Stop Eating the Yolks

Science has finally proven it will speed up heart disease

LULz (for those that think I’m being serious)

“And while he says more research should be done to take in possible confounders such as exercise and waist circumference,”

A small problem…I did laugh at egg yolk years.

I guess my wife and I will be dead by next month since we go through 4 dozen a week

Last I heard, Caveman101 was up to 30 or so a day. I sure am gonna miss that guy.

EDIT: From the abstract:
“This hypothesis should be tested in a prospective study with more detailed information about diet, and other possible confounders such as exercise and waist circumference.”

Yes please. Next time, let’s see how fat and out of shape the study participants are before we come to a result. M’kay?

Oh dangit, guess I best stop eating meat, eggs, and fish in favor of that soy stuff, and bread gotta love that bread…

ooooh, soy bread. You can even boast gluten-free on it.

I came to this forum just to post this article but you beat me to it. Note the “men and women, with a mean age of 61.5” which means they are already probably have a lifetime of accumulated fatassery. I want to see this study performed on 1,231 men and women in peak physical condition.

Good thing I’m not Canadian:

“What we have shown is that with aging, plaque builds up gradually in the arteries of Canadians, and egg yolks make it build up faster – about two-thirds as much as smoking. In the long haul, egg yolks are not okay for most Canadians.”

lol what is peak physical condition? Do you honestly think 1231 people are there? Year around? and is that the requirement to eat eggs?

Seems like the forums are starting to become anti-establishment instead of pro-body. Maybe an honest assessment of eggs, their pro’s and cons (what food matches up well) would be more beneficial then saying all studies are false because you like eggs.

Conclusion: don’t smoke and eat yolks.

That’s a serious yolking habit.

Oh darn, I’m doing it wrong.

My biggest problem isn’t the indictment of egg yolks it is that it’s not looking at the big picture. If we look at a generally sedentary population who eat more egg yolks per year, then they probably also take in more total calories per year.

Egg yolks can be part of a crap diet or a good diet. They just happen to be one variable.

How else is one to get yolked?

This is terrible news since My chickens are just starting to lay.

Although, my chickens it lots of veggies and bugs and run around all day, so, maybe that makes a difference.

It will. Their carotid arteries will remain blessedly free of plaque. Your chickens do not need to fear atherosclerosis.

The study failed to mention that the people ate cigarettes and smoked eggs.

lets take a bunch of obese smokers over the age of 60 that are already in heart attack prevention clinics and live off of chips, pop, and twinkies, and give them some egg yolks in the morning, and then make a study saying that the egg yolks clogged their arteries.

Perhaps the people that don’t smoke for the health of it and exclude egg yolks from their diet also do other things that they have been taught over the years to be healthy?

Can anyone access the full study?

I am always interested to see who sponsors studies when the author draws a direct link from a loose correlation.

Really preliminary stuff. It doesn’t even take into account body fat or lifestyle influences. Loose correlation at best.
