Strength Crusade

^ Drats! Can’t see the vid yet…I’ll check back.

Anyways, thank you so, SO much for sharing that story! Everything you mentioned from trying to find the motivation to train while injured, to the rehab process and afterward - Its just helpful for me to hear what other athletes have experienced. We’re a different ilk than just regular people (lol @ my high and mightyness). And that’s a really good tip about finding a PT that knows about injury and sports/weight lifting…I’ll have to be sure to ask my surgeon about that!

You’re right, every time I injure myself, I do feel like I come back a bit stronger of body and mind. But this knee injury has been definitely hard to deal with. I’m glad to see that you’ve recovered and that you maintain a positive outlook on everything! You’re awesome! Thanks again.

LOL! Just saw the vid. That’s freaking cool! I’ll have to try that. And yeah, Molly’s vid skills are phenomenal. HAH! Tell her I say HI!

Masch- I’m glad it was useful. You got this! Lifting is a lifetime process, so you have plenty of time! I’ll defintely tell Molly hi. She will love that.

P.S. Your back piece is awesome.

I see Mollykins!!

cool swingin… as kb weren’t challenging enough.

I started to catch up on your log then I saw that you were going to post the band kb swing video and I had to go see if it was up. I’m glad you posted it. I was a little curious about how you guys looped the band thru the kb. Will definitely have to do them this way next time.

Thanks for posting the vid. I need to get bands and more KBs. That looks stupid fun to me.

Your story is pretty awesome. And congrats on the post-op DL PR and NO KNEE PAIN. Sweet.

They are super fun. I hope you all try them.

Betty-This was just a demo that I did at the beginning of working out. At the end of a lowerbody workout, they are way killer and you don’t need that much weight to feel the ass burn! Plus, I don’t kill myself during energy systems work anymore. I’m finding that lazine…I mean moderation, is working for me right now.

Awesome video! I’m definitely stealing that. And I agree-your amount of level-headedness regarding training-like the Rafiki of lifting.

that was a very inspiring story. where there is a will there is a way, indeed.

Rafiki…I like that!

Tuesday night’s training:
Nice long mobility and foam rolling warm-up.

Snatch work:
Stick warm-up
Hanging snatches-
3x3xbar
4x2x30kg
4x0x40kg The coach said the pulls (I think this is the word he used. Not sure) looked amazing, but I wasn’t dropping under the bar. Kind of disheartening, but he said that the drop will come. The important thing was that everything else was on point. He said that we will do some heavy cleans on saturday to get more comfortable dropping under the bar.
Behind the neck pops-
2x3x40kg
Snatch grip rack pull with “jump” (The coach hates jump, but I can’t think of another word for it.)
-1x3x40kg
-1x3x50kg
-2x3x60kg

Wide grip inverted rows-3x6
scaptions-3x10x10lb dbs
band resisted external rotations: 3x10

Your snatch is getting more and more impressive! Nice work!

Another Lefty here! And I have horrible handwriting.

I don’t know why I can’t see the video. I noticed that in Spidey’s log too. Technical difficulties.

Your comeback story is inspiring, indeed. LOL! at the Dr. asking if you use steroids. The stereotypes I suppose. I’m amazed at how many people have misperceptions about liftng.

I consider myself on the mend, rather than broken. I’ve spent a year and a half corrective lifting with Mike Robertson. I’m now on my way to being stronger and healthier than I’ve ever been. I am now all about the slow and steady approach.[/quote]

You are completely correct, broken is not the right word. I’m trying to get used to this positive thoughts about the body thing

Those band KB’s look fun, but yeah I might fall over if I tried them at the end of my workouts.

I completely understand when you use the word disheartening, lots of ups and downs with each session. But we can only work on one thing at a time, eh? Dropping fast under a big weighted bar goes against common sense and survival, so of course it’ll take some extra concentration, but you seem to have loads of that.

So far I’ve had to overcome jumping back too much and getting my hips to meet the bar. But think I’m over those according to my coach, now I have this mental block about getting the bar around my knees, hence we are working from hangs for the next couple of weeks. Got a big ole freaking bruise on my knee. But need to work on my wrist strength anyway, so that’s a focus. The beat goes on.

Man it takes a long time to catch up on logs after a whole weekend.
-Ironcross-Thanks. I still have tons of work to do on these. Hopefully, I can get the technique down better so that I can actually utilize my strength.

-Powerpuff-Yay for lefties and typing. No more bad handwriting issues. Yeah, physicians tend to specialize in acting like experts on things they know nothing about!

-minimaltechno-All that stuff sounds like stuff I’ve had to deal with too. Good point about getting under a heavy bar. I am trying not to be too hard on myself.

Saturday’s workout:
Honestly, I don’t remember everything. It’s been a few days. I should probably start writing stuff down when I’m there.

Hang cleans:
Worked up to 52kg, but I couldn’t do it. First I struggled getting under the bar. I finally got that, but I still wasn’t catching it because I wasn’t keeping my back together. It will come in time. It was only 2 months ago that I thought the bar was overwhelming. So it will all come in time!

Finished with ball leg curls supersetted with facepulls.

Then I did 5 rope pulls tied to a sandbag.

late to the party but congrats on those strong deads

Great attitude about the hang cleans. I think that right there is what distinguishes you as an experienced lifter

^Thanks. What you see is me trying hard to convince myself of these things. I still get very frustrated about it. I’m working on being mindful of perspective.

Nice training! You’re already snatching some impressive weight there! Same with the cleans. Good stuff!

You already know yourself that you shouldn’t be hard on yourself re: the dropping - but I’ll reiterate that it took me a few good months to get that down (like 4 or 5, lol!), and now its actually one of the components of the snatch that I’m better at (the clean not so much). There’s just so much to keep an eye out with the O lifts!

Anyways, a few things i did on my spare time to get used to dropping under the bar was to do a few drop snatches during warm up, and also to do some drop snatches with a stick in front of my chest, almost replicating where you’d be in the 2nd extension (with elbows up and back and shoulders shrugged). Then once I was able drop under the bar with weight, it was more of a matter of visualizing not just a drop, but a drop and a PUSH against the bar once you’re under it.

Anyways, I know you have a coach who will tell you precisely what to do (which is awesome and a HUGE benefit), but even with my coach, its been helpful to hear what other O lifters have to say, how they visualize the lift and their technique, etc. I hope I don’t confuse you with my commentary!! If so, just tell me to shut it, lol!

With that said, I’m curious, why does your coach not like to call it a ‘jump’?

Masch-This was awesome commentary. It is helpful to know that I’m not alone in my beginner struggles. I think you’re right. I need to force myself to drop while keeping back tight with the stick and lighter weights to get used to the motion. I think I get kind of lazy with lighter weights because I don’t have to drop to finish the lift. Commentary welcome. Sometimes it’s just the wording of something that can make all the difference of “getting it” or not. I will also start to drop and push.

He doesn’t like jump because he feels that it cues people to go into a traditional jump off the toes. He wants me to think about bringing my hips and chest up so hard that momentum lifts me off the ground, keeping my foot balance. He is now saying “jump with the chest” to cue it. He just made a big deal of it at first so that I did take on a traditional jump.

By the way, your log is full. Could you get on starting a new one pronto??? I wanted to comment on your smashing pics, but there was no room :frowning: You look freaking awesome. I think I may try to get some pics and measures up soon. I’m not anywhere near as lean as you and many of the other ladies that are here, but I am all about being proud of the body you have! If you want to tweak it that’s great, but respect what you got regardless.

know what the difference is between God and a Doctor?

God doesn’t think he’s a doctor.

teehee.
