i haven’t read the original comics…but whats the storyline in there? do the people in New York find out that he’s spiderman?
all love stories are pretty cheesy
spiderwebs are REALLY REALLY REALLY strong lol…what was even better was how he was body surfing after he stopped the train
no comment…haha
overall, i liked the movie. the graphics were great, and it had just enough action to make it exciting. the support cast was awesome too (like the newspaper editor, the usher at the play, etc)
I was (still am) a comic book geek. There, I said it.
Anyways, alot of people knew that Peter Parker was spider-man, but not an entire city, more like 20 or so people, and most of them are villains. so that puts him in constant danger.
Other than that, the movie sounds like it could be pretty close to the comics… which is good when you are talking about a comic based movie.
I just saw it I must say that while there are differences between the comic and the movie; the movie is pretty close to the comic.
The comic was always more about the life of a normal guy who just happens to be a superhero. It always showed the human element of being a superhero; juggling normal life with crime fighting.
I hevn’t read Spider-man since the whole clone saga, so it has been a while but I know both Osbornes new he was Spidey, along with a handful of other people.
Overall, i enjoyed it and it stayed pretty true to the comic series. Plus I think the guy that play J. Jonah Jameson is perfectly cast.
Sugarfree = 1
Daredevil, Wolverine, Punisher, Captain America = 2
Kingpin, Doctor Doom = 3
Beast, Ghost Rider, Spider-man = 4
Venom = 5
Thing, Namor, Colossus, Iron Man = 6
Hulk, Silver Surfer, Thor = 7
Now, I would guess Superman started a 3, Become a 7 until 1986’s MAN OF STEEL miniseries, when writer Byrne downgraded him to a 5.5. Now he’s back to the 6.
So yes, Spider-man could stop the train, but it would be hard. Just like it was in the movie. Superman could no problem.
*stats 1992 marvel card series 2. Superman stats a guess.
Spiderman II was better then the first movie. Spiderfan, your not a spiderman fan if you did not enjoy this film.
Granted, it was not true too the comic books in some parts… But, in the end of the comic books Peter Parker does wind up with Mary Jane and he does reveal himself to the public. Maybe they just showed it too early.
But, it did bring out the issues and problems that spiderman had to deal with more then any other superhero. It made spiderman more human the other super heros.
Remember, only the people in the train knows he’s Spiderman, and they promised not to tell, yeah right! Well, I enjoyed the movie especially the first fight scene of the tentacles, reminded me of the old “Evil Dead” movies if you know what I mean. I give it a 9 cuz I’m an old comic geek.
haha the part about spider webs being strong is really true… i read somewhere that it is guessed that a strand of web the thickness of a pencil is enough to stop a 747 jumbo jet in flight!!
Being a bit of a marvel geek in the past I can tell you that spider-man was capable of pressing 10 tons overhead. So he is pretty strong and his web is even stronger!
I think maybe it was during the ninth or tenth monologue about following your heart, your dreams, feelings, heros, blah blah blah. I felt like I was watching lifetime vagina television. Fucking Oprah doesn’t whine about her feelings as much as spiderman.
What was all that crap with the landlord’s daughter bringing him cake? WTF? Like that anorexic has ever eaten a piece of cake in her life, that was ten minutes of utterly irrelevant, random nonsense that had nothing to do with anything.
And Kirsten Dunst sucks. If she gets any more precious I am going to throw up. Plus, she could really benefit from a good support bra.

Ka-zar
Gwen Stacy
A bunch of others who are dead or went loony as well.
LOL
Yeah , the whole cake scene was pretty pointless.
Dunst is ok as an MJ, but I think Tobey makes a very good Parker/Spidey.
The “follow your heart” and “do the right thing” stories were a little overdone. But it probably is a real life struggle to be a superhero and try to have normal life. I can see how someone could struggle with it daily.
I think the point of Aunt May’s little hero speech, other than to help Parker’s decision to return as Spider-Man, was to show that she knows he is Spider-Man.
The doctor one was a little different. I guess the story needed someone to tell him it’s ok not to be a hero. Are we to assume that the doctor knows he is Spidey, too?
It still is one of the better comic hero movies made.
The cake scene was not pointless. You got remember who Peter Parker was to appreciate the cake scene. He was a geek that couldn’t get into any female’s pants. And he didn’t realize that women were even after him. Basically, he didn’t know which side was up.
The landlord’s daughter had the hots for him since the begining of the movie.
I agree that Kirsten Dunst is not a good MJ. She’s a perfectly decent actress but she’s miscast here. MJ in the comics is a top model, in the sportwear illustrated mold and Kirsten is just not up to that standard IMHO.
As for stats, having been a Marvel and DC gamer, if I recall well Sups had a strength rating of 25 in the DC system, which means he could lift +/- 81 000 000 tons. As for Spidey, he could go up to 40 tons if he Red Zone.
But what the heck, its only a movie. Im still waiting for Batman Year One or The Dark Knight Returns. Damn Frank Miller. ;0)
Keep in mind people that even though a bunch of people saw peter parker’s face, it doesn’t mean that they know who he is. Even if they tried to get a sketch artist to do up a picture, finding a guy based on a description like that would be near impossible. Parker is not even close to a celebrity and he is a pretty average looking guy, so there’s no real danger of him being found out.
I was a HUGE comic nerd a few years back and a big Spider-Man fan from around Amazing SM 300 (Todd McFarlane era) to about 400 when the whole “Clone Saga” started getting retarded.
At that time there was the ongoing series of Amazing, Spectacular, and I think Unlimited, and Web of SM. And they all dealt with the same continuous story of Peter Parker from the original issues. One long continuing story.
Can someone PLEASE explain to me whats going on now!? What is the Ultimate SM series? Is it just starting over the story fresh? What about the same continuing story I was reading what happened to that SM?
