Strength = Size?

Oh my god this thread is getting even worse.

I think the Dave Gulledge link should’ve ended this “Fat or Lean” bullshit.

X, alot of pussies don’t have the dedication and balls to all out bulk to as big as they can genetically be. So why try and argue and preach the whole “Bulk and Cut” bid? No point. They won’t listen. They’re stupid. They think creatine can cause high blood pressure. And they go to doctors who had to look up what a creatine is on the internet. Need I say more?

Fucking trolls.

Oh and X, do update us on the cut…

Interesting how you don’t think that creatine can cause high blood pressure. You are aware that for alot of people the water they retain with creatine causes their BP to go up. Simple and understandable.

I noticed a perfect example of proof for this thread yesterday in the gym.

Theres one guy that works out ther, Ive seen him many times. He’s definately the biggest guy around and leanest. If I had to guess, I’d say he is 6’3"" 275+ and maybe 5-8% BF. He’s a beast. Ive seen him bench ONCE. He was doing decent weight, something like 300 for maybe 10 reps. Nothing spectacular. Ive never seen him squat or deadlift, all I ever see him do is curls, RDLs, rows, tricep exts. etc. all with extremely light weigth and very high reps.

Now I dont doubt the guy is strong, because you are going to be strong simply from carrying that kind of weight around, and from whatever he’s on, but compare him to MANY other people in the gym and he is very weak for his size.

So the fact of the matter is that almost always, a bodybuilder is going to be weaker than a pl’er or strongman of equal size. Thus discrediting the notion that strength=size. ALMOST ALWAYS

Bruce could have been alot bigger, but was always going for very cut, dried look for the screen. Also, he did a ton running work, bag work, etc. The guy was STRONG! Also, he hurt his back during sex, not while performing the good-morning exercise.

And the OP of this tread should be kicked in the balls. But that’s just MHO, and only that.

RIP Arturo Gatti

Correlation does not imply causation.

Any case studies?

A February 2000 study by Mark A. Tarnopolsky, MD reported in an issue of Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise found there to be no link between creatine and high blood pressure.
According to Tarnopolsky, creatine had no effect on blood pressure, kidney function, or handgrip strength. It did, however, significantly increase the fat-free mass and total body mass with no changes in body fat for all subjects – with much greater changes found in the men than the women.

Were there any surprises? “Yes,” says Tarnopolsky, “the fact that the females didn’t increase as much as the males in lean mass.” Tarnopolsky is an associate professor of medicine in neurology/rehabilitation and kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
I do not have the abstract or a link to it at the moment.

You saw a big bodybuilder bench press one fucking time and assumed this was all he ever did to get that big?

So, when I write that I am using a little less weight now for biceps, if you saw me in the gym, you would assume this was ALL I could do?

WTF? Why do you try to give advice so much?

Creatine could possibly be linked to HBP regardless of whether there is proof or not. It may not be the cause, but if you are taking creatine, you are likely lifting heavier weights, and may be getting more reps, thus your BP goes up. Not a direct cause, but it would be related

This is sort of the same relation as getting stronger and getting bigger. Getting stronger will not make you heavier or bigger, but its likely that if you are lifting weights to get stronger you are also eating to get bigger.

No, Ive seen him MANY times over the past year or so, and this was my observation. Sure, there is always the possibility that he’s doing heavy squats and deadlifts every time im not there, but ive never seen it.

The point I wanted to get across in this thread; which very few people are stressing, is that size (or mass) is much more related to calorie intake than to strength. You can be very strong, but if you are only eating enough to weight 150lbs you will not be or get bigger… You can increase your BP 30%, but if you eat the same amount you will not get bigger. Sure, at very advanced levels, you will not be able to increase your strength without adding muscle, but for a lot of people this isn’t the case.

dankid, you’re a retart. You state specifically that you’ve only seen him bench once. And what if he doesn’t do heavy squats and deadlifts? Does that mean he didn’t do them previously to get to the size he is now?

Edit - Nevermind, I realize I’m just reiterating X’s point and you still won’t get it.

It’s becoming a pointless discussion… too many T-Nation meatheads too busy to discuss because it gets in the way of hitting the gym, ordering more supplements, and taking photos of themselves to post on the internet.

I hope you realize how much sense this post didn’t make. As in, it didn’t make any.

I think it makes sense. Plus, my intention was to piss some people off, which I think will work.

No…we’re just laughing at you again for thinking you actually make sense.

That’s obviously the climax of this thread.

What type of mass are you talking about? I can gain back all of my fat that I lost and MORE and become 250+lbs, but the fact that I can only lift pink dumbbells will make me look like a fat/obese couch potato AGAIN.

Sure it does.

It’s a false generalization, just like you (amoung others) calling people sissies/pussies and really not bothering to talk about size vs. stregnth intelligently. Actually I believe you posted a picture of yourself versus some other guy to prove your point which makes absolutely no real argument. Talk about not making any sense.

If you want to laugh at me go back to what I orgionally posted about it and tell me why it’s funny. You had almost nothing of value to say.

Let me guess, you’re going take a picture of your bicep flexed in the mirror to prove your point.

Your statement was a walking contradiction. First you say it’s a pointless discussion, then say we’re all too busy to discuss anything.

Booyah, score 1 for the non-gheys!

Yeah, my brother was wondering why I post so many photos of myself when I am just a small little fatass, but “to each his own” I say.
