That thread is just a bunch of mental masturbation.

My style of training is constantly evolving.
Mostly due to managing recovery and input/ideas from my friends on here
I am a big fan of @antiquity ’s log, more precisely his ability to convey information in a manner which is easy to digest.
He mentioned that he was using ‘barbells for strength work’
This was another lightbulb moment for me.
Today I took his words on board and during my gym session, decided to work up to a rep max.
I was pleased to bang out 100kg on the bench as I haven’t benched in a while. It flew up.
I’ve been hitting the gym 4 times a week and doing 2 lifts however with this new idea on board, will most likely limit it to 3 visits.

Sad to say however I think my back squatting days will be consigned to the back burner
I don’t have the mental strength to squat anymore, especially in my gym visits a which are heavily limited by time due to family and finishing work late.
I’ve also been focusing on high rep leg work and have defiant seen some growth.
Lunges and goblet squats don’t demand the same emotional investment that heavy back squats do.
My training volume will remain the same
Barbells for strength
Bodyweight/Kettlebells/Weight Vest for fatigue resistance/conditioning
The final piece of the puzzle is running. I’m trying to figure out how I can slot this into my schedule. I have faith that I will work something out
I’ve been toying around with this format:
Strength days focused around minimalistic barbell work, with “supplement/assistance” done as weight vest and/or KB focused work. Not just swings, but KB front squats, presses, etc… done with weighted dips and pull ups. Get in morning burpees a few hours earlier and some evening bodyweight work if possible.
Conditioning days focused around some type of running. Usually burpees+sprints, a fast 1.5 miler, or an LSS run. Get in morning KB work or bodyweight work. I prefer evening mobility work here, as I’m stiffer after running.
This has allowed me to get in some conditioning and strength work daily, but keeping the barbell work and hard running capped at 3x a week for each. The burpees, bodyweight work, and KB work are easy to scale, easy to recover from, and can be adapted to quick burners.
Appreciate it. I’ve taken to the “just get it done and quit overthinking” approach you’ve been doing and gotten a ton of ideas from this log and others.
