Ok, be honest…do I look like a tool?
And if you are not a PL’er??

and you can see my bench isn’t very stable…and I have to take a narrower grip because of the design.
Nice arch! many a PL would kill for that arch.
Hey MiM, good goals! Love your focus - both on diet and training! ![]()
you really think so, Sol??! THANKS!!
I only just recently started experimenting. ![]()
Hey L…thanks!!
Oh and as an aside…screw giving up dairy. Screw it real HARD! I feel like I give up enough as it is when dieting, that ridding my beloved cottage cheese makes me sad.
If I was dieting down to single digit BF% for a bb’ing show, then maybe I would reconsider. I have no reason to suspect any intolerance to it or have reason to believe it is hampering my fat loss goals…and its not like Im eating loads of FATTENING cheeses, milk and butter…we’re talking whey and 1% cottage cheese here.
on that note, cottage cheese with pumpkin spice and a dash of splenda…nom nom nom
That bench looked perfect MiM, seriously. With that arch (which it looked like I could have rolled a bowling ball under!), and how you pressed with it, you can do some damage. For realz!
Nice PL bench!
so my question: what is a non-PL style way of bench pressing for general strength building?
should everyone have a slightly exaggerated arch/shoulders together/tucked elbows, etc…

Exactly right. I feel the same way: I’ve given up so much and willingly, but dairy is a no-go. I just love yogurt and cottage cheese and regular cheese WAY TOO MUCH!! ![]()
<------------------Likes cottage cheese too~

Interesting!

This looks great I think! Except Im new…so I never know whether or not to put my ass on the bench, so I usually do.
you are a natural at the arched PL style.
it is a thing of beauty.
and you will never get this girl to give up dairy. ever. I live for cheese.
I’ve started going wide with my stance and using a small casual arch in training vs. a full PL arch, feels great and is less of a bitch to get into. IMO Scaps should always be retracted and some level elbow tuck should be used for safety at all times.
I watched that Dave Tate thing too! I now really concentrate on putting my traps together without shrugging and arching but keeping my shoulders on the bench. Since I don’t have an arch really, to speak of, this is pretty easy. I wish someone knew how to increase your arch. :\
Bench looks great.
To echo all of the others: I will never give up dairy. I eat it all the time. 'Specially since I’m a veg.
Good luck on all fronts!
Trav- do you do feet on bench too? admittedly, I’ve seen people do that on occasion and thought they were just being lame. Like one of the trainers at my gym has people doing db presses while bicyling there legs, LOL!!
Grny! Not sure…can you do a back bend from the floor? Maybe try cat stretches?
Veggie- some veggies don’t do dairy…do you always make sure to know exactly where the dairy is coming from? I wish I had $$$ to grocery shop solely at Whole paycheck(FOOD) lol I’ve seen FOOD INC…and it even convinced the hubby who grew up on a dairy farm to consider more carefully where our food is coming from. We do the best we can.
I want to do a CSA this year…saving up our money. One of the local ones here even does flowers and homemade soap! ![]()
