Some musings

You know when you get that dull pain?

My shoulders are sending a message. If I do innocuous shit like lift my kids then I feel it.

If I bench heavy then not a peep.

Crazy.

I’ve always found that injury occurs during light work. You’re never fully prepared or braced. You’re vulnerable

My head is telling me that I need to listen however my iron heart is saying ā€˜fuck that noise’

Musing 2

Had a wee altercation in another log.

Some guy jumping in and giving unsolicited advice without taking on board the efforts of the log owner

A guy who’s likely never posted a photo or progress in here

Guys I’m going to let yous in on something

Years ago I met a poster in here who was almost revered

Said guy had never posted a pic despite being asked countless times

When I met the guy I wasn’t bowled over by his presence at all. I was expecting a mass monster yet remember at the time feeling underwhelmed.

Purely because the level of information they were giving was grade A

Ever since then I’ve been weary of folk who give advice on T-Nation yet have never offered a photo or video in the check in thread, to back up their knowledge.

I don’t give a flying fuck what anyone says. You need to show and prove your worth. This is an aesthetic endeavour and you need to show that you follow your own advice.

That’s why there is a check in thread.

I respect anyone who puts themselves out there, regardless of looks and numbers.

Yeah Andy Baker and Dave Tates are fans of rotating 1RM precisely because of this, you’re more braced.

I’d say listen yo your head man! One week light or adding some external rotation/rotator cuff/serratus work won’t kill your gains, but if you get hurt it won’t benefit your bench nor your wee ones.

Trust me I’m in the same boat right now. I’m sad and with a drop in confidence. Do you think i want to deload next week? No I want to lift heavy and feel awesome! But what if my chest don’t heal and I hurt myself?

Amen!

I don’t necessarily agree. There are plenty of ppl who look amazing but have no business giving advice and there are some who have every right to give advice but don’t look the part (ie coach burgner or that Chinese swim coach who coached gold medalists but can’t swim)

But yes, for the most part, your point stands

Yeah @anna_5588 mate I kinda agree with you however those coaches still put themselves out there

They’re not faceless fucks bumping their gums on Internet forums

This isn’t disagreeing at all: that is the very definition of showing and proving your worth.

Results matter: not words.

They have evidence to back their claims: good enough for me.

I misinterpreted

Coming from a guy who has had multiple shoulder surgeries (can provide pictures if required lol) and who’s shoulders feel quite good now, never any dull pain anymore … I’d try reducing overhead work and see if that helps. The worst for me were weighted chin-ups and jerks. Most my pulling comes from rows now and I feel a million times better. I’ve just recently added in overhead again but with a neutral grip and no leg drive, been feeling really good.

Are you talking about that guy who always posted pics of Carlton from the Fresh Prince?

Most likely a dude who is smarter than the aver-age poster.

No @vision1 my man. Fuck knows who that is :joy:

I forget his name but he had a popular log on here. Guy went from having the strength of a middle school kid to being an absolute beast in 2-3 years. His workouts were high volume, repping bench in the mid 300s, cleans in the mid 300s, squats and deads in the 500s, back flips, etc. He kept promising a picture or video but they never came and then when people started calling him a phony, he just disappeared.

That’s my elbows right now. My triceps tendons feel like tiny steel cables and ache all day.

Yeah, this is an interest where your physique and performance matter. It’s not like team sports where you suck but become a great coach because you study the game.

The gold medals give him status. One could pull that off here but it would be tough breaking into the physique industry if you looked small and weak. How would you attract clients? One you showed success then you’d be fine but it would be an uphill start.

Oh, man, you missed an epic exit from T-Nation. Dude seemed super nice and everyone was happy for him. His downfall was promising pictures and stalling. A couple of our regulars turned on him. His name was isdatnutty.
