Man, that deadlift goal of yours will come a lot easier after devouring slabs of beef on a routine basis.

Can’t you head over to a steakhouse with some friends? When you come back you can tell your parents “wow, that curry and lentil soup was to die for”

i tried that, but it didn’t work because where i live everyone knows each other. i’ll find a way to smuggle some steak in my room though lol.

I feel bad for you dude. I grew up in a family meat store/deli. On the other hand, the good news is that for the most part, if you’re eating 2+ lbs of goat versus 2 lbs of beef daily consistently, you’re probably doing better than most (if size is goal). Goat is good stuff.

Canadians, where do you get your steak? I’m interested as I buy from different places, and never really compare prices.

I will only buy steak or any meat for that matter from Safeway. I haven’t come cross a meat specialty shop anywhere I live(d). But we all know Safeway is a little more expensive than other places. However, the quality be it smell is a lot more pleasent than some steak I smelt at other places.

What do you think will happen differently in a Ziplock in 8 months time? Unless you’ve got some kind of nitro flush going with your sealer, I don’t see what’s going to be different.
That’s because you probably haven’t owned one. When sealed right, even after a year, there is NO freezer burn…and it takes it all of 5-10min to thaw out in room temp water because there is no extraneous water in between the cells of the meat like what happens when there is no air tight seal.

Ziplock bags are not doing that.
Ziplocks are air tight and meat frozen in them will defrost in water just as fast as in your packages. I doubt you’ve tried sucking the air out of a Ziplock with a straw so you’ve got no firsthand advantage over me not having had a sealer.

I will concede the sealer is probably more consistent since sometimes I’ll get a pocket of air that doesn’t get removed with the straw and sometimes I’m not too smooth with removing the straw and getting the bag zipped. If I wanted to be fussy I’m sure I could get it perfect every time. I really don’t need to be that fussy because I never keep meat frozen that long.
Unless you’re sucking ability far outreaches most peoples you can’t come close to vacuum sealing.
Agreed…plus, there is no way in hell you will suck out all of the air when the food is wet. Steaks aren’t dry meat unless you cooked them wrong or got them cold enough to congeal any juices. That means sucking the air out will leave you with a open seal and a mouth full of cooked blood and oil.
Hahaha Nobodies steaks are that wet.
Spoken like someone who has never used a vacuum sealer. They suck out ALL of the extra air so any juices around the meat will come with it unless congealed. That is why it beats sucking it out manually and trying to seal it. You can not get the same effect with a straw and your mouth.

I also don’t plan to argue more about it with someone who doesn’t even cook food like this or have any to store long term…so keep sucking.
You’re starting to act like a baby.

I do cook food like that. You are correct I don’t store for that long. What you’re describing sounds like sucking the juice out of the meat. I don’t think that’s a good thing.
Your assumption is wrong, about it sucking out juices from meat. It ONLY removes air, and makes for even BETTER marinating. You are removing air within very small spaces within the meat, and allowing for the marinade to penetrate even further. You can get the same marinating power you might find overnight using a basic Ziplock bag, but in maybe 30 min of storing the meat in a vacuum sealed bag.

Trust me, the shit works, I used to mail pot to my buddy using a vacum sealer, and not even the dogs could smell it.
I didn’t really think X was sucking the juices out. I was just being argumentative because he was. My point is, sucking the air out of a Ziplock is close to being just as good. Probably most people could never tell the difference.

By the way, if dogs couldn’t smell your pot it has more to do with the permeability of your material than it does the amount of air left inside.

Sucking the air out of a Zip-lock bag is nowhere even remotely close to a vacuum sealing machine doing it. Not to mention contaminating the bag with your mouth, hands, and breath.

By (effectively) removing the air, you are eliminating any medium for an odor to exist in. Yes, vacuum seal bags are much thicker than Zip-lock bags.

just had some steak last night.

top sirloin with mash potatoes and sautee broccoli and mushrooms!

had no time to take pic sorry…

Not solely steak, but chicken, fish and beef.

Great thread, I really hate how either media, worthless health enthusiasts, or know-nothings have demonized beef. Anything to take away the attention to TRULY bad eating habits (eating junk food frequently, frying everything in oil, lack of home cooking, processed shit, etc).

Let us all embrace vegetarians and vegans… after all, it means more beef for the rest of us.

do you guys vacuum seal fresh steak and freeze it then just leave it in the fridge to thaw out later down the track? how long does vacuum seal last? most meat i have had which weren’t vacuum sealed have lasted at least 3 months.

Ha, yeah I was showing off. The lb for t-bone goes for $7.50 here at sam’s, so I did save some money. You also didn’t get a bad deal. I bought these just across the border in Mexico when I came home to visit my parents. I’ll buy some more again when I come back in two weeks.

I found some sirloins for 2.99/lb and was pretty damn excited but you all got me beat!
