Strength Training and Rugby

Hi CT,

I was just wondering if you have and rugby players that you train and if so what sort of strength program do you have them on? I assume it would be some version of the layer system?

I remember you saying in the past that you have played rugby before. If you were to begin playing again, how would you train?

I have worked with several rugby players. We did use the layers with the olympic lifts. The basic strength work (which I was not responsible for) was more “regular” strength work (they had 1-2 olympic lifting sessions per week).

Would a program more similar to your 3,3,3,6,6,6 be more appropriate? would it be best to program 4 strength/power days and 1/2 days for conditioning (I have access to tyres and a prowler)?
