Ultimate SM in a nutshell.
Starts new. He’s a teenager again. They are able to use old plots with little twists, that are not always the same as old. And a pretty funny read. All the Ultimate titles exist in the same new world. Old continuity does not exist.
For money reasons, I recently canceled getting all titles except for Ultimate SM, and DC’s Supreme Power. Which is an another re-envisioning of an old story lines.
The advantage of this kind of thing is the writer can concentrate on fine-tuning what work in the past. Luckily I have never read most of the original story arcs that are the source. So it’s all fresh material to me.
Ultimate Spidey is good, really good. I’m not even a big comic fan, but I read the Ultimate Spideys.
Dunno how it is lately though, the last I read was like 28 or something.
I guy who writes it, Bendis or something, is really talented. I enjoyed it a lot more than classic spidey.
Alright it’s time to show my nerd ingenuity. UNLEASH THE DORK!
- Everyone in New York knows he is Spiderman.
– This is a misnomer, could have only been about 40 people in that one subway car. In reality they know what he looks like, not who is he is. This was never in the comics to my reccollection. Could have been omitted, but I see where they were going with it.
- The love story between Spiderman and Mary Jane was too cheesy.
– It’s supposed to be cheesy. It’s supposed to be old school romance… Peter in the comics always was a hopless romantic. Now problem herein lies that, in actuality (in the comics anyway) Peter, despite being a nerd, pulled a lot of ass. Like every chick introduced in the comic was on his nuts. From Betty Brant, Liz Allen, Gwen Stacy to Debra Whitman…this fool pulled some ASS.
3)I didn’t buy the way he was able to stop the runaway train. Superman? MAYBE, but not Spiderman.
– Strength is so variable in the comic universe… For instance in “Crises on Mulitple Earths” Superman moved PLANETS.
Mother
Fucking
Planets.
Let that sink in…
That being said the incredible hulk HAS no limit to his strength (its only as mad as he gets) so as far as brute strength he is the strongest.
Officially spider man can lift almost 10tons. It’s a well known fact that in extreme situations people’s strength can be magnified (grandma’s lifting cars to save baby’s blah blah). Though the train thing is no mean feat. He can do it. Also he can instinctilvely adjust his body weight and position of his limbs so he can balance himself on any object perfectly no matter how small or narrow.
- I thought for sure when Spiderman was shooting blanks, that we would see some type of adverstisement for Cialis, viagra, etc.
– So was I… So was I…again I see where they were going with it. About him having a choice and shit but eh… they’re beginning to stray too far from the comic book. BAD idea. Very bad. If they continue on the same route the 3rd movie (which has already been filming) will be horrible.
I hope we see VENOM in episode three.
One last thing,
Final verdict…They’re straying dangerously from the comics…
Deb Whitman, there isn’t much info on her except that she was the secretary to one of peter’s college professors (a Dr. Sloan) Ol Petey dated her in graduate school, she was a chick with some serious problems, she was married to a dude who beat her for a while.
And MJ is horribly cast…they needed to get Nikki Cox to play mj, she’d be believeable LOOKING (never said she was a good actress). Nicole Kidman’s too old other wise she’d be perfect… Amber Barretto is OK, but she still has kirsten dunst problem of being to okie. She’s just off…not a supermodel by any stretch. MJ was a RUNWAY MODEL and later on a soapopera…check the chicks on soap opera’s for 5 seconds. Kirsten Dunst is ugly in comparison. Too wholesome. MJ is supposed to be the epitome of hotness.
Anyway enough nerd-dom.
I just hope Ben Reilly doesn’t show up in Spider-Man 3.
j/k
Actually, Peter did lose his powers for a short time in the comics, but it was in a lab accident(if I remember right). And this was after he quit(but later returned) being Spidey, not the reason for quitting.
For Venom to show up in the movies, there would have to be some explanation of the black costume and symbiote. Well, I guess there doesn’t “have” to be, but it will either end up disappointing the comic fans or disappoint the casual movie fans. I would love it, but I don’t see it Venom happening. Besides, it looks likes it will Harry as the goblin in III.
Oh yeah, I was thinking about Superman moving planets. How would that look to the people on the planet? Does he just look like he’s doing a hand stand? A one handed hand stand? What’s up with that?
