70/30, wow thats bad. i put on 20 lbs lean mass in the past 3 months, and i gained maybe 2 lbs of fat. no lean bulk either, nor am i gifted in any way.

I hate to do this, but I’m calling B.S.

Did you have your bodyfat tested before hand by a professional, or are you just ‘eyeballing it’? (That makes a HUGE difference)

If you want to put it that way, i have been bulking the past year and a half, pretty much ongoing… week off here and there. i started at 155 lbs @ 12.5% bf. Im now 200 lbs at 14% bf. Juts keep a clean diet, and lift heavy. Cardio twice a week.

Thats over 8 lbs of fat gained.

You’re doing great, (and if accurate) you’re gaining about 2 lbs of muscle a month, every month. Well, that’s very good, congradulations. He’s stating 6 pounds a month! I just can’t help but think maybe he started taking creatine and is holding a lot of water or something. I hope for the best for him in any regard.

Nah dude, i just take whey powder PWO. Im eating big and clean, and well… i have a good routine. I learned alot from people at my gym, and that helped me out alot. As for the holding water i have no idea, but if i am, i hold it a long time

The big AND would be that he was at about a 25% fat gain. That is pretty close to the 30% fat gain ratio (70/30) Lowery mentioned (and Staley re-stated).

Yup. Pretty solid. But I guess he is wrong about it being bad and him being any different. I think 70/30 is pretty respectable. Some will be able to get good muscle gains with less fat than that. Many will need to put on more fat.

And he made the 70/30 ratio sound treacherous when his ratio was similar. That’s the point.

Excellent point. Depending on the person, adding less fat is possible. I think Lowery (and by extension Staley) used this number as what is typical. As Cosgrove would say, ‘What the majority can expect.’ Of course there are people on both sides, some will need to add more fat and some will do it with less.
