Err… in his time he was kind of wrong. Despite how hard blacks worked, they probably wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without the legislation of the civil rights era.

Good words now, to a point, I suppose.

The federal legislation that was passed in the 60’s - what you are calling the civil rights era - is still the most racist pieces of legislation ever passed.

It has cost more money, and ruined more lives - black lives - than anything in the 100 years prior to its passing.
That’s telling 'em RJ.

Those negros making trouble in the 60s are to blame for the dollar plummeting and the blacks held in jail for drugs. That bitch Rosa Park should have shut her mouth and went with the status quo to keep you happy. After all, we don’t want “White Americans” to get pissed, now do we?

Your stupidity is astounding. Just fucking astounding.

I have to wonder how many teeth you are missing.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?"

Yes, Pat, you act as though black people got that for free. Like they were just given that prosperity. Think about a couple of hundred years of basically free labor that blacks provided.

And let’s not forget that blacks had to fight for the rights that they do have. I am 48 and I can still remember blacks being integrated at my school when I was in the first grade. It was the first year for it in my school. They weren’t handed that…they had to fight for it.

The Constitution certainly provided the potential for equal rights, but a lot of different groups had to struggle and still have to struggle to realize them.

true, but i will always remember what Jim Brown said in an old interview, “every time i speak to a group of young black people about civil rights and equality, i remind them that many many WHITE people fought and DIED for the rights they enjoy today”

What you say is true also. My point is that to read Buchanan’s article you would think that Africans had been brought over here, of their own free will, on the Love Boat and been lovingly welcomed and accorded the same rights as upper-class white males. That, of course, is not the case.

Buchanon is as big an idiot as Wright.

Black people don’t have to be any more thankful than white people to be American.

Who on here is rich ? I mean trully rich, with millions of dollars in their bank account ? I certainly am not. So has being white really helped me ? I think not. I could be black and have as much money as I do now easily. Should I sit around and say "I deserve to give some of my pitty little wages to a black person because of what happened 150 years ago ? Hell No !!

The true irony is probably that people who actually benefited from slavery and whose riches consisted largely of slaves lost it all the moment slaves were freed.

They didn’t lose the land.

Yes, from Samuelson-Nordhaus, the American economics textbook with the question:

With one stroke of the pen, Lincoln destroyed centuries of accumulated wealth. Discuss!

So I threw that in there.

In a discussion, you know.

Don`t worry, once you finish high school you get to read American college textbooks too.

slaves where basically slaves after slavery “ended”

Black people were still forced to either. starve, or work for food and shelter for the plantation owners.

I have said this before, but whites need their own version of Al Sharpton. Someone to just bitch and moan everytime a honkey is offended.

That is the premise for the socialist teaching that the fact that you have to work to sustain yourself is basically systemic violence from those who have towards those who have not and therefore justifies redistribution of wealth at gunpoint.

Physical laws and the general order of the universe however are in a completely different moral category than a gun pointed at your head.

Unions, preachers, politicians…

I think there are enough of those.

Apparently austrians didn’t know that…Err…well certain austrians anyway.
See my answer to Zephead.

You are a closet commie.

Or at least you share important assumptions about how life works that are basically wrongh.

So maybe more of a neocon than a conservative. A national socialist if the term was not so historically loaded.
