Still training over the holidays.
Diet has been decent (outside of a few glasses of vino, some baileys and crackers & cheese --not all together of course).
I’m a pretty solid 195 right now.
Highlights of this weeks training: Seated DB Presses ( 4 x 10 @ 75lb’s), Incline DB’s ( 4 x 7 x 90lb’s --up from last week) and some pulling.
Seems GRIP might be an issue for me when pulling.
Here’s a vid of some pulling this week (done @10pm -2nd workout of the day) (Foot stomp for Kev)
Any feedback is welcome.
I think if you gave it a more aggressive Kevin stomp, you would have had that last one ![]()
Nice work!
6 lb bw gain in 7 days. I want some of what your eating.
Pull looked good to me. You’ll get it next time.
The DL was very clean.
The best thing I did for grip was high rep deads (8-12 range) when I did 531 way back when. I also read that Bolton fixed his grip issue by doing low rep, max effort above the knee box pulls.
Oh man that 465 flew up, I thought you had that shit!
I agree about high rep deads but I don’t know how those would fit into your programming. I’m digging my fat grip pull ups too and you could also do dead hangs for time. Unfortunately there’s no way you would have gotten that if your grip wasn’t solid. Do you use straps for anything? If so then consider stopping that practice until your grip gets up to speed.
You’re definitely looking solid and a solid 198 is pretty big.

Up - For sure bigger foot stomps FTW
Yonkey - Really its only been added carbs to my first and/or second meal plus around the workout protocol.
Git - I’ll add some heavy rack pulls to try and improve the grip situation. Not sure high rep deads will fit within my current program.
Matty - So close!
James - Part of my grip issue is around the tendonitis I have in my right arm. I use straps when things are bad with the tendonitis but generally try to avoid them. The Fat Gripz are great for my forearms but they kill my tendonitis in anything where I’m pulling.
500 better look the F out.
What better way to end a shitty year then to KILL your legs!
A. Calf Raises - 6 x 10 + 5 partials
B. Lying Ham Curls - 4 x 8 w/ 1 sec squeeze
C. SKWATS
5 x bar/95/135/185/225/275/295/315
5 x 335
3 x 335 **form sucked on 3rd rep so cut this set short
D. Leg Press w/Doubled Mini Bands
15 x 5pps/6pps/7pps
12 x 8 pps
8 x 9pps **brutal
E. Extensions w/ 2 sec squeeze - 4 x 8
F. SLDL - No lockout
12 x 195/245/295
Feeling great.

Strong pulling, well done.
If your right hand is the weak one, have you tried going supinated with the right on your max attempts? I switch grips like you seem to do, and the supinated hand seems less likely to falter for me personally.
Hell of a way to end the year. Solid work!

JEEZ, Todd. That’s some awesome deadlifting. The 465 is yours, not soon but now.
Answer me something. How much a difference is the belt?

I think it helps a great deal. Keeps my core tighter when I take air into my belly and push out against the belt. I don’t notch it all the way (like I would on a heavy squat single).
2012 - Insanity
Did some active recovery cardio January 1. Had yesterday off so did some fasted AM cardio and then hit shoulders in the PM.
Yesterday was ri-DONK-ulous at the gym (both at 8am and at 4pm). Please give up already so I can have the weights back.
Shoulder session was:
Reverse Machine Flyes
Seated DB laterals
Seated MP
Seated HS OHP
Reverse Cable Flyes
Destroyer Set
Hit 4 x 12 x 115 on Seated MP. Felt pretty good about that.
Weight is steady at 196. I think I’m going to bring it back under 190 and see where that puts me in terms of lean-ness.
That 465 came up fast.
I am not amped about how bad the gym is going to be today.
Damn so close on that dead, you’ve got that in the tank for sure.
BTW looking thick in the video. Strong bastard.
What was that cigar? Been smoking a lot of El Cubanos by Manny Lopez, he’s out of Houston, they’re the shit!
Sorry late to the party. Awesome on the Deads. If I may ininiate the start of your lift with squeezing the bar as hard asd you can then push belly out and drive the legs. Helps a lot. If grip really is an issue Kroc Rows or high rep Shrugs with a lot of weight with all different grips.
Happy New Year.
465 will be mine soon. Probably next week. Plan on doing some Snatch Grip today and go back to conventional next week.
dday, cigar was a Cuban Montecristo #2. Scotch was a 16yr old Longmorn Single Malt, Beer was Alexander Keiths and Tequila was Patron Gold.
Not a bad way to wring in the New Year.

Thanks Fischer.
I will cue those up next go at it. Right now when I pull this is what runs through my head.
Flat Back.
Weight on Heels.
Pull Backwards.
I’m pretty good at that now so those other cues will certainly help.
Thanks again and Happy New Year.
