Sorry, Phil, but I loved that scene!

Here is some food for thought…

"The guy at the bar is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito. That wasn’t that long ago. Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Phil’s brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a car accident. Absolutely genius!!! David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail.

… and the black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?).

Nikki Leotardo does not appear in the credits. The guy’s real name is Paoli Colandrea and is credited as “Man in Members Only Jacket”. He gave an interview in which he said he had NEVER been on The Sopranos before. He’s not even a professional actor (he owns a pizza shop).

Also, one of the black guys was killed during the botched murder of Tony.

Exactly. None of those characters in the restaurant had ever been on the show before. Someone either has an active imagination or is trying to screw with everybody.

I thought it was classic Sopranos. Chase never resolves anything on this series.

Therefore, the final episode was perfect for that series. they are masters at building people up, ratcheting up the tension, throwing out all sorts of fake leads and then – nothing. People who say well after the first season it sucked. Did you really watch the first few seasons? Because it was always that way.

I jumped off the couch pumping my fist and exclaimed in my best Marv Albert voice … “yessssssssssssss”

Maybe Tony choked on an onion ring.

That ending sucked ! It wasn’t creative , It wasn’t cutting edge , It was just a way to get the sopranos off HBO and on to the big screen to make some real money . Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool !

Phil got whacked. So did Tony.

In the first episode this season he and Bobby were talking about what it was like to get shot out on the lake in the boat. They agreed when it happens you don’t hear it coming and it just fades to black.

The guy who got up to go to the restroom was the shooter. When Meadow came in she looked shocked. Tony was looking at her and didn’t see the bullet that got him…then it faded to black.
Exactly right…the ending was masterful and so was the tension leading up to it…I cant help but feel a little sad that my favorite show for the past 8 years ended, with my boy tony getting whacked…Great ending.

i have been thinking about the many different theories, and just want to suggest this perspective. i have no insider information, and am just basing it off what i felt and observed, so it may be quite wide of the mark.

in one of the commentaries, david chase made it clear that the psychological aspect of the show was really important. and i think the audience was undergoing therapy, to an extent, when viewing and trying to understand the show. perhaps tony’s shrink pulling the rug from underneath him in the 2nd last episode was a mirror of what was about to happen us (who are just a dependent as he was).

anyway, the final scene would be interpreted by each fan individuality according to how far their ‘therapy’ had progressed. i saw it that death was inevitable, but my friends(perhaps of a more sunny disposition) saw the glass as half full, and that he survives.
i think the final song has to be extremely important too, and might give clues… ‘don’t stop believing’ (in the good nature of tony and in us all) ‘the movie never ends it goes on and on …’

having said that, i really did reckon he bought it. so it’s just a theory. i got some great ideas from reading these posts too.
what a show

Meadow was coming to tell Tony he’s being indited. Her BF was working the case that Tony was connected with. She was in a frantic rush to tell him hence her terrible parking. The pans to the men in the diner were feds ready to take him right then and there. Tony knew it was over by the look on Meadow’s face.
that’s a great theory. never thought of that. i was stuck in the whole whacked or not frame

“Man in member’s only jacket.” Wasn’t “Member’s Only” the episode where Tony was shot the first time?

Isn’t he wearing the same shirt he was shot in before?
