Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal

I’ve never been a fan of oatmeal, though I choked it down anyways. My wife bought some McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal. This stuff kicks ass, give it a try! I put a little bit of pumpkin pie spice in it and I’m practically hooked on the oatmeal now.

Stir in some canned pumpkin and some frozen blueberries. You get two power foods in one meal. Tastes good too and is very good for you.

Hmm, the pumpkin pie oatmeal concept sounds pretty good! Thanks for the ideas guys.

Steel cut oats are about the best thing in the world. food wise.

McCann’s is expensive as hell, like $5/lb. If you find a store that sells bulk, like Whole Foods, you can get steel cut oats for around a buck a pound.

I mix no-fat plain yogurt with mine. You could also mix any flavor of Metabolic Drive into the oats. Tasty.

Yup, plenty stores sell or check out bulkfoods.com They have steel cut oats, flax, quinoa, etc. A bunch of good stuff cheap!

mccann’s is really good. quaker makes steel cut oats and they are less money and pretty good also. i don’t like a lot of stores bulk steel cut oats. they seem to made from softer wheat or something and always get mushy. i don’t like bob’s red mill steel cut for the same reason.

They are damn tasty, aren’t they? I disliked oatmeal so much before trying them that I just refused to eat them, health benefits be damned.

In OH and PA McCann’s goes for $6 for 1lb 12 oz. When I lived in NJ a grocery store called Wegmann’s (best store EVER) sold them in bulk for even less. Quinoa and loads of other grains as well. I miss it dearly.

Are these “steel cut oats” able to be microwaved like Quaker instant oats? (The non sugared kind… in a big tube)

will take much longer… Boil it… better, way better…

I just made a pot for my Saturday carb up.

Here’s a trick I learned for the steel cut oats since they aren’t instant.

Put your oats and water in the pot, and bring to a boil. Shut off the heat, put the lid on and cover it all night. In the morning just reheat it to the temp of your liking and you are good to go.

That way, you don’t have to spend hours cooking them. Works perfect this way.
