Squat Form- Wider Stance

In the past, I’ve used a decently narrow stance when squatting (almost under my shoulders) but I tried using a wider stance today. I liked it because I felt solid at parallel and had better heel drive. Any critique would be appreciated.

Looks really solid to me. If it feels better, I say stick with it for sure. You look strong and depth is no problem.

Thanks N.K.
Yeah it felt solid so I think I’m going to stick with it.

You have a solid looking hip / mid section. A wide stance will serve you well. I would comment on the knees coming in each rep. Work on pushing the knees out and squeezing the glutes. Maybe try to ol mini band around the knees trick to enforce pushing the knees out.

I see you rocking the adipowers. Do you like them for that wide stance? I’m thinking of getting a pair of those or the Nike Romalos myself. I can’t low bar squat anymore without much pain in my rebuilt shoulder so I have to take a higher bar position. The ol Chucks aren’t feeling as good as they once did.

I’ve started incorporating monster walks into my warm up, but i might leave it on my knees for the first few sets

I have used the chucks in the past, and I still use them for most everything but squatting and overhead. Im looking at getting the new reebok powerlifting shoe in the spring as well. The adipowers are great though, your feet really do feel glued to the floor. I cant get as stable wearing my chucks, and for high bar and front squatting they’re a game changer. I was going to get the romeleos because i have a slightly wider foot, however i found the adipowers in my size almost 50 dollars cheaper on eastbay and got them, no regrets here.

I am no expert but from what I’ve read a medium width stance or just slightly more narrow allows for the knees to track out towards your toes more (better for knees in long run) and less strain on your hips. I have also heard that wider stance is typically for those who compete equipped and this is to better utilize the gear (squat suits). I feel much more comfortable squatting wider to but switched to a narrower stance and my knees are thanking me. Hip mobility work and stretching makes a narrower stance feel much more comfortable for me. Just a thought.

I just watched the video again and it can be seen quite evidently in the last set (you are strong btw, no issues there haha), your knees flex inward, not sure if that happens with a narrower stance or if your abductors haven’t caught up with the rest of your squat. There is more emphasis on these muscles with a wider stance.

adducter* not abducter…

Thanks H. I’ll check out east bay

where are you at in Indiana??

Monster Walks?

That’s a habit of mine in later sets when I get tired. I do it when i squat high bar and low bar. It’s a person weakness I need to work on
