Nice work on the bench put collars on there and your at body weight.
108 is tiny, EAT!
I used to CUT to 118.5 in college for wrestling, a year or so after wrestling I had puberty.
go figure.

Only had time for bench and squat.
Squat 1x5 55, 65, 75, 80 lbs. <form good, depth good. Still squatting to the box to stay honest. Had to suck everything in pretty hard on the last rep of 80 lb. We’ll see how long it takes to get back up to 115 with proper depth.
Bench 1x5 55, 65, 75, 85 1x2 90 1x1 95 1x1 100 lb < this is a PR yay! My (8 yo) son was helping me by hauling the weights on and off and encouraging me. Very cute!
Over and out!
That is so cute that your son was cheering on the team!
I am very impressed with your 100# bench. That is almost your bodyweight. Awesome!

Thanks Kimba, he asked me to teach him to deadlift with the hollow steel bar. He’s so cute.
I can’t believe my bench has finally improved. It seemed impossible but I made progress when someone said (who was it?) that it’s a fully body lift. That really made a difference.

Thanks! I’ll try to hit it next week. ![]()
I’m really pissed at this shrinking business! I went down to 110 before blackbelt, but I figured cutting back from 12 workouts a week to only lifting 3x would put some weight on. It’s gone the opposite direction and I think it’s lack of attention to my diet. I’m traveling on business this week so it’s even worse AND the gym here doesn’t allow barefoot lifting.
Bastards.
It must be frustrating to lose weight so easily. I gain it about as easily, which is equally frustrating. And less socially acceptable ![]()
Congrats on the 100 lb bench!!! James backed me off the weight a bit, but I am still gunning for a PR of 110…not sure if he will allow me triple digits this week or not. Last week I did 80’s for reps. Many reps. I remember at the beginning of the summer, he had me just hold 100 lbs and I could barely do it, much less bench it.
Soooo cute your son was helping! How did I not know you had an 8 year old? I have an 8 year old niece who is a delight. They grow up SO fast nowadays though, it is amazing to me.
Ugh…110.5# this AM. I am just not as motivated to eat when I’m not training (on a deload until tomorrow) and my gourmand sister went home leaving me to my own cooking devices.
In a normal day I’ll swing up to about 114 lbs. by bedtime. But I’m usually back down to 111.5 or 112.5# by the AM.
Is the 108 your AM weight before getting rehydrated?

I know what you mean. I have been praised in regular life for being slender. Then I come here and I’m just a scrawny bitch who can’t squat her own weight! ![]()
Good luck this week. Isn’t it incredible to feel the changes? What I about lifting is the totally quantifiable aspect, and the fact that there are very precise techniques to accomplish your goals.
My son is such a delight to me. He’s slaying me with grownup opinions on things. Very well-adjusted too. I have no idea where that came from!

Yes, I always weigh first thing, and I haven’t been below 109 in years. Usually I am about your size, but you do have that magnificient back. My measurements look about the same so I suspect this weight loss is muscle not fat which is even worse. Dammit!
Let’s hit the olive oil and cottage cheese. ![]()

You speak the truth…in the “real world” being skinny and female is the preferred body type, but here we are just weak, scrawny bitches.
And the thought of losing any hard-won muscle…YIKES.
Today is the farmer’s market, which means locally caught fish, the hubby’s favorite potato bread and as many veggies as I can still find. I can eat up the lost pound in one day, I think.

you 2 might be light as feathers but i certainly wouldn’t put scrawny in a sentence with you! and weak??? stf up!! ;0
and i thought i was moderately strong…until i came here…
same as Cbear- i think i weighed 110 around 6/7th grade. i used to think it was cool that i could pick my mom (albeit she was small 5’2 110 or less?) up and carry her around by 9th grade.

YUUUM! what kinda fish?
Heh, I used to pick my mum up when I was 11-12 years old. She weighed around 170lbs though at 5’8.5". I always thought strength was a cool thing and could never understand girls being afraid of weights.

