Fraid not,

Alex Smith went to the University of Utah. Went to high school in San Diego with Reggie Bush… I believe in was Helix High.

His Uncle was John L. Smith the present Coach of Michigan State, he was also the Coach of Utah State University when I was a walk on there.

All around better team? Are you fucking kidding me? Pull up those records please… shut you up once and for all. List how many games the Steelers & the Cowboys won in the last 5 years, 10 years, 15 years. Would you like to see the results?

List the Cowboys record and the Steelers records ever since Bill Cower has been head coach… been coaching longer than any current coach in the league.

Yeah I know what team it is and who opperates it. Its Big Ben’s team. The same guy that beat Cin, Indy, and Den in the playoffs last year to win the superbowl against SEA in his 2 nd year.

Ok, Cowher’s been there how long? Fifteen years, more or less? In that time, how many Superbowls have the Steelers won? And the Cowboys? Please dude. Saying that they were better because they won more games is tantamount to saying that the Colts are the best team of the last five or so years, even though they’ve yet to even make it past the AFC championship. Look at wins and losses all you want. What really matters is getting to the big game and winning it. In that regard, the Cowboys are up 3-1. And since you insist on licking Ben’s ass, how about you total his numbers during those playoffs. He was terrible in the Superbowl all the way through yesterday. The Steelers run on offense and play sick defense. That’s why they won, not because of Roethlisberger.

And in case you don’t know what those stats are, he went 9 of 21 in the Superbowl for 123 yards and two interceptions (he scored on a RUN). So dude, seriously, stop riding his dick. The Steelers would have the same results with Charlie Batch at QB. They’re a running team. You should know this.

Roethlisberger is one of the most over-hyped players in recent history.

O.K. where was ? Yes… Big Ben.

Alright qb’s dont matter much huh? why is it that the Steelers could not win a superbowl or get a 15-1 season until Ben showed up. They’ve always had a stout defense ever since the begining of time. The two other things needed to win a superbowl are a strong offensive line to allow for a strong running game and time for the passing game to hook up… the Steelers had that line too.

What they didn’t have was the 3rd ingredient “A leader and superstar QB”, someone to lead the team and feel confident in. Someone to rely on when the line and def don’t get the job done. When Ben gets in trouble , those other two will step it up for him. The qb position is the most important on the team for the leadership and star qualities alone. Then he has to be great at it and run the offense and know how to win. Playing for a team with a star qb is more important than you think. Makes the entire team better. ie… Brett Favre, took his team to the big game and won.

I doubt you have a tenth of the talent that Ben has, yet he owns a superbowl ring at what 23 years old. Peyton has all the weapons and can’t get the job done… Peyton doesn’t know how to win the big game, Ben got it done. He carried that team as long as he could, the team carried him the rest of the way. Don’t ever call a young kid at 23 “just average” when he takes his team to a 15-1 record in his rookie year.

not much of a steelers fan but big ben is a beast, his performance yesterday is what he is really capable of. people critisize him but people forget he had major surgery not long ago so there is no way he was play up to full potential.

I’m not saying that qb’s don’t matter much. I just don’t think that, past Terry Bradshaw in the seventies, they matter much in Pittsburgh. Am I saying that I can step in and do what Ben has done? God no. I played a total of three months of football in high school, and I wasn’t very good. I’m not saying that the Steelers are a terrible team or that Roethlisberger is Neil O’Donnel (sp?). All I’m saying is that he’s better than Kordell Stewart and Tommy Maddox. He’s an ok player, but I don’t think that if you put him in an offense where he really has to carry the load that he’d be able to do it. He, as you said, has a good line and a great defense. Lucky him. It’s moot, anyway. I doubt we’ll ever see him play for a pass heavy team. I don’t know why everyone is taking such exception to this. It’s like the whole Vick situation in Atlanta. He’s an average QB. Put him somewhere else, and I think he’ll fail. He’s lucky to be where he is.

I could give 2 shits about the Steelers, but the comparison of Vick to Ben is pretty pathetic. Vick is not even a marginal qb. He is however, a phenominal athlete. What Ben lacks in athleticism, he makes up for in intangibles at qb.

Is he Elway, Montana,…hell no, but he does have much more qb skills than Vick ever will.

Best teams ever, that is always good bar fodder, but it would be tough to pick between the 70s Steelers, the 80s 49rs, or the 90s Cowboys. Edge going to 70s and 80s if I had to choose.

