STEAK?

Prof X, I thought you knew your shit after reading your posts on the board, but you just kicked it up a notch in my book with that Lawry’s Garlic Salt.

I do all of my grilling on the weekend. I mix salmon, steak and chicken for the week.

Best story of the week. Got home from workout last night and as I was headed into the shower, the wife asked what I wanted to eat. I was trying to be funny and said , “meat”. When I got downstairs, the sweet lady had a plate with 2 pieces of chicken, 2 salmon fillets and 2 steaks waiting for me . . . awesome!!

South African steaks. Nothing like them, both in price and taste.

I’m getting disappointed with T-bones too much waste. I cooked four T-bones and a huge Sirloin steak last night and the Sirloin was actually much better that the T-bone.

Bumpage.

I can’t eat my steaks right now but t’is the season.

Dieting?

I’ve been loving ribeyes lately - probably my favourite cut now.

Repost from the grilling thread I bumped, but 12 pounds of ribeye right here. Got it all vacuum sealed and ready to go.

I love ribeyes. I’m normally a porterhouse man, and lately a prime rib man (but real horse radish, please, not that half assed shit)…but ribeyes are rib stickin’ delicious.

When we going to grill some, buddy?

Favourite steak sauce recipe:

1 small can of green peppercorns
1 cup of real beef stock
1/2 cup of good Cabernet Sauvignon
1 tablespoon of tomato paste
corn flour to thicken if needed

Reduce…costs almost as much as the steak BTW.

I’m having a big BBQ in 2 weeks time. Wanna come round?

I got that grill mark shit down!

Half potato recipe:

Cut little mini half potatos in half.

In a bowl add EVOO, chopped up onions(I prefer finely chopped), chopped up garlic and also some kosher salt and pepper. Roll them around in the oil till coated.

In a big baking pan, place potatos flat side down, very important. Place in oven pre-heated at 400F for 1/2 hour.

After 1/2 hour or so flip the potatos over and pop back in the oven for twenty minutes or untill brown on top.

Take them out and stir them around to coat them in the oil again then lay pan on a slight angle to drain a little so the little beuties aren’t coated in the shit.

You can also add some parsley somewhere in there. There really just home fries without all the fuss of counter top cooking.

Shit, I just noticed in the pic that if I panned over a little right you would have thought I had a fucking awesome black marble counter top and not just my black marble cutting board sitting on the dishwasher lol.

Quite simply the best thread on T NATION EVER!

Tough call on that one, you should venture into SAMA once in awhile, the Vixen and Ass Worship threads are quite legendary.

Sealers are a must at my house, just don’t by a cheapo one, they don’t last. Wash the bags after using them to save a little extra money as well. They’re good for a couple of uses.

When they come off the grill to sit, I spread a little butter on top with a sprinkle of kosher salt.
I don’t reuse the bags. I freeze them, thaw them, and then cook them in the bag. The bags usually pop as they fill with heated air like popcorn…so the steaks “steam” a little instead of just getting nuked.
Are the bags Microwave safe? Aren’t you concerned about the plastic ‘leeching’ chemicals into your steak?
Yes, the bags are microwave safe and no I do not worry about “leeching chemicals”.

I think some of you are really fucking paranoid about things like that. I could see worrying about this if your life is simply FILLED with heated plastics, soy products and Zac Efron posters, but mine isn’t and looking at me, I don’t think I need to start worrying now.

Just researching this thread as I need to cook steak tonight and freeze for a few days, but no sealer. Just gonna wrap it tight and put in tupperware.

that said, has your stance changed at all on the topic of plastics as more and more research comes out? I know you tend to err on the side of most of this stuff we shouldn’t worry about… curious, and please don’t take offense, do you feel this contributed to your condition a few years back where you needed surgery?

Any evidence that xenoestrogens can cause an androgen/estrogen imbalance similar to that created by anabolic steroid abuse? Further, that such a xenoestrogen mediated imbalance would result in the hypertrophy symptomatic of gynecomastia? Before you cite the standard alarmist studies, breast carcinogenesis occurring in higher frequency alongside xenogestrogen intake and the formation of glandular tissue in males are not the same thing.

Oh, I don’t know either way as I have not studied up no the subject much at all. It’s my understanding that it’s just not worth it if you have alternatives. I still use some plastics and such (try mainly for BPA free), but I do not microwave anything in plastic anymore.

Prof X,

Do you let the steaks cool down before vacuum sealing them or do you just throw em in there hot and seal it shut?

I used to. I used to put them in the fridge first because I found that most of the seals didn’t hold if you had a lot of liquid going through the opening while it sealed.

They seem to be making the bags better now because I find I can put them in the bags right after cooking now and they still seal well.
