Speed Squats, Fast Enough?

Hi Everyone, I just started implementing the Westside Barbell training routine. This morning was a dynamic effort squat workout and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if my speed was sufficient or if I should be using a lighter load. In the below video, I’m squatting 225 against average bands, thanks ahead of time for the critique:

  1. Speed seems fine. Lots of videos of DE days at Westside out there if you want a reference as to how “fast” they squat on DE day. I’d just go with a 3 week wave of 50%, 55% and 60%, with another 20-25% in band tension, as Louie suggests in his more recent writings.

  2. How’s the band tension on the box? I think the band needs to be choked a little more – you still want a good amount of band tension when you’re on the box.

Hi Rock, thanks for the response

  1. I agree, I’ve watched the westside videos and thought that my speed was comparable. Just wanted a 2nd opinion in case I was fooling myself. I am running a wave but increasing the band tension each week instead. last week was 225 against lights, this week was against average, and next week will be average+monster minis

  2. The bands are taut (stretched maybe 4-5 inches) at the bottom position. Outside of increased force needed throughout the movement, is there additional benefit to choking the bands further?