MMMMMM-oh yeah!!! i did a run on wild alaskan halibut from costco. but truthfully, i don’t think it was that fresh, bc after bbq’n it and bringing it inside, it stunk the house up somethin fierce. (didn’t smell before cooking) so i’m not allowed to cook that. have to stick w salmon.
i will tear up a plate of seafood…any and all kinds!
Hi everyone, didn’t get a chance to work out this week until today because of the business trip. And I weighed in at 108.5 when I came back which sux. ![]()
Today was pretty good though I did get pinned under the bench press and have to tip off the weights (CRASH)
DB one-leg deadlift 1x5 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 lbs
BB squat 1x10 55 1x5 65, 75, 85 1x1 95 lb < all with good form to the box. I’m way below my December goal on squats but pretty close or exceeding on the others.
BB bench 1x10 55 1x5 65, 75 1x4 2x3 85 < this was disappointing since I did 5 reps at this weight last Friday. I finished with 1x1 95 lbs and failed at 100 lbs. Got pinned, tipped off the weights and waited for someone to come ask if I was ok. No one did. ![]()
DB row 1x5 30, 35, 40 1x3 45 lbs < these are really freaking hard at 45!
Just for the hell of it I did 2 singles at 30 for the db overhead press because I didn’t have recorded 1 RM except at my 5 RM which was 25 lbs. I couldn’t let that stand.
Over and out!
Do you have a rack you can bench in so you don’t get pinned? Or ask for a spot!

I like your attitude…pinned but unrepentant and undaunted! Way to go getting 95# up on the bench and a nice squat! You are doing great.
[quote]rcfromdb wrote:

Hi rc,
I probably could have asked for a spot. There was one other guy in the gym riding the bike. I train in a tiny/nasty work gym mid-afternoon, so there is rarely anyone there. I did get a spot last time from the cleaning guy who used to stalk me but he has since disappeared. We go through cleaning guys like my dog goes through chew toys. Last week my son spotted me for my first try at 100, which I did make, so I was kind of hoping I could hit this one… no dice.
How would a rack work? I’m in a rack, and I lift the weight up off the pins and then lower it to my chest. I sometimes get stuck about a third of the way up, and then I tip the weights off the ends.
No harm done to me but I do worry about the floor, which is covered with a frayed, stained old carpet… hmm. Maybe I don’t care anyway.

I’m reposting the goals I set on 9/29 for December so I can reevaluate:
"Here are my new (short-term let’s say December) goals:
Deadlift 170 current 1RM 155
Bench 95 current 1RM 90
Overhead press 65 current 1RM 62.5
Squat 130 current 1RM 125
Chinups 1x5 with 25 lbs added "
Update 10/24/09
Deadlift 1 RM 165
Bench 1 RM 100
OPress 1 RM 60
Squat 1 RM 95
Chinups 1x4 with 15 lbs
So, my deadlift and bench have improved since I took off for blackbelt and I have made my goal on bench and am close on deadlift.
I’ve lost a little ground on the overhead press and chinups, and I’ve backed down on the squat to be sure of form.
I think I’m on track to get there with the squat and press. Doing a lot of dumbell work for the press. I’m not sure I am training well enough to hit the chinups goal. I’ll check my status on Wednesday, weighted chinup day.
Status report ended. ![]()
10/26/09 update
DB overhead press 1x5 20 1x8 25 1x1, 1x2 30 lbs
Squat 1x6 65, 1x5 75, 85 1x2 95, 1x1 100 lbs < this is a current squat to the box PR. I’m pretty sure I can do more but I’m getting there slow and steady. Who knows if that previous PR of 125 really made depth?
BB overhead press 1x8 45, 1x5 50, 1x4 55… “What!?” said I. How can I miss the rep and 55?? I was so mad I slapped the extra 10 lbs on and made my new PR of 65 which is also my December goal!
Deadlift 1x5 115, 125, 135 1x3, 1x2 145 < still limited by grip on reps and I am fine with this.
Hipthrust (are we calling them barbell humps?) 2x5 145 lb. Anyone know how to tell if I am doing these right?
So that’s two of my year-end goals knocked off so far, 95 bench and 65 overhead press. I’m pretty close on the deadlift at 165, in fact, I should just try 170 on Wednesday and check that box. That leaves just the miserable squat 30 lbs below goal, and the weighted chinups.
Since blackbelt I have not been going to class or to kickboxing, and I think my bodyfat is going up while my weight is not. I don’t know how I feel about that. I’m not doing this to be ripped, necessarily, but it is fun to be leered at. Maybe I’m imagining things. Ah, who knows, and who cares?
Happy lifting to y’all ![]()
Over and out!
I don’t know why I haven’t stopped by before! But HI! ![]()
You may be, um, slender, but you are strong!! I better step it up!
ETA: I DID stop by! In August…ummm, I’ve been busy? ![]()
