Just wondering if anyone has any experience with going from low levels of sodium in there diet to a normal or high amount while keeping calories the same and how that affects there training and progress? I eat pretty clean and very rarely have processed food or go out to eat at reseraunts. I don’t like the taste of salt so I never add salt to my foods so I think it’s safe to say that I get below average levels of sodium and I was just wondering if this could be effecting my progress in the gym.
Proper hydration will improve performance. Sodium will help you retain more water which should help your strength and pumps.
Optimal Sodium levels has many benefits such as:
Sodium increases blood volume. Which will help your body to deliver more oxygen and nutrients to the cells… which repairs the cells and remove waste.
Sodium influences the absorption of nutrients such as amino acids, glucose and water. Thats one of the reasons why I combine dextrose (which is glucose) and seasalt in my preworkout shake.
Sodium increases stamina and endurance
Sodium allows athletes to hold more water in the muscles which increases strength and explosiveness, and it helps improve the integrity of the joints.

I’ve used sodium loading to get bloated for big lifts. I can’t say I feel a huge difference, but I don’t think it hurts either.
