5#

Something good finally came out of this miserable training. I tried the 25# plate, but it was just too awkward for my small-sized head. The dumbbell fits neatly around my neck.

I am seriously eyeing the micro plates. My strength is improving snail-like, and 5 pound increments just might be too much.

Cal’s 10 pushup/ 1 kettlebell swing (12 kg/26.4 lb), progressing to 1 pushup/10 kettlebell swings workout.

This totally kicked my ass. I got all the pushups (10/9/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 = 55 pushups) but that HURT. Cal you are a killer!

It was interesting rowing the kettlebell v. the dumbbell. I rather prefer kneeling on a bench (lower back is more comfortable) but I don’t have a bench at home…yet.

Just practicing form. Got as low as I could.

And then it was off to Easter dinner (lamb, ham, roasted asparagus, new potatos, flourless chocolate cake, lemon tart). Delicious.
