New self titled album came out late last month, anybody checked it out? The “critics” have been mixed on it but I usually dont put much weight into what they have to say. Said its inspired by 60’s and 70’s country and rock which I’ll admit doesnt have me too excited but will still give it a chance.
I listened to samples of all the tracks… and it’s not what you might expect. No more heavy riffs.
Overall it’s not bad if you don’t compare it to their old stuff.
I’ll probably buy it anyway. Sometimes an album can grow on you and surprisingly become a favorite.
Yeah I know what you mean, I bought Alice in Chains album that came out last year and didnt know what to expect from them without Lane but was really surprised and its one that I can listen to all the way through. Hopefully STP’s new one will be one of those kind of albums. Watched the video for “Between the Lines” seemed like Weiland was kinda had a Bob Dylan tone going on.

This.
Rock critics used to talk about the versatility of certain vocalists. I think it was David Bowie who always got labeled “chameleon” for his ever-changing persona.
But I can’t think of a single other rock vocalist who is as brilliantly versatile as Scott Weiland. Over the course of STP’s career, he’s sounded like Eddie Vedder, John Lennon, Richard Butler (Psychedelic Furs), Jim Morrison, Brian Wilson, Pat DeNizio (Smithereens), David Bowie, and more… all without sounding self-conscious.
