Mine is kinda sad. I go to a gym which is owned by Charles Austin.Hes an Olympic high and long jump gold medalists and holds the records so he is pretty legit. He trains high school athletes all the time. Great guy. But he had this high school basketball player doing 3x10 of squats; but told him to go 1/4 of the way…with 95lbs. Im nowhere near what this guy is when it comes to achievements but what the hell? Am I missing something here?

Yeah, I know but they are so the gym itself is so convenient and has everything I need. I travel a lot in sales and always am able to find a 24 Hour.

This same “trainer” has had his client do assisted squat rack curls and doesn’t put away his weights when he’s done. I’ve been such a pussy by not saying anything.

Today my partner and I were doing deadlifts. My partner did a single, put the weight down. Of course it made some noise. Immediately after some old guy came up and said to him that “the floors aren’t made to handle weightlifting in that manner” yada yada yada. I knew that if my partner said something at that time, it wasn’t going to be nice and could’ve gotten us thrown out, so I told the guy thanks and basically got him away from us.

Turns out he’s the director of the campus rec centers. If there ever was anyone who could get us thrown out, it’d be that guy. Glad I wasn’t a dick to him.

No joke, I saw a guy today doing the exact same decline crunch thingy where he looked like he was being exorcised. I just stopped and stared at him and got a group of about 6-7 people just all staring at him until he stopped. Then I stepped forward and said, “No. Keep going.” He got red and just walked off. It was definitely interesting.

THEN I was doing some rack pulls in the power rack and right next to it was a smith machine where two bros were doing incline presses… but the bench was set a little far back. So they started to rotate in a girl who was interested in their arms (they had good arms, I’ll give them that) and one guy wound up going super heavy, but because the rail was far forward, he lost it as it went down, and wound up pinning him.

THEN everyone looked at me funny because I did some crazy bells pressing with plates instead of kettlebells.

THEN I was standing literally 20 feet away from a bench in front of the db rack doing some band work, and this guy walks up to me, points to the bench and says, “Are you using that?” and I just look at him really confused… I don’t think I had even looked at the bench, but for whatever reason he thought I was using it.

THEN as I walked out of the free weight area I saw a sign that said, “No gym bags in the free weights area.” Evidently I terrified the personal trainers because not one of them who saw me (with my bag full of stuff) bothered me at all about it.

Basically, tonight was a weird night at the gym. It’s my one week free trial though, and all this just points to me not actually getting a membership there.

Doing RDL’s yesterday @ Gym

Guy: How many sets you have left?
Me: What’re you gonna do?
Guy: Curls
Me: Oh, I have a lot of sets left.
Guy: Can I work in with you?
Me: Can you curl what’s on the bar?
Guy: No
Me: Then no

Guy went and sat down to wait for the other power rack. I finished my last 2 sets, stripped the bar and walked off. Guy had taken over the other rack by then, but looked a little miffed when he saw me unloading. Nice guy, though. I suppose I didn’t have to be a dick about it, but the guy that sounded like a tire letting air out on every rep of bench had started to irritate me a bit.

I usually try and keep the force in balance…but I haven’t done anything stupid @ the gym lately.

My gym has 2 incline benches by the dumbells, and they are screwed into the floor. The part that sucks is that one of them is on the end where the bigger dbs are, and the other is on the opposite end. So, if the one by the heavy dbs is taken, you have to walk about 30 feet to the other side.

Well…yesterday, 2 indian looking brahs were by the bigger dbs, but were using the lighter weights. It really didn’t bother me until everytime I was walking the weights back, the little one is lifting his shirt up looking at his “abs” in the mirror…right in front of the weights where you can’t walk by. So I’ve got to walk up right next to him, before he gets all nervous and scurries out of the way. This happened twice, and the third time he was just staring at himself.

I try so hard to be nice to these little fuckers, but they are good at trying my patience.

Saw some hardcore 1/4 squats today…the sad part is, usually when kids work up to heavy 1/4 squats, their first few light sets they have decent depth…these kids were 1/3 squatting 135…then moved on to 225 and 315…wtf. Also…if you need a belt to 1/3 squat 135, what makes you think you have any business at all touching 315? Seriously.

I had two moments yesterday. First, at the front door, a guy was going in in front of me, he look right at me 5 ft behind him and then opened the door just wide enough for himself to slide through and me have to open it for myself. Luckily he didn’t open it enough to fit through and got caught between the door and the frame.
Second, we have 2 squat racks, with about 3.5 feet between them. I’m doing CT’s new leg thing with 315 on and the guy next to me is 1/4 squatting 95. Out of nowhere a woman ducks under the end of my bar, as its on my back and positions herself between the racks and starts doing squats while holding 2.5 plates, 6 inches from the end of the bar. I was fully prepared to bail and start praying she knew a good plastic surgeon if she touched it, luckily she didn’t, even when she laid down to do sit-ups. Then, as I was going to add some weight, she acted super surprised, and then moved away, that she was in the way of me trying to do my thing. Caught dirty looks from her and the guy (who turned out to be her hubby) for the next 20 minutes.
