Conventional pulls
5/138
3/157
1+/176 . . . . I only did 4. Disappointing but not surprising. I do not like repping this lift. I do not like this lift period.
5/10/130 BBB from deficit
Did you get the NEW 5/3/1? Jim talks about Joker Sets that you add in which are basically 100+% of your Training Max which gets you back to maximal lifting within the 5/3/1 template.
Snap= congrats on the 25 years and going strong and on the sons making varsity. He must be quit a gifted athlete(wonder where he gets that). Good to see you have recovered and are building again.
Program is looking good KP. Try the mixed 5/3/1 days. Would be interesting to see what others think.
I really like it because each week I get a day of 1’s, and I usually will shoot for a PR on that day if I’m feeling it. Then one day of deload which is kind of a goof off day. I turns 4 day workout weeks to 3 days with 1 screw around deload day.

Glad to hear.
Started Crossfit this past week. I kid you not. Just needed a change and have been oh so woefully lacking in conditioning. Haven’t thought of myself as a well-rounded athlete for awhile. So I thought I’d try it for a month. Maybe find a way to blend it with my PLing training? Anyways, it’s kicking my ass. Yesterday included 30 pull-ups. I did them strict because I have no interest in “kipping” them, which sounds like a good way to get a slap tear or otherwise trash something. Anyway, it was very hard for me. Even broken up into sets.
Initial thoughts are that it is a great workout. But not a good one for beginners who aren’t well acquainted with the power lifts and Oly lifts. So far, I finish last in the timed WOD, which is okay. I am not into speed lifting. And I am not in great cardio shape, truth be told. So I have to rest more than the average Crossfitter at this point. Upon leaving my first session, trainer said “Well, I can see you are a purist.” Referring to my form, I suppose.
In powerlifting news, I reffed the state high school meet a few weekends ago. I really enjoyed sitting on the platform. May pursue USAPL certification. We shall see.
I am enjoying following everyone’s progress. Stay strong!
I was a national judge in the ADFPA (I think I did a USAPL meet when the ADFPA became so named, can’t remember). Great way to give back and a total blast to be honest. I’d be giving young lifters sage advice, like catching them BEFORE they hit the platform with crotch to ankle knee wraps me like “just roll the tops down and bottoms up, you got 30 seconds, its okay”. I got to pretend that I was a nice guy and no one noticed my thumb always hovering over the RED light switch.
I think I still have my blue blazer.
Do it. And call all squats deep where they belong.
I can’t say I blame you for trying crossfit. We all shit on it but it looks like fun and we’ve had a bunch of good lifters come out of it. Keep on doing it. Sometimes a change is as good as a rest and shakes things up a bit.
