Spending Shift: F-22 On Chopping Board

More importantly, when are they auctioning them off so I can buy one.

The EFV is too expensive for too little of a capability. . As a Marine, that is like saying “fuck” in church.

You mean the missle that fell into the ocean? You’re right! We need more F-22s!

It sure went a hell of a lot farther than the last one, which blew up 40 seconds into its flight. This one flew about 3,000 km. Quite an improvement.

Don’t worry, I’m sure the N. Koreans won’t sell the Taepodong-2 to any Pakistani Islamists once they get it working like they did their nuclear technology through the Khan network. I doubt they’ll advise the Iranians either - it wouldn’t be very nice and Obama would definitely write them a strongly worded letter condemning such a thing, were it to happen.

We have used our military more irresponsibly than almost any country in history.
Given the history of some nations that is a bold statement.

The Huns and Romans never pretended to do it for the greater good or to bring “freedom” to their conquered foes.

In times like these this seems to be so refreshingly honest.

Dude, even the Wright Brothers and Thomas Edison had flops. Eventually they’ll make a missle that works. You also failed to mention the fact that the Chinese are building up their military and guess what… They really don’t care for Americans that much.

Maybe not, but they REALLY dont care for Japan :stuck_out_tongue:

Add to that Russia has alot of natural resources that China will need sooner than later, Amercica is an ocean away wouldn’t worry to much.

Well the fact that the Chinese submarine fleet is rapidly growing worries me china submarine - Google Search

The fact that they have missle that can destroy an aircraft carrier with one hit, worries me U.S. Can't Stop Chinese Missile; No Tests 'Til 2014 | WIRED

I know some of yall think I’m parnaoid but this shit aint no joke.

Hah!

Now consider that the USA has a lot more firepower, that it outspends China in military expenditure by an order of magnitude and that it is actually going around the globe bombing and invading other countries.

Maybe if your buddies in Al-Qaida would chill we wouldnt need to.
You mean they would not find another group to justify reckless spending and to divert the attention from Americas domestic problems?

In a decade or so, when they have propped up another BS enemy, you will probably change your mind.

Or not.

From the USSR to illiterates in caves.

Oy vey.

Those “illiterates” in the caves have become very adept at reading schmatic diagrams so they can make better shaped charged explosives. Most of them also read the Quran alot. They also seem to be able to recruit college students. I know that some of these guys can’t read but I think most of them can.

Aha.

Anyhow, these semi- if not two-thirds-literates had to replace the empire of evil that had dozens of satellites states, the ability to destroy our solar system 3 times over and a strong ideology to boot.

And yet you need MORE resources to react to a threat that at their best moment were only able to take out 3000 people.

Does that sound like a real threat to civilization or more like a bureaucratic conspiracy not to have to find a real job?

Well, and to sell weapons. And hide behind flags a lot. And give lip service to cannon fodder.

Politics as usual really.

If China was to declare war on anyone, it would be its immediate neighbors. Why the hell would the Chinese want to travel halfway across the world to fight the world’s sole hyperpower, and knowing it would get a serious asswhooping?

Maybe for same reason why your boys from Al-qaida came over here and blow up those 2 buildings in NY.
The Chinese are also pissed off about the Castilian re-conquest of Andalusia?

Ironic that the USA is able to pay for all this military supremacy primarily because it’s still able to borrow money from China.

Which would be something like Alexander financing his military adventures by mortgaging the Macedonian Empire to India.

Oh come on.
At least the Romans were pretty much experts in finding bullshit reasons, most often with a religious background.

You rightwingers should be elated.
Obama/Gates is showing some spine here.
The F22, while looking good on paper and in the movies, is not what you need right now, or ever.
Dogfights with a 100mio+ vehicle makes as much sense as going to as barbrawl with your tux and top hat.

10% of your people are on food stamps, 1% sits in jail. You need to set your priorities straight.

But, but…North Korea will invade the US.

By all that’s unholy-the costs for the blasted craft are beyond anything!..

Did a little research and “pentagon says (…)179 planes for about $64 billion” (LA Times).
That’s 357 millions per plane!
I guess a stressed pilot can hit a button during supercruise to let Jessica Biel’s cloned head felate him in his golden seat.

It gets better: Your favorite enemies (terrorists inc) have …not a single plane!
And while potential “real” opponents like Iran might have a few rusted F14s which fly on pakistani truck spare parts, it’d be fiscal madness to do dogfights with them.

And how will the F-22 prevent any of that? Or the FCS?

Probably not much, but I do think having some nicer fighters may keep China or Russia from doing anything silly.

If China and Russia are comming p with new fighters while ours are old, worn out, and broken whats wrong with the US getting new planes. Keep in mind their are new SU-27’s and 30’s being made by the Russians and I’m sure they have no problem selling them.
I remember someone said once if you take a soldier and give him the best training available and the best equipment he will win.

A little off topic but I thought food stamps and welfare was somthing that the LEFTWINGERS wanted increase, not the left.

Nothing.

Just don’t claim North Korea is a threat to the US.

The F-22 didn’t get canned because it was selling well. It’s because it was an over-expensive piece that no amount of pressure from Washington could sell.

SUs have no problems selling because they’re good and cheap.

You must hang out with genuises.

What exactly is the difference between the two?

North Korea’s first missle was a straight failure. Their second was a failure too but it went alot farther then the last one.I’d say in about to more tries they can reach Hawaii. With a nuke.

SU’s if I understand correctly don’t have stealth technology. F-22’s do, so they cost more.

If your car breaks down and you take it to poorly trained mechanic who dosnt have the right tools he will fail in fixing your car. A well train one with great tools will fix your car. What does that have to do with being a genuise?

Rightwingers don’t want a welfare state. Lefty’s do. They are the ones who usually want an increase in food stamps, and welfare payments for people who don’t work.

They are not good. They are cheap. There are more of them.

Lixy giving military advice has to be one of the more absurd and misinformed things you will read today. He has about as much knowledge of military affairs as he does world affairs…which is zero.