Dang sasquatch… we agree on shit. Never thought it possible. Vick does suck at the position. He’s Kordell Stewart on steroids. Vick = awesome athlete/horrible fucking QB.

[quote]WOrta1128 wrote:

If you’re talking about Ben here… I say “Where is his track record of failure?” I don’t think he can ever remember losing 3 games in a row in his life. Ben would make any team better no matter where he played. Imagine what kind of numbers he would put up on a pass heavy team. His intangibles and intelligence are the sure signs of a hall of fame QB in the making. Ben is so good he didn’t even take time to warm up, he’s playing at a level that far exceeds what new QB’s are supposed to do in their first 3 years. Ben is coming off of injuries… and I am willing to put my ass on the line and say that as long as Ben is healthy and running the Pittsburgh offense, that the Steelers will take their 2-3 record and turn it around and make the playoffs and possibly the superbowl. They have all the tools. Whether or not they will use them and have them all available remains to be seen. Ben is trying to be the best QB that ever lived. He’s already off to a decent start, maybe he makes it and maybe he don’t. But what he’s shown so far is enough for me to call him “the best rookie I’ve ever seen in his frist 3 years”. You’re way off on Ben. Time will tell. We’ll see in 10 years where he’s at.

The way in which I compared Ben to Vick wasn’t in athletic ability or his ability to manage the team, only in the fact that they’re both qb’s who landed in the right places. That’s all.

In regards to everyone else, hey, maybe I’ll be wrong, and maybe I’ll be right. I’m not discrediting what the guy has done. Superbowl, 28-7 (?) as a starter, that’s all great. I just think he’s overhyped. You disagree. No big deal.

I guess a sports discussion is another one of those things (politics, religion, etc.) that can get heated pretty quickly.

If I told you all that I think Emmitt Smith is the best RB in history, you’d eat me alive. That’s just more fodder, though. I won’t hijack the Steeler thread.

And for the record, even being a Cowboy fan, I think that the best football dynasty in history is the one made up of the Steelers teams of the seventies. Lord knows that I hate the fact that they beat the Cowboys twice. Crazy good football.

Easy there bro, that nod has to go to Marino. No rings, but he didn’t have the supporting cast Ben has either.

Of course, I didn’t see Marino’s first three years (I was born when he was drafted) so maybe you didn’t either. In that case I would agree with you.

I saw his first three years. He had a decent supporting cast but they always structured the team around him.

Too much focus on the passing game does not make for a well rounded team or a champion.

Every QB that has a good season in Pittsburgh is overhyped. Kordell was touted as the second coming when he was on top of his game. The thing with Pittsburgh is, the city will turn on a QB like a fucking pit bull if they slip. Look at our last three QBs: O’Donnell, Stewart, and Maddox. Every one of them was public enemy #1 when they left the city. Ben may be different though, because he has a ring. I’m too young to remember how Bradshaw was treated on his way out. He’s practically a saint around here now though.

You at least have a good argument with Emmitt as greatest ever, because he has the rushing title.

The only dynasties I’ve ever seen were the Cowboys in the '90s and the Pats of late, so I can’t really say for sure who’s the best. I don’t think you can really go with the '90s Cowboys though, because they only won 3 rings.

And the last time I checked, the number 12 is bigger than the number 5. Just because they weren’t “Super Bowls” when they won 9 of their 12 championships, doesn’t mean they aren’t as important. They were still the best team in the league that year, just like the Super Bowl winner is. They don’t call Green Bay “Titletown” for nothing man.

Again, please tell me why the winner of the Super Bowl gets the Lombardi Trophy? It’s not called the Landry or Jimmy Johnson Trophy. It’s the Lombardi Trophy. And Lombardi coached the Packers. So, if you are going to name the Super Bowl trophy after a coach, wouldn’t you want that coach to be the best ever? Yes, you would. And wouldn’t you want that coach to be the coach of the best teams ever? Yes, you would. And wouldn’t you want that coach and those teams to be a part of the best organization ever? Yes, you would.

I hope you are still with me here. So, if the best team in the league is the winner of the Super Bowl. And that team gets the Lombardi Trophy. And Lombardi was the coach of the Packers. The best organization ever is who? Yup, you guessed it, the Green Bay Packers.

Bradshaw never went back for years. I am not sure the reason but he felt he was treated poorly.
