Q: What’s better than a snow day?
A: A snow day with pay.

I teach in the burbs east of Cleveland and we get some real heavy-duty snow.
Ha, nice!

A lot of people don’t think we’d get a lot of snow in these parts (compared to the UP,) but Lake Michigan is one of the craziest things that affects weather in the US. I know that parts West Michigan is in the top percentile of the nation for snowfall that occurs in the winter (not just annually, there’s always mountains out west for that shit.)

But yeah… it’s great snow. It’s wet and really packable, great for sculptures and snowball fights. I don’t have any of my snowgear around, though!

Bad part is is that it’s like 9 degrees outside with a stiffling wind.

Let’s go Viking! Let your beard and hair grow long. In some cultures, your beard gives you power anyway!!

I’ve known and lived that for a long time now.
I’m afraid if I cut my hair, I’ll be reduced to drawing stick figures.

lol

Hmm. I may change my screen name to Little Sampson.

Yessir. I can’t deal with hair touching my ears so long hair is out of the question, but I’ve definitely been letting my winter/Viking beard grow for the last month or so in preparation of the weather.

In Maine we had 5-6" of snow yesterday. Kids had a snow day from school. I shovelled said snow, then the following ice storm that mashed with said snow.

It’s just begun and will continue for another 4.5 months or so (into April).

See my thread re: “Moving to Georgia”

I’m going to Western Michigan. I didn’t know that school was canceled until I got there and all the doors were locked.

Yeah, we got fucking dumped on last night. Now we have a blizzard warning until tomorrow. They’re telling people to stay inside and not go anywhere. Maybe they’ll cancel class tomorrow too.

Unfortunately, we were supposed to get our study guides for the finals today.

Nothing to do today but study for finals, or surf the intertubez…
Yeah I’m in the Dirty 'Zoo with Skaz. Took me 24 minutes to get from my place downtown to Oshtemo this morning going to the gym. Usually takes me under 10.

And keep in mind, we get snow ALL the time. A lot of it. WMU is pretty infamous around these parts for never closing down campus. Woke up this morning at 7 to get ready for my 8 o’clock, and decided to check to see if school was closed, and BOOM! Right back to bed. :)
Ohhh westsiders, I heard you guys got snow too, but I didn’t think enough to close school. I know that up north they’re closed because of weather.

I had a internship that sent me to Kalamazoo for a week and there was such a bad blizzard going on. Could see probably 4 cars ahead of you, tops. On top of that 94, had about 4+ inches of legitimate/non-plowed snow. It was the first time I had seen so much snow on a major freeway. That was two winters ago though…

SWAT or BAC? I use to live about 15-20 minutes west of Oshtemo and the lake effect snow was a lot worse than K-zoo.

We got pwned yesterday by the snow too, 14 inches of that shit but no class! Had to dig my car out twice because of the stupid snow plows

What the hell is a snow day? They keep schools closed just because there’s a bit of snow, or is it just the first snowfall? If so, then we have something similar here in Norway - we get a day off when the sun comes back after winter.

Wish we had snow days. Would be really pointless, but i don’t mind an extra day off.

when this happens (and it does quite a lot), it just means you have to get up an hour early to dig out your car and shovel your driveway

Wow. It’s only December 10th and my university already has a snowday. Excellent. This is going to be a good winter.

Pros

 • No class (duh)
 • Snowboarding Later
 • Not pressured to fit my workout into a timely schedule
 • Ordering a pizza for my cheat day because…
 • I just got a new 46" LCD 1080p and PS3 to play on and plan on doing that for quite some time.

Cons

 • It’s fucking cold outside
 • I have to drive to the gym which will double my normal travel time
 • I don’t have any boots for this weather yet. Wet shoes ahoy.
 • Next week IS exam week, so this should be a sign to start studying instead of playing videogames for 7 hours.

Now let’s go… DO NOTHING!

(My apologies to folks in which this post of awesomeness is non-applicable. And yes, that snowcock was built by me and some friends. It was epic. Some drunk bitch knocked it over that same night we built it, too. What a shame.)
My two young sisters go to orange. HH could be teaching my sisters?!?!?!

Wish I could have a snow day… or snow, or cold weather. It was 75 degrees in SC yesterday.

It’s pretty sweet looking outside when it’s all snowy and you’re just like… yeahhh, I’m gonna go play some video games. Seriously, all I did today was watch AMC movies and play Dragon Age. Shweet.

dude, the semester is over, who cares? like, this has to be one of your last classes. who goes to the last class of the semester? I’ve been on my vacation since thanksgiving, i’m going to exams next week then i’m out.

what’s your program? I can probably get away with it because I’m a psych undergrad, that is male.
That sounds like those assholes at OU. They get break from thanksgiving to Jan 4-5.

You got out for break then have to go back for exams?
no, not officially. I just don’t go. lol I know everything there is to know about the

psych of women
childhood psych
psychobiology
stats of psych

so a little refresher session this Saturday will be all I need. I’ve been hitting doubles in the gym for the time since break. I really think its more productive than listening to a prof tell you what is already on a poweroint/youtube/book.

I’m glad you are enjoying the ease of your bullshit degree. Have fun getting a job in the future. Engineering FTW
you mean like becoming a psychologist? as in DOCTOR? like med school in the future? or are you assuming me only getting a four year? which leads to business, school systems, hospitals

and you totally know my goals right? I’m definitely not going to specify my training to injured athletes who can’t compete anymore.

yea, you know what’s up don’t you?
I apologize (sp?) it’s been a stressfull semester, too many lab courses plus math…

I hear ya, stumpy

Schools in the south (High schools, i dunno about college yet) close for even the though of snow.
