A little part of me is thinking “that sounds fucking sweet”. But that’s the part that’s been working like crazy during lockdown and in the run up to Christmas. The rest of me realises that sounds like hard fucking work.

Hey buddy, coming really late to the conversation, but what you said about your physique goals having a negative impact on your missus’s feelings really resonated. It is something that I am going through with my wife at the moment. She has told me that she is almost deliberately not training and/or eating ‘on plan’ (whatever that might me) as a conscious counterpoint to show me that you don’t have to be lean to be happy. Like you, it is difficult for me to reconcile, because I have my own demons, but trying to explain my getting lean is not some effort to get attention from the fairer sex (I’m happy in my marriage and genuinely feel like I lucked out); getting lean is only really my attempt to quieten my inner anxiety.
it is tough.
Sorry if I’ve pulled the conversation back to this, but it sounds like you have made your decision and if it keeps your home in equilibrium then you’ve made the right one.

Not at all mate, it’s a good conversation.

I wouldn’t explain myself personally regarding getting lean as a way to increase female attention because the female mind will twist that to suit their own insecurities and give them even more reason to feel that their justified in their thinking.

You have to weigh up the pros and cons ultimately. Is it worth the emotional fallout?

For me, no because

a) I was actually unhappy with my results
b) I love my food and eating more
c) I would have started to resent my missus even more which would lead to pain.
