Squat Rack Curls 2011

I was training today, and noticed this girl would always quickly look away whenever I would glance in her direction. We made eye contact quite a few times, upon which I smile and go about my business.

I move to the other side of the gym to finish up with some seated rows. After a set, I start to take a sip of water, and notice her looking right at me around this column/post thing. I completely missed my mouth and spilled my gatorade/bcaa mix all over myself and the seat. Their who was a woman right next to me who saw the whole thing. I couldn’t help but start laughing, as I went to get some towels to clean it up.

Good day.

Today, on my last set of squats, I accidentally dumped the bar. I finished my last rep, and as I was about to step back in, I stood up to straight and the bar came crashing down onto the catches. 405 lbs falling a few feet makes a loud sound.

Amazingly, the trainer behind me did not care at all.
Normally if I dump I duck into the safeties, which tends to minimize the acoustic effects.

A year or so back I was visiting a gym by my folks. Freeweights are upstairs, above the !@#$^&*() daycare center.

Naturally, I ended up dumping a squat onto the safeties. Off my back. Before progressing to deadlifts.

About 5-10 minutes later a lady came up from downstairs asking if we could keep it down – things were falling off the wall downstairs.

Who puts a !@#$%^&*() daycare center directly underneath the freeweights? And complains when it gets loud?

Note: the offices at this gym are under the cardio area. Apparently staff count more than kids.

My old gym had a HAIR SALON under the freeweight area…if I was going to be doing anything from the platform I’d have to go in at the craziest hours to avoid the hassle

I felt sorry for her just because she was so tiny and weak, but apparently she had progressed- she did 10 pushups. She said two weeks ago she couldn’t even do one.
Why wouldn’t she just use a box? My gym has different height boxes and when I was doing the Look Like a Goddess, Lift Like a Man program I just used those for my incline push ups… Doesn’t it hurt having your hands wrapped around a bar like that? Or at least not it’s not very stable…
There were no boxes. It sucks- for box squats I stack 45s and put a pillow on top. She was the tiniest thing.

Ah! The old case of curling under the squat rack.

My weight room is surrounded with squash courts. And last night I got hit in the butt with a squash ball while I was trying to squat. That stings!

The gym I workout at used to have an adult mental health office under the free weight area. The weights dropping would freak out the patients.

My gym is at a college and surrounded by all glass windows. This time of year they have campus tours every day during my workout session at 1pm. The squat racks are directly against the glass window so every time I workout in the rack, I’m on display like a silverback at the zoo to about 40 parents and their children. They stop right there in front of the squat rack, and that’s where the tour guide gives his presentation. It’s happened every year for a month and hasn’t gotten any less awkward.

My university gym is much the same with windows as walls next to the dumbbell racks. I can only imagine what they must think of some of the characters at the gym. It reminds me a lot of looking at animals at the zoo.

Same situation here, tour guide might as well say ā€œAnd these are the alpha males that your daughter will be under, on top of, and bent over in front of for the next four yearsā€¦ā€

+1 on shrugs becoming the new curls.
saw some dude load up 405 on the bar and sorta do a 1-inch shrug with it off the pins for 3 reps or so.
straps of course. then he’d walk around sporting the ā€œfuck yeahā€ look.
try it first, then mock…

well, maybe not.

LMAO.

I was doing lat pull downs for my last excerise on back last week and lo and behold someone was doing bicycle kicks on the standing leg raise/dip station…

Thats a fucked up set up from a safety stand point.

Saw a man take a barbell into the smith machine and use it instead of the guided Smith bar. The gym’s sole power rack was empty, why did he feel the need to do this?

If it were me, I’d pick it up and throw it even farther away from their court.
