No offense at all. Believe me, I understand.
About the looking up or looking down, I always look slightly downward when doing back squats because of the slight forward lean when you have a heavy weight on your back. You want your spine to stay in a neutral position. If you look too far up, you could lose some of the kyphotic posture your thoracic spine is supposed to have. If you look too far down, you lose tightness in the upper back and your support structure goes to shit.
Check this out. It’s usually used in reference to DLs but the concept is the same for squats. http://articles.elitefts.com/training-articles/packing-the-neck-an-article-inspired-by-clint-darden-and-facebook/
There are a couple of articles about it here on T-Nation as well, but this one illustrates the point pretty well.
Thanks, great read I’m very convinced, I will look down from now on.

Stop looking down at the start and end of every rep. Look at the mirror or up.
Stick your chest out, you might do this more naturally if you look up. Some how you are arching your back while your shoulders are slacking.
Take a deep breath in as you go down or before
Your back may be sore if it’s the weakest link. Try a cycle of good mornings.
Hey good observation mate.
Chest out, I try to do that but I guess I’m not trying enough, got it.
Also my shoulders are pretty weak my 5rep max is like 105 pounds or something on military press, maybe that’s why my shoulders are slacking.
Maybe because I’m flexible I can do the elbows back position pretty easily without needing to get my chest out…
I suppose just concentrating on chest out is enough to fix all that.
