Thread Rejack,
To the OP. I think something that is never discussed with 5-3-1 is the program that you did previously to it. I have done a lot of sheiko stuff with tonnes of volume and it has worked well for me. When I switched to 531 I had an immediate surge in strength (likely due to the reduced volume) but eventually my bench stalled, but my squat and deadlift increased slowly.
The same could be true in your case for a westside approach with a lot of band work. I suspect that 531 will likely lead to eventual gains as you transition to the 531 loading protocal, but you may not want to wait that long.

Thanks Redroast…I have in the past done a few blasts of D.C. to sort of take a break from West-Side. I was VERY pleased with the results…got strong as fuck, for me, and when I transitioned back to WS I was ahead of where I was or the same, and I put on 10 lbs while slimming down the waistline a bit. I would have kept with that only the gym I went to closed its doors. Since I live in a small town that was the only gym in town. Good news for me though is there is a Golds Gym opening up in the next town over from me, about a 20 min drive… I’ll get back on that program that works for me when it opens in March.
To be honest tho, when I was doing WS I rarely did singles. I would do 3’s and 5’s 99% of the time so I thought 5.3.1 would be a great fit. Since the 5.3.1 % are much lower I probably just de-trained myself.I’m not gonna bash 5.3.1 just say that I wasn’t happy with it and have decided to go back to what I like. It’s kind of like women…they all have the same “plumbing” and stuff but some you like more than others right??
