I here a lot about why younger people (under 21 {probably 90% of T-Nation…}) shouldnt use steroids or “proto steroids” like halodrol or orastan a/e etc. Are there any documented sources anyone can cite of a young weightlifter abusing anabolic/ergogenic aids and suffering prolonged negative affects. As most of you know, if used responsibly, negative aspects of steroid abuse can be easily reversed in a mature male. Though a young adult is still maturing whats to say his system cannot bounce back as readily. Please dont respond with here say, studies or first hand experience would be helpful.
Even though you want Studies or first-hand experience, I want to offer my opinion.
I would think that being younger would allow you to “bounce back” quicker than someone who is older. The issue with younger people is that if they haven’t fully finished growing that it might stop some aspects. I think that the problem with younger people using AAS is that they are not mature enough (mentally) a lot of times and do stupid shit socially. If someone was “grown up”, mature about things, didn’t abuse them, knew what they were doing, had their nutrition down, then why not.
I appreciate your comment. As I personally started relatively young I often find it difficult to definitively tell a young lifter that he would be stupid to start at 18. Like mentioned in earlier articles AAS can be the ace card and you can play it when its most adventageous to you.
If the young lifter has his diet in order, a well structured lifting regiment, a solid build, and a healthy head I wouldnt find it irresponsible to guide him in his anabolic endeavors. But I would certainly not encourage use to a young adult or anyone for that matter as this definitely needs to be a personal choice.
If you have hung around and spent more than a few weeks researching this, you would have seen the posts first hand.
I dont have the resources to find the actual threads but every month or so we get a kid in here or on another board or two with the classic…
“Help, i screwed up”
“Dude, im growing tits”
“I screwed up and now i have no sex drive”
We have had fathers of kids, brothers of kids and best friends come in here looking for assistance to get their friends back to normal.
Long term effects, I can probably guarantee that every single one of them have a long term issue that they regret, be it gyno, libido or even stress issues, they are there.
Do yourself a favor. Hang out and research and no doubt you will come to the right conclusion.
Besides, its not like you have any obligation to listen to internet advice to begin with. Its gonna come down to what you want to do and if you can find enough stories to support your decision.
Regards

Lets be real. Is this not unlike the overblown negative affects of marijuana often spouted to our youth? Telling every youth theyre going to never get it up again and have a nice set of bitch tits is just ignorant. Isnt this site here to help dispell certain myths invented by the media?
You are spouting the same stuff that the media is spouting. Sure there are inherent dangers with steroid use but as you should well know only with a percentage of the population. If a 17 year old has a high propensity toward estrogen conversion he will likely still have that problem as a 25 year old.
All Im trying to say is lets keep an open mind about things. I feel strongly becuase I am not one of the “poster boys” as you would like to call it for why you shouldnt use steroids as a 17 year old. I didnt go crazy, I didnt get bitch tits, and I didnt kill anybody. Three years later Im healthy, happy, natural, and still lifting.
Bro, you are trying to say we are spewing the same shit the media does, right? Well, for the record, I think your wrong. People on here are not spewing the same stuff as the media, because we have first hand real world experience with it. What people on here are saying, is these hormones are powerful and there use shouldn’t be taken lightly. Is that fair enough?
- deca dick is not a myth, nor is steroid induced shutdown. we can quote all the studies we want, but there are not very many. most are case reports and not very applicable to generalization.
people vary greatly in the amount of shutdown they experience as there is more than one feedback loop which is working. i have seen people do 8-10 week cycles of 400-500mg of test and eq per week with orals such as var, winny, tbol thrown in and recover within a week of being off with no more than 20mg nolva per day. i have also seen people use half that for half the time and require serious PCT for 4 or more weeks to recover.
lesson: individual results and reactions vary, cover your ass and have proper PCT ready
- any young person i have met that has training, diet, and their head in order is already successful usually and steroids are usually the last thing on their minds. now, just about every guy i have met under 25 in the last decade has though that he has his diet and training in order even when all evidence is to the contrary. “i only drink a couple nights a week, pizza is healthy because it has all the food groups, etc.”
lesson: don’t trust anyone under 25 to give you an accurate appraisal of their habits. scratch that, don’t trust anyone period, it called cognitive dissonance.

Curious - did you keep your gains?
As a matter of fact I did keep roughly 60% of my gains. Im goin to stack hemadrol and orastan a in a few weeks and ill keep everyone posted as I am still under the recommended age for hormone boosting. BTW orastan a is equal to winstrol apparently only licensed by gaspari to be sold overseas…
My first cycle was was 25 years ago, I was 17 years old and a junior in high school, at least 15 of my teammates were on them too. I was “on” more than I was off for the next 2 or 3 years. I still do an occasional well planned cycle.
I have 6 healthy kids and have no health problems, my libido I would consider to be very high all the time, never had any problems getting an erection or any other problems, I have a full head of very thick hair. For me personally, I can’t think of one negative steroid use has caused for me.
You’re a very lucky and genetically gifted guy. I worry more about those who aren’t as lucky or genetically gifted.

I think he was asking about young as in chrologicly not knowledgelly(I made that up)
So what about the AAS’s of today such as methyl-drol, what can that do to 17 yr olds if they dont “abuse” it ?

Isn’t using also abusing? But I understand what you are saying, and these forums are filled with kids that try designer steroids that are legal, and have problems after the cycle. Usually Gyno.
It seems most people think because they use a legal steroid that is legal because of loop holes in laws, they can use an over the counter PCT and that is not the case. Most of these designer “legal” steroids require prescription drugs for PCT; letrozole, tamoxifene, clomid, etc.
This guy used Masterdrol and ended up with gyno months later. Luckily he got some letrozole and fixed it:

Not sure about any other problems related to designer steroid items, but I have heard of sever back pain, blackouts, dizzy spells, stuff like that.
I have talked to several high school kids about steroid use, I always tell them the truth, I also tell them that they can make a lot more positive gains just by eating and training properly.
I truly beleive I have helped a few kids decide against steroid use. I also tell them if they do decide to go that route anyway, please consult me, and I will help them in any way I can. The reason it is still a problem in high school is because last years studs that go on to play in college come home during school breaks a lot bigger and tell the kids how they got that way, and give them steroids. If you take the time to talk to these kids, it will scare you how little they know about what they put into their body. One kid told me he was gonna go on Winstrol because he only wanted his legs to get bigger, and that’s what Winstrol does, it is a leg only steroid. Anyway, I think we are doing kids a huge disservice to just tell them you don’t need steroids yet, because they will just use them anyway. You’ve got to take an interest in teaching them the truth.
Another point to consider, the seventeen year old that takes the time to come on here and ask some really dumb questions about using steroids is really the smarter one, most won’t even go that far, they take what their buddy has or whatever someone will sell them. So take the time to give these “idiots” a honest answer, without totally humiliating them, and maybe you could really help someone.

I haven’t really thought about it like that before, and I agree with your point…but you should see some of the questions that come up on this board from time to time. If they’re the smart ones, I don’t want to meet the dumb ones.
